Actually, going to change my pitcher to Blake Hickman, just because I like him and want him to get his career back on track.

My guess: Avi is hero with a 3 run bomb.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 09:33 AM) Conflicting facts on both sides of the argument. At the end of the day, 100 bucks extra a month isnt death, but I would prefer taxes dont continue to increase. Their latest reassessment was bulls***. It is death when you renew every 30 year bond and call for new 30 year bonds every 5 years, and literally every taxing body keeps coming back every 5 years for 4% operating increases saying they are just trying to keep status quo or else all services will cease. I won't be upset if it passes, D97 isn't the main driver of Oak Park's problems, the Park District and High School are, but I also don't think all hell will break loose if it fails. They can do art every other week for a year while they come back in the fall for another referendum.

http://awfulannouncing.com/espn/many-fans-...inals-cubs.html Though I love analytics in baseball I've been somewhat skeptical of how it is used in broadcasts. It isn't a particularly verbal language, I think part of the reason WAR took off was it was easy to say. But it has been interesting to see the stats that have been pulled out and highlighted. The hit velocity stuff I really like, same with trajectory. But another is win probability. For some reason they think it's very interesting to show who is most likely to win throughout the game. I'm not sure I ever find win probability interesting. There are some cool analysis pieces showing how dramatically a game swung in one play and ranking it HISTORICALLY, but that's it for me. Probabilities are interesting when they are helping inform how you should act. Or elections over a long period of time, they help explain the "race". But in a game? A 2-hour game, where it quite obviously will swing? Boring. It's stupid. It isn't informative. It isn't interesting. Down with win probability.

Overall it's just communication. How many people were like "hey Sox are you really going to do this?" On twitter as their account was just "parking lots are filling up for opening day!". Nothing on the delay, no real insight into what their plan was. It was like sitting in the passenger seat on a road trip with someone who doesn't know how where they are going but insists they have been there before. Except you are also soaking wet and paying 10 a beer. -

QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 08:13 AM) The only thing I am not sure I buy is that it was a money grab. If it was would they be willing to exchange all tickets for future dates in probably the only sell out of the season? Also they are giving free parking today. Arent those usually like $20 bucks a pop? Yeah I am sure they made some money yesterday but not enough to be willing to risk a bad PR move. It seems like they got caught in between, like usual, and were unsure of how to approach this until it was too late after not making a decision. But they already got that ticket revenue. They are just letting fans attend a game they otherwise would not for free, which still gets them some concessions. It was totally a money grab. "Well we are paying for these people to work so may as well get what we can." -

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 08:03 PM) Yet you wanted them to postpone the game this morning, and reschedule for tomorrow, even tho you still wouldn't have been able to go to the make up tomorrow? Me thinks you would have been mad no matter what happened. Well I'm sure for some people, like me, had they postponed early this morning I could have switched up my half day to make the game. Instead I took a half day to drink a beer in a crowded hallway while soaking wet and not watch a baseballl game. Great experience. But hey I have a voucher! Yayyy -

I'm so mad I started breaking my rule about never going to baseball in April last few years. Not only is the weather s***, but the whole stadium from security to vendors have no idea what's going on. Even if you get a half decent day you'll be in line for four innings. I'm done with opening day. This was an awful experience. Honestly felt used by the end of it. -

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 01:24 PM) They should have either postponed this game yesterday night/this morning or try their hardest to get it in today. Can't do the middle. I think their mindset is a lot of people take off and schedule around opening day so they try to get it in. And I get it. But the last thing you want is to do all this and then paly 3 innings and have to play to an empty stadium tomorrow. I get both sides, but the one I'm on is I could have taken a half day tomorrow if they decided earlier to postpone today and work the rest of the day. Now I'm definitely taking a halfday, and I'll be pretty annoyed if I get there and it's just rain delay after rain delay. -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 01:08 PM) I think the tweet to the FBI is better. Its almost as if he doesnt understand that the FBI reports to people he appointed. Ha I really did LOL when I saw that @fbi

QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 10:37 AM) This weekends games should be nice to go to. Upper 60's and lower 70's by Sunday. Nice alternative to get my start of the season fix in since I cant get out of work today. I did that last year and it always seems to pay off weatherwise. I don't have the data, but if sox always played first week in warm weather cities and played day games next week, it would take away a lot of the suck in april. It's still cold at night through april but nothing like this first week. -

Garcia had a hilarious moment in RF on Saturday where he tracked a foul ball and just straight up missed it, it hit off his glove and went fair. Luckly called foul correctly. -
I think pitching wise I'd go Bummer or Frye as both seemed to get some nice opportunities. I honestly just hope we have a breakout offensive product. I expect Fisher/Call to hit well until they are tested in Birmingham before I get too excited about them as big league pieces. But would probably be most excited if Josue Guerrero has a great first stateside debut while staying healthy, or one of the position player LatAm signings does well.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) Tickets are as low as $6 currently...really tempted to go. Opening day/home opener is always fun (except for 2015). If you can get off work you should do it. -

Alright, I've passed wanting to see game canceled. Grabbed cheap stadium club passes last week and glad I did. Nice refuge for my wife and kid if its unbearable. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 12:10 AM) With Knox and Porter and some of the decent players Mizzou has now, I'd expect MU to make the tournament next year. No reason Cuonzo can't get that team in the tourney. I haven't checked MU's noncon schedule. Porter and Knox are 2/5s of a starting lineup. Pretty impressive start for Cuonzo, if MU gets Knox. Knox seems like a long shot, have you heard more? -
QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 08:05 PM) Greg Walker ruin him too? Funny but Greg Walker is I guess pretty influential in this uppercut swing plane that's taken over with Donaldson and JD Martinez Edit: not with those players but that philosophy that is spreading

Heywards swing doesn't look fixed, if anything it looks worse

I hope chisoxfn saw that ridiculous Zipser block just now. Was awesome.
-
I should watch more Goldschmidt. Probably the team I see least just ahead of padres.
-
I was kinda embarrassed reading it thinking "ugh this is all the same stuff I've heard before" and realizing that's only true for me because I've listened to/read like every Hahn interview this offseason. His Garfein interview was basically this article.

People say canceled because in real life people use delayed and postponed more interchangeably, so they say canceled to let them know the game ain't happening that day. To the people communicating it isn't confusing at all so I'm gonna side with them.
