Naw it's so vain. "We'll only play our full set if you cheer really hard!" It's like rushing the field when u of I beats North texas in football. Some shows deserve it but the vast majority it's just institutionalizing it to the point it's lost all it's fun. Make encore's great again!
  2. How many starts are left there, 2?

I have no problem with a long show from Pearl Jam. People pay a lot of money for those shows, it's a big event. But when you're just at a club in february for some small band and they leave their guitars out and lights low and make you wait 10 more minute sbefore playing some bsides it's just like, No. Japandroids has a nice profanity-laced tirade against encores, but, they are canadian, so may not count.

QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 03:41 PM) Have you ever participated in yelling ENCORE...ENCORE....ENCORE...and have them come out after your repeated requests? Didnt think so, you havent f***ing lived, bmags. hell yes I did. Did it at my first concert which was Bonnie Raitt

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 03:11 PM) f*** the British, encores are a blast if done right They are bad when they are an obligation, which they often are. I've seen very few legitimate encores in my life.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 01:42 PM) Not saying that sometimes a longer show can't be good, probably when it's spontaneous it works better. Most really long shows feel forced, maybe because of ticket prices or something like that. I saw Bruce Springsteen play once, it was probably at Wrigley and he played for like 4 hours. Now it was a good show, but by the end I was done with it. I mostly just despise encore's. It's nice when British bands come to visit and upfront are like "we don't do encores, we play our show". Younger bands seem to be following that.
  8. QUOTE (captain54 @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) who's Larry? A writer on their site that has written several posts with critiques toward Reinsdorf.
  9. He is 4th in ERA, and above him is Duffy/Fulmer. While fulmer is fantastic, he has not pitched for that many innings this year (and may start to fatigue). Hamels has star power above him though, and a winning team. Here's to Q tortoise-hare'ing the race. Top 5 era, top 5 whip.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 12:37 PM) Holy s***, that is a long show. I feel like some concerts are turning into Grateful Dead like shows. Bands should rock for about an hour and half and leave you wanting more. I've seen punk bands play 20 minute sets and they were probably the best shows I ever saw. I am generally in favor of shorter shows, but one of my favorite shows was wilco playing a 4 hour show in columbia missouri outdoors on 8th avenue. No one had any desire to leave and they just kept coming back out to play, it was awesome. That was probably 2005 so they went through a lot of fun stuff.
  11. I actually wasn't that big a fan of the podcast. I agree that Hahn gets a ridiculous pass considering this offseason and Shields, but the "I get it , you blame Jerry for not opening up his wallet" is so far off, especially considering the on the nose critiques from Larry
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 12:39 PM) LOL which republican senator did that with Terry Schiavo, Bill fritz? Yeah. At least it went over poorly enough that people stopped. Although I feel like Rand Paul pulled an armchair diagnosis once.
  13. We have her health records. She's working nonstop and hasn't called off any meetings at age 70whatever. Although it would be nice if my doc would allow me to send videos to him to diagnose me instead of making me go all the way down to his office.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 11:27 AM) Obviously Chris Sale has better stuff, but I've been beginning to wonder whether or not Q is the better pitcher. At least post-ASG i've been much more confident with Q on the mound Q seems to have figured out innings 5-7 now, and how to get out of those jams. Agree in the confidence in him now.
  15. QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) I sort of know what you're saying, but I feel like they had to walk a very fine line. You start getting into 10 episode territory, things may start to drag. It's a tough thing to figure out what that perfect amount is. The show really felt like a long movie, so I think the length was probably right. I actually thought the pacing was the most amazing part of the show.

It looked like all of Canada showed up for the Tragically Hip's final show
  17. If there is anything worse than the progressive Flo poetry ads on radio I haven't heard it.
  18. Night Of gets into fun procedural stuff but man that kiss scene was ridiculous.
  19. Didn't see the game. Unshocking to see Q dominate
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 12:55 PM) They say Floyd does an excellent job working through bodies / contact (it is why they say he is going to be so good in the ground game). He definitely has things to learn though, technique wise, and being strong would help, but one of the keys is just how fast his he is. Part of me thinks a few sacks will come this year where a RT thinks they pushed him past the QB and Floyd will be fast enough to come back around before the tackle realizes
  21. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) Woah s***. Bullard had a lil Tommie Harris in him there. The whole series he was first to engage. Totally destroyed their snap counts. Sometimes they neutralized him with quick throws but as he gets stronger he's going to cause some major pain to offenses.
  22. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 12:36 PM) I missed this play somehow. Floyd is going to look terrible whenever anyone gets a body on him though, as expected I guess. But when you don't he is going to blow some QB's the hell up. Does this work https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-footb...-team-nfl-sack/ I know it says it's not secure but that's a real blog, I think they screwed up their wpengine cert. EdiT: here it is sans blog post: https://t.co/Uj1BK4OD6E
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 11:10 AM) No, Yglesias and others have been poking fun at the 'economic anxiety' angle some pundits have been using to try to explain Trump's popularity among his supporters when the anecdotal and statistical evidence both point to racial resentment as the primary motivating factor. No I got that, I don't understand the citizen book with the muslim thing.
