QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 09:12 AM) No. I actually am totally against publicly funded stadiums. I'm just showing that this deal is a positive for taxpayers of IL. That is what really matters. The state will get more money. I don't know if Guaranteed Rate is a good company or not, I would imagine they were vetted, but we can find lawsuits and huge fines with any large company. If JP Morgan Chase bought the rights would anyone complain? They have been fined billions of dollars. You are right, that was just using your post to jump off of. Sorry.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 09:10 AM) This makes sense. Dick is one of the only ones making sense in here. They took the best deal they could find for the naming rights. The name isn't ideal but it doesn't really matter. If the team can get better and find a way to win, nobody will care about the name of the stadium. I said yesterday that they can call it Turd Sandwich Field if the team gets better for all I care. Those of you that are adults and still have Cubs/Sox arguments with dips***s, well I can't help you there. This thread is awful. No one will eventually care about it. BUt for the record, at least with the naming rights to US Cellular the sox marketed the change letting everyone know of specific stadium improvements we would see and updated fans on how those changes would be coming. This change, happening this year, a year where sox fans would love to talk about a competitive baseball team, but in the perpetual absence of one, would at least like to not be forced to talk about a 12 year old taking down the clubhouse, a starting pitcher cutting up jerseys in tantrum, the worst starting pitcher stretch in history, and now naming our stadium the equivelant of being put in the town stocks to have tomatoes thrown at us. Not much to ask. Just the basic competence the majority of other franchises are capable of.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 09:01 AM) ISFA Chairman Manny Sanchez said that move could save the stadium authority as much as $25 million in facility upgrades over the course of the final years of the Sox's lease. "That's a huge piece of this from an ISFA perspective," Sanchez said. "This is something that is a really, really serendipitous godsend that we have encountered." Revenue and savings late during the next decade will be critical for ISFA, which uses hotel tax revenue and annual city and state subsidies to pay off the debt from the renovation of Soldier Field and the construction and maintenance of the Sox's park. That annual debt obligation will steadily balloon from $38.5 million for the year ending June 30, 2017 to $87 million in 2032. This post appears to aim that we should be thanking Jerry for saving the state for paying for his f'ing stadium's construction and maintenance by auctioning off the franchises dignity to a bunch of wrigleyville lending bros. Thanks Jerry.

QUOTE (Scoots @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 07:55 PM) Anyone remember that game Shields pitched against Detroit where he gave up like 7 or 8 runs, then the Sox came back to win it? I was at that game, one of the best I've been to. So, I do have Shields to thank for that. Yeah. That was nice

Maximus Aurelius Shields

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 07:43 PM) He is not on baseball reference. Are you making him up? Let's not take away Shields title he rightfully earned. Ole Mopeface wasn't in B/R? Yeah I made him up. Good ole mopeface

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 07:41 PM) His velocity isn't even bad. To me his changeup sucks now, and that was always his best pitch He also just seems to have no idea where his pitches will end up. They are guaranteed to end up as a ball or in the stands as a souvenir which will rate as a great day for a lucky fan

Guess you don't remember Mopeface Jones

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 07:11 PM) Winning this series handily would make it nearly impossible for the White Sox to wind up with a protected pick (if there is such a thing next year after CBA negotiations). Ergo, Shields having a strong start slightly hurts the White Sox, long term, if you consider them to be out of the race this year. 1 run, 7.1 innings. Followed by an implosion next time out just to make it clear. Always bet on black unless James shields is wearing black then bet on red

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 05:07 PM) "Yo, let's hit up The Rate tonight for the Sox game..." Kinda has a ring to it? No? No one will say that because no one is going to go

Naming rights are stupid. Only a terrible company would think it's a good marketing gimmick. Of course you'll get a terrible company. That the ownership decides to s*** all over the fans after a season of awful play and news is typical.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 12:55 PM) Someone will claim him. Bears hold the 11th spot in the waiver wire Oh, right. I kind of thought "waived" him meant release him. Maybe we can trade for him.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) Second wild card is at 69-56. Have to think we have underestimated how much getting so little out of the DH spot has killed this team last 2 years. Morneau is in and all the sudden its "oh this is passable". But on a team already struggling to get offense out of their top positions, you can't also have DH be in your bottom 3 of offensive outputs.

please please please sign him.

That was excellent. Super pumped after reading that.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 08:57 AM) Even with the injuries and some scary line ups out there, the offense has looked better recently. Especially with Abreu starting to look like Abreu, it hasn't been so bad. It is also worth noting for Rodon since the calendar turned to August he is... 2-0 |24.2 IP| 5R| 4ER| 1.46 ERA| 19H |20K| 5 BB| 0.972 WHIP I saw on twitter he threw 21 changeups last night. You can tell he is learning. Still gets caught up in quite a few 10 pitch at bats that he can't seem to find his out pitch. Reminds me a bit of 2002/3 Jon Garland watching him pitch.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 08:39 AM) Well he's doing sim games right now. I'd guess he throws in Fall Instructs. Winter ball I'm not sure, but we can ask him. Feels like that injury couldn't happened at a worse part of the season. Basically lost two years to it.
-
Do we think Blake Hickman will try out Winter ball or the sox will just start him up next year?
-
In MY rule book, Anderson was 2-3 with a sacrifice groundout.
