Soooooo that doesn't look like it was good

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) There were a ton of naysayers on the board when I first brought up Morneau as an option. Glad he is fulfilling my expectations and doing better than others thought he was capable. I was a naysayer. I was wrong. Dude is gonna have an Edgar Martinez career I feel like now.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 06:28 PM) I don't know why people keep mentioning the name Mark Cuban. Even if you want to make the leap of faith that this is true, the last person on earth that JR would sell to is Mark Cuban. He hates the guy. All you have to do is Google it. The information is out there. Hell there might be a better chance of them selling to Donald Trump. I'm so sorry haha

The ole stadium discussion eh
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 04:43 PM) A couple things. JR does not like Cuban and is one reason Cuban doesn't own a team now. If he sold to him he would look ridiculous to the other owners so ridiculous they would probably block the sale, and even if he did sell to him since he s would own the Bulls he would be business partner's with him. That isn't going to happen. Finally, when is the last time Bernstein had a scoop no other reporter had?I would guess never so it is all mute anyway. Well yes but the only reason I brought up Cuban was a counter to any outside group being bad news. And for the last part, well, that's most things we discuss.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 04:45 PM) Obama??? Ha uh...*scratches chin* ahhh

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 04:30 PM) If someone has the financial ability to bankroll a sports franchise and that money is clean, isn't that all matters? And I think he can be an owner of a team he just can't have a controlling interest. Because he was allowed to bid on that Rangers when they were in bankruptcy court, where he was partnered with Jim Crane. Maybe Cuban isn't enough of an old white man and maybe that scares the MLB owners. f***, Jeffery Loria can own a team but not Mark Cuban. SHouldn't, but they don't want a lot of outspoken owners when times like labor disputes come up. The fact that DOnald Sterling got less grief than Cuban did during his tenure tells you all you need to know about owner groups.

he absolutely is a sox fan. He has not, however, broken much sox news as far as I can remember.
-
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 03:54 PM) Bernstein is a cub fan, a sox hater, and a sarcastic buffoon trying to appease his listening audience. If the Sox were for sale, he would have as many sources for that as you or I would. I heard a rumor that the there has been a lot of increased crime around Wrigley Field...A lot f burglars and a scattering of rapists. Nice hood.. https://www.yahoo.com/news/rising-crime-wri...-032459601.html Can't think of a more unnecessary 2nd paragraph than yours. What does that have to do with anything in this thread?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 04:01 PM) I gotcha Thanks!

QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 03:51 PM) OMG White! Unbelievable! You will have to deal with not knowing whether White just snapped a body part or made an amazing play. LOL Ha, I kind of love that though. I learned of that one Crede 3 run home run from Kyyle or someone just writing "omg it worked" and then all of the "rally crede!"s for 500 posts

Going to edit title to indicate how unsubstantiated this is. edit: crap, I don't have those powers.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 03:41 PM) Didn't Cuban try to bid on the Cubs and immediately get shot down by the MLB owners? Yes. I was just saying that not all out of town ownership groups would scare me.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 03:37 PM) Well that IS two different sports. Obviously it would be awesome to have an owner like him or anyone that would want to pump money into the team, however I dont think that market exists. I still don't buy it. The sox are going to be bought (in this fantasy world where they sell) by a group of billionaires and millionaires that want to own a baseball team. Won't have anything to do with how profitable they think it could be. Chicago has a lot of potential buyers, and, could also be led by a famous head. Oh god...what if Jordan buys the white sox.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 03:30 PM) He's smart enough to know not to compete against the Cubs in this town. Although the Sox would be a bargain right now, the Cubs are going to be THE story in this town for the next decade while they actually win. See, I don't buy this. Professional teams don't go on sale that often. This is why you see things like Ballmer by the Clips. Sure, he'd prefer Seattle, but he wanted an NBA team. If a baseball team opens up, and cuban actually wants a baseball team? He'll call. It doesn't matter if we won't be biggest draw, the Mavs weren't either. Now, is this incredibly unlikely, of course. But, who cares it's interesting.

I have to say, I don't think any new era owners are going to have issues on generating money. If they move it's because they want their team in a city they want to be in. Teams aren't bought to make money now, they are a hobby horse for incredibly rich people.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 03:27 PM) Yeah its all puppy dogs and candy canes until the bidder is from out of town Unless it's Cuban. (mark)
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 03:24 PM) Either way, I am not putting a whole of faith into anything he talks about until a legitimate news source puts some mustard on this. Bernstein has less information to offer than even a Bruce Levine. I totally agree, but I have never heard any inkling that JR would ever sell so I wanted to check it out.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 03:20 PM) Link to the tweet? I know I'm bad with this, I use phone for twitter because tweetbot keeps all of the terrible new twitter desktop features out of the way, here it is: <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8">

Cool. Still don't rampant fits.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) They are talking about it. Missed Dan's initial comments on it though Thanks, I wonder if it's "rumors" or " i have a source"

I feel like if this was a stronger story Bernstein would have tweeted it out.
-
WSD just tweeted that Bernstein is saying that the sox ownership is pursuing a sale of the team?

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 02:33 PM) Give me Carlos Gomez, resign Morneau, and trade for Derek Norris. Add a few solid bullpen arms and go to battle. If they suck again next year, blow the whole thing up. If these are their only upgrades I don't feel confident. Despite the contract being absurd, if we actually "are in" the Encarnacion sweepstakes I will have a hard time resisting. One of my favorite baseball players in the league.

Incredible. Every distance. Seemed like the only event she didn't destroy her competition was in the 4x100 relay
