The ineptitude and amateurishness to which we deployed, as we heard at the time, this extreme interrogation for only the most wanted suspects, across a seemingly random swath of 123 people, should make anyone pause if this can ever be done right while still secretive.

The thing is, they had that response ready regardless of the report. The report is so huge and details so much incompetence, but its' so huge, that they'll muddy the waters with "it kept us safe" regardless of direct contradictions that it did not, and since it feels like torture is awesome because 24 and zero dark 30 and every f***ing show, people will go back to the argument of OH YEAH AND IF A GUY HAS KNOWLEDGE OF AN ATTACK WE CAN'T BREATHE ON EM OH YOU LIBERALS OH

Ugh, WGN morning news, which I watch because they are funny! But I knew this would be the segment: Outline of torture report : "freezing baths" "forced feedings" "stress positions" (i.e. pulled out the parts largely known), no mention that it was done and killed several innocent people, and then followed up with their military analyst who says it is harmful to release their report. I'm sorry, but they had 10 years of explaining why this wasn't bad and was actively helpful, they don't get more time after it clearly was not to say "why does this need to be said?".

I'm really glad this was released. Not only does it put to bed any notion of "was it torture?", it exposes the bigger lie at the heart of the CIA, that actions carried out are done by a bunch of well-trained, brilliant patriots pressing hard when they know they need info for the country...and yeah, no, it is the keystone cops.
