2016 Democratic Thread
It's interesting. This will certainly regress, but usually after a convention where all time is consumed by one party, the next week the other candidate is like "OKAY BUT ME AGAIN" and people are like "Oh right, him/her, I like him/her" But with Trump it was like "Oh right, him..."

It's that time of year again...2016 edition
Yeah, at this point the main point would be bigger bonus pool, OTOH the sox have not shown a desire to get a lower pool pick at their first to use later, so I'm not sure it even matters with this team anymore.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 01:48 AM) When are we going to hold our government officials accountable? They all are out of control. And our candidates? One is a pathological liar and the other is certifiably mad. And both are over 70. Where's the young blood, the new ideas? I want Jesse Ventura as a write in. I'll probably actually write him in. Why do you think this is remotely corrupt. These are the types of powers we've fallen back on giving to the exec branch/CIA (more often). We did in fact illegally enter their water space. It was resolved quickly and without escalation by a money transfer. That's...that's pretty much the best case scenario with an unfriendly regime.

**Gary Johnson 2016 election thread**
Question: do we think Gary Johnson actually believes in switching to the gold standard or that is just the niche the libertarians have been able to corner so he has to deal with it?

2016 Republican Thread
To be fair, had Trump privately been mad with the Khans and not went into a public fued, that would be the reaction of someone with a normal temperament. When Cindy Sheehan? kept trying to get a meeting with Bush and went crazier and crazier, he didn't go into a public feud with her.

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/08/mela...n-donald-226648 "Lock her up! Lock her up! Lock her up!" Just kidding! I worked on a tourist visa in Brazil under the table. Of course, when I did that, I didn't then marry someone who worked to punish all other illegal immigrants. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 12:05 PM) Sounds like the reshoots to make the movie "more fun" were true and might be part of the problem. Some rumors around Star Wars: Rogue having reshoots because the movie was too dark and they wanted to lighten it up. Hope that's not the case. Seems to be the problem is you end up with the movie having two different tones that make it seem like a mess. Just pick one or the other. Darker tone or more upbeat. FWIW, re: Rogue One, after that came out it was heavily disputed. It may come back out that report was true, but it was said those re-shoots were scheduled and did not add new material.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 11:14 AM) As a hard cut-off though? If I were making 125.01K household income, I'd be begging my bosses for a paycut for at least those four years. No. Cut-off is least of worries. It's easy to find phase out points.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) Plus, depending on the model, it's going to be a challenge to make it work equally across all 50 states. Directional North Dakota U is a heck of a lot cheaper than PSU, so how do you handle that sort of discrepancy? The little talk I've heard of the plan is something like "free tuition for households making up to $125k." I wonder if that proposal is a hard cut-off at $125k or if it'd phase out. I'm assuming it'd phase out, but that'd still be interesting to see. Well we are capable of doing that with hospitals. I actually don't think it will be that hard but will be fairly unforgiving so I'm sure there will be grumblings from higher ed. 125k is a nice cut off, will be good to see a gov't program that cuts across wide swath. Easier to get more cross aisle buy in.

2016-2017 NFL Thread
Cutler has earned my respect. Few things bug me more than going to the media to talk trash. It annoys me with Jimmy Butler, it annoys me here. Cutler hasn't been good but his first 5 years he had ridiculous offensive coordinators and a GM who seemed to actively undermine him with the offensive line play and receivers.

Re: college tuition. Looks like that proposal could go two ways. Handling things like Fannie Mae/Mac or handle things like Medicaid. I like the idea of wielding around this group of students like a bargaining chip to prevent costs rising too high. I really would like a bipartisan coalition though with this. Free tuition is going to require iteration on seeing the unknown effects and handling them (as does a major bill like health care), and that will be difficult to do if one party is just going to openly sabotage it.
