May 10, 20178 yr Since there's unlikely to be any Jose Quintana trade talk for at least another month, here's a place to discuss those prospects or current major leaguers who MIGHT have been traded for Q but weren't...threw out a few names to get the discussion started about position players. Austin Meadows Josh Bell Gleyber Torres Cody Bellinger Rafael Devers Kyle Tucker Anthony Benintendi Dansby Swanson Aaron Judge (although realistically, he wasn't on many lists) Alex Bregman Michael Conforto Blackmon/Dickerson Will Myers Joey Gallo Kolten Wong Ender Inciarte Rougned Odor Nomar Mazara Carlos Gonzalez Alex Gordon
May 10, 20178 yr Author Well, I also meant the "bullets missed," like signing Gordon or trading for Carlos Gonzalez.
May 10, 20178 yr This thread makes no sense, what the f*** do half of those players have to do with Quintana? And a bunch of the other ones were certaintly not available for him. All I see is a token caulfield random name list.
May 10, 20178 yr Here are some guys we could have had if only the Dumb Sox had drafted and traded better! Mike Trout Steve Trout Mickey Mantle Mickey Mouse Babe Roof The dog from Frasier

May 10, 20178 yr Yeah this thread is pointless. What do Gonzalez and Gordon have to do with Quintana not being traded? Lol Edited May 10, 20178 yr by soxfan2014
May 10, 20178 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 10, 2017 -> 12:29 AM) Will Myers If Wil Myers was offered for Q straight up and Hahn didn't take that deal, he shoulda been fired a long time ago.
May 10, 20178 yr Author Since everyone in this thread is so bored, you can analyze on your own how fast Luis Robert is...and hopefully his name won't be added to the list in the next month. Edited May 10, 20178 yr by caulfield12
May 10, 20178 yr Geez, he might have added a few irrelevant names, but I don't think there's anything pointless with looking at the progress of a few prospects we wanted (or didn't want) for Q. Austin Meadows, for starters, has a slash of .215/.274/.563 at AAA. That gives him a .668 career OPS at that level. Rafael Devers, who probably wasn't seriously on the table, is at .312/.366/.925 at AA. 6 homers, .310 BABIP. Aaron Judge is absurd, so far. 13 bombs in 29 games. 1.173 OPS. Clint Frazier is at .255/.352/.832 at AAA. Tyler Glasnow is walking the world (19 BB in 27 IP) and giving up a ton of hits for the Pirates. But he's striking out just over a batter an inning. Mitch Keller is stellar at A+. 5 BB in 34.1 IP. Kyle Tucker is at .303/.386/1.046 with 10 steals at A+. Francis Martes has thrown 16 IP at AAA, striking out 17 and walking 15.

On the Pittsburgh side of things, Kevin Newman isn't exactly setting the world on fire either.
May 10, 20178 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) On the Pittsburgh side of things, Kevin Newman isn't exactly setting the world on fire either. .702 OPS at AA as a 23 year old. Forgettable and unpromising. Other than Tucker, I don't think there's anyone we had a legitimate shot at with Q that I'm feeling all that sad about. And Tucker would have likely been paired with Martes, who I was high on but whom has had atrocious control thus far. Forest Whitley has struck out 19 in 10 IP at A ball as a 19 year old, which is cool but a small sample size. Ramon Laureano has been putrid.
May 10, 20178 yr Robles is also tearing it up in A+. Acuna (braves, who are aggressive) just moved him up to AA after an .800 OPS in A+. He hit a HR in his first game in AA.
May 10, 20178 yr Also, Carter Kieboom having a breakout year worth watching, while Gleyber Torres after a poor start has turned it on and is now near .800 ops in AA with a .375 OBP. We largely would have done well with all except pirates deals, but I don't think Meadows slashline is that bad in AAA.
May 10, 20178 yr Author Swanson's season so far is making Tim Anderson look almost decent in comparison. That one is an enigma.
May 10, 20178 yr Even by Cauflield standards this is bad. I did make it through 3 posts though. Where's my reward?
May 10, 20178 yr Author Taylor, you're free to make up your own thread. That's generally how websites work. 70-80% of threads won't go anywhere, and maybe 20-30% will be worthwhile. And the conversation finally shifted to my original purpose, which I certainly could have accomplished without making a list of players and just written a generic sentence or two. But hot takes are more fun, right? I did that with Giolito this week in the minor league thread, sometimes there needs to be a devil's advocate when everything gets a little too one-sided around here.
