French Newspaper Attack
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 10:58 AM) Im not sad these guys are dead, but I wish they would have spent the rest of their existence in tiny cells unable to see the sky. They got what they wanted, what they did will be celebrated among the extremists. Yeah, I really hope they get the ones in the warehouse alive. Also, looks like 4 hostages were killed, so this was not a success.

Very proud of Mizzou for winning their first conference game. The team has been steadily improving, and you can see in 2 years they'll be stacked, but man, much tougher slog of a season than I expected.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) Are you saying that every media business should be required to print these cartoons? I took it as it is silly to place blame on Charlie Hebdu staff for "provoking" these attacks, as seen by the later attacks. These aren't logically motivated attacks, they are hitting "western" symbols, so you can't change your behavior as they will just find something else to fight about.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 10:26 AM) Right its not hard to use the media when they all want to be first with any information true or not. Hub can be a curmudgeon, but man was he right about the Bears last few years. He had been calling out how much a rebuild effort was necessary for 3 years now. And he's right that, we basically just have to hope he gets it right. We have no idea how he is going to build this out yet, or whether it will work.

We should probably stop criticizing the guy for a fake tweet he never said.

Bulls may be worse, or they may just be grindier. I'm sure the offense wouldn't be the joy it has been for MOST games this season. Mirotic working out so far is such a boon. His value was always hit because you couldn't REALLY count on anything. But he has just an incredible work ethic and set of skills, he's going to be at the least a borderline all star eventually.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 10:38 PM) Radio talk seems to indicate pace turned down a few gigs and bear job is total control and ideal place for him. Seems like a great move. He turned down jets, but all did.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 02:49 PM) Saints haven't taken 7 players in a draft since 2007. That is amazing. Yikes, opposite of approach I'd like.

Jordan Danks DFA, Phillies claim him
QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) If John Danks and Jordan Danks weren't brothers, no one would give a s*** he was just designated for assignment. But... BJ Suck is still on the 40-man roster, so its a headscratcher. Thanks, Charlie Haeger's Knuckles I disagree, Jordan had some fans. One fan. I was his only fan

French Newspaper Attack
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 07:54 AM) Don't forget about the police officers that lost their lives trying to save him too. Freedom of speech is great, the terrorists are awful, awful people, but I still just have a hard time justifying the point in publishing these cartoons. Sitting in your cozy Paris office thinking you are invincible and can go toe-to-toe with the terrorists, well they won and 11 others are gone. There are ways to fight terrorism, but taunting them by blaspheming their god in a way that also offends some peaceful Muslims doesn't seem the way to go about it. I find it odd that you are conflating or assuming that they felt they were fighting terrorism. They were exhibiting their right to satire in a nation full of it. There is also no one "group" that is attacking them, so saying they knew a freight train is coming is strange. Lastly, I disagree that the terrorists won. Russia wouldn't start a war with the US over an editorial cartoon showing Putin doing a bear, because they have real power. This group is lashing out violently because they have no real power and they will just do whatever.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) Wow this would shock me if it happened. After all the talk and rumblings it seemed for sure Ballard was the guy. No offense to Gage, but that doesn't sound like a rock solid source.

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 08:21 AM) Not overreacting cause of the no show yesterday by the team, but Rose struggles seem more than just a "funk". His shooting mechanics look pretty crappy, half the time he leans forward and honestly still looks hesitant as hell coming down. Also...what happened to the floater?

I don't think the AP is concerned about being nice, they are concerned that someone they employ could die. That's not a risk that 95% of magazines or newspapers face. The Daily Picayune could post something terrible about Mohammed tomorrow and be fine.

French Newspaper Attack
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 05:02 PM) But no one can say this anymore. It's all incredibly rare, but anyone can be a target. Running in a marathon can make you a target. Drawing a cartoon can make you a target. And if the AP (and others) had balls to begin with, this wouldn't be a problem. People could choose to work at an organization like that and "risk" an attack. That's still not an excuse to abandon your principles because of fear. No one is abandoning their principles. You are hysterical. A bunch of courageous journalists in france were gunned down today, and a bunch of Americans freak out about how they are going to die in a terrorist attack. Something bad happened to some good people, acting like this is a turning point in a war gives them way more power than they have.

French Newspaper Attack
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 04:50 PM) No, see that's the complete wrong way to look at it. The fact that the AP and other publications go along with that censorship nonsense is a factor here. It narrowed the pool of potential targets to this paper, a repeat "offender." If every publication said "f*** it, we don't care if .000001% of the global population gets offended by this publication," terrorists wouldn't know who to attack. edit: and the fact that certain publications are censoring the cartoons that caused this is beyond pathetic. It's admirable to take a stand that puts your own life in danger. I find it a harder decision if your stand puts another person's life in danger. Those at Charlie Hebdu were there for a reason, AP is just different. Yeah, it would be cool if a bunch of papers colluded, but, it's pretty easy when you are 100% certain nothing will happen to you to do it.

I'm so glad people like Charlie Hebdu stand up for free speech in true circumstances of courage, where violence is actively charged and carried out against them. But give AP some slack. It's really hard to do what Charlie Hebdu and the people that work there do, AP has thousands of employees all over globe who may get attacked. They have skin in the game, nobody is going to come after soxbadger for putting up the image on a chicago baseball message board. That said, there is a really wrong thing to do, and it's blame Charlie Hebdu for provoking. The fault is those that respond to speech with violence.
