  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 08:58 PM) Who are these players you speak of? You may be right, there might be someone i'm not thinking of, but for now, to get over the hurdle of "veteran of the system/franchise + good defender+capable ball-handler," I need some names. I'd much rather have made a push with the BAE after Shawn Marion than kirk Hinrich. Now if we land Marion on vet min (as KC Johnson rumored, but I find to be a longshot), I'll retract any criticism. I'd just much rather have defensive help to wings than backup PG, where that added D provides less value as far as I'm concerned. I think there is a chance if Snell has not developed that Jimmy will be stay on the court for the second unit like we often saw from Deng because Hinrich-Snell-McDermott-Mirotic-Taj may be good on D, but we don't know. Especially when we need D, I'd feel more comfortable with Rose-Butler-Marion-Gibson-Noah than Rose-Hinrich-Butler-Gibson-Noah. And I'd still rather have Ramon Sessions. Rose-Sessions-Brooks just makes me more comfortable with offense when Rose goes down than Rose-Hinrich-Brooks. Maybe he signs for the min, but that requires convincing.
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 07:36 PM) In comparison to Lebron James, yes, he sucks. In comparison to other back-up point guards making 2 million a year, he's actually pretty good. His shooting is about the only thing that sucks in his game. He can do everything else just fine for 10-15 minutes a game against a 2nd unit. So can other players for the vet min. A guard that can't shoot or pass...it does sound appealing.
  3. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 07:20 PM) FWIW, Kirk was 4-5 from beyond the arc and 6-11 overall in that 68 point game....He wasn't the problem.....DJ was 1-10 that game Kirk was getting paid $4 million last year to shoot 32% from the field and 75% from FT. Please tell me some more great 1-game samples.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 07:02 PM) you are acting like Hinrich was the only addition, and is going to be the starter going forward forever. He is a backup. If he ends up being the starter, then the Bulls are certainly in trouble(for reasons other than him starting), but he was not brought in to be the starter. No, I'm not acting like that at all. I'm questioning the allocation of resources to a s*** backup PG for the BAE when more interesting moves were available, or players with different skill sets (offense) were available. Other bulls fans, who liked the offseason, need to convince themselves that because they like Doug and Nikola, that Kirk must also have been a good addition because they like to feel good and not think of anything bad. But Kirk sucks, we know he sucks because we've watched him suck, and this season when he dribbles in circles for 20 minutes and can't get the ball to our incredible second line of shooters, we will hear about how Kirk sucks on this very board that is so happy we used our last bit of attractive flexibility on Kirk Hinrich.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 06:30 PM) He isn't going to be THE 2. He might get minutes at the 2. Big difference. I didn't say he was.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 06:57 PM) Did anyone watch the first episode of "Married" on FX last Thursday? Thought it was pretty funny. I wanted to like it because of Jenny Slate, but that was such cliche tripe.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 07:27 PM) I still can't decide what I think of the show. It has my attention, but it hasn't been must see either. I'm curious how some of the mini-plots work themselves out. That was my favorite ep because it had pace. This past week, I guess stuff happened, but it hit the end of the show and I was just still not grabbed. They have to move forward on something, they are covering too many story lines and need to pull some in by ep 5. This is usually when HBO shows start to pick up, they need to take notes.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 06:13 PM) At the very least he isn't a BAD defender, which is more than you can say for DJ/Nate. okay. But the team scored 68 points in a playoff game, when this team needs offense, are you going to throw Kirk at the 2? That's exciting to everyone? I'd rather have tried the BAE on Shawn Marion than kirk if we wanted defensive re-enforcement. I'd have no problem had Kirk decided to pay the org a true discount and signed for vet min I'd be all for it. But to sign him at 2 million per because he is better at defense than 2 offensive guards, meh.
  9. Is it unsurprising to see Peter hit like this right away due to his seasoning in college? When drafted it seemed like consensus was he was a pick to save some cost. Is that accurate? What are things to look for that he may be beating expectations?
  10. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 04:49 PM) Ravelo is limited to a position that power is a requisite but does not have appropriate power for that position. If he could play another position his profile would be much more valuable. Sounds like Ross Gload.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 05:37 PM) I want to see it but not very well at dealing with super long run times. Yeah it is long, and it isn't plot driven. There is no big-payoff. For those type movies I prefer to force myself to go to theatre than at home, where I'll start playing with my phone and miss stuff.

I really liked Boyhood. May resonate more with some than others. Seeing the predictable "okay but it WASN"T a masterpiece" reviews and "I wish it was something ELSE" reviews, because the only reason to watch something is to validate other peoples opinions of it. Linklater's dialogue of younger people has always been incredibly realistic. So few movies focus on kids, and if they do they are props for the adults. Or when they are main characters they are given adult dialogue. I liked it because he was effective in making me remember and feel what it was like at those points as a kid, but I could also appreciate in an adult lens again. It especially may hit home for those with single parents and remembering how "in it together" you were with them, which wears off when you move on from childhood.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 04:09 PM) Can't really play Rose and Augustin together. Tiny backcourt and both are bad defensively. Bringing back Hinrich was a good move. They replaced Augustin with a minimum player in Aaron Brooks anyway. Rose really isn't that bad defensively, and if someone can explain to me what you are getting in Hinrich at the 2, I'd love to hear it. Is it a better offensive lineup with him there? If not, then it must be better at defense...but I'd much rather use Snell's 7 foot wingspan at SG if we are going defense and jimmy at the 3. So it must be adding a second ballhandler. I am drooling right now thinking about kirk dribbling for 15 seconds and then passing it to a cutting rose to shoot a desperation shotclock expiring jumper. Hinrich is Mark Kotsay in his stay with the white sox. You can all make all the arguments about all these things Hinrich "can" do, but he's not particularly good at any of them. I'd much, much rather have given ourselves a potential offense-heavy unit that paired rose with a guard who can take defenders off the dribble and shoot 3s at a consistent clip. We don't have that. We do have guards that aren't particularly good on offense, decent at defense and aren't inspired balhandlers.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 04:09 PM) Denver has been just like the Bulls in the western conference. Good enough in the season to get b**** slapped in the playoffs by better teams with superstars. There are so many things Minnesota should have done prior to this point, but that is just kickign a dead horse. If they can get Wiggins, thats great, I stated before that I think Cleveland should hold on to Wiggins over trading for Love. I just think that stating that Minnesota is on track to get the greatest haul since Denver isnt exactly a glowing endoresement for trading a superstar. But the bulls are a big market that has won championships in the past and has that expectation. For smaller franchises, being in the playoffs IS a big deal and is their goal. If Denver can get to Memphis levels of success, I think that would be a huge accomplishment.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) I kept it recent, but outside of getting Wiggins, this is probably not going to work out well for Minnesota. And even if they get Wiggins, he will probably just bide his time until it is his turn to force a trade, and the cycle begins anew But what are they supposed to do? They are going to come out about as well as anyone. And for as much as we think Denver is in NBA Hell, they are collecting good assets while being a potential playoff team. They may be able to pull of a great trade in the future, but for a franchise like that, making the playoffs is good news. They aren't like the Bucks of 07-12.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 03:28 PM) Hinrich has gotten significant minutes everywhere he has played with multiple coaches. We have one of the best head coaches in the league and he clearly values Hinrich. DJ was absolutely atrocious defensively. I liked DJ and was appreciative of what he did and wanted him back, but I'm perfectly fine with Brooks and I always wanted Hinrich + DJ or a guy like Brooks. Hinrich is important because when you can limit his minutes, his efficiency will increase and he is capable of playing the 2 allowing Rose to play off the ball without hurting your defense. He's "capable" of playing the 2. But so is Rose, you can still have a 2 guard lineup with either of the backups I would have preferred. If there is any benefit to pairing rose with an offensively deficient 2 guard who shoots 32% from long range, we would have seen it with Keith Bogans. And it's great Hinrich has better career playoff ppg, but I'm not sure anyone cares what he did 10 years ago. I care about what will have happened with this crap player from years 2012-2016 when we'll have paid him $12 million to offer 9 ppg and 4 assists as the starting, primary ballhandler for 2 of those years. Thibs can hide terrible players defense much easier than he can make Kirk hinrich an average offensive player.
  17. Minnesota is on pace to get one of the best hauls for a star player leaving since Denver.
  18. I'm sure Minnesota is chomping at the bit for another tweener forward.
  19. Minnesota isn't going to accept anthony friggen bennett because he decided to show up in shape and is playing well against the 35 year old goatee'd fireman of summer league
  20. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 09:48 PM) I hope Thibs has more then a 7 or 8 man rotation during the regular season.. Almost everyone on the roster right now should be getting minutes He will. Remember 2011, Thibs used all of Thomas boozer Noah Gibson and asik, and Keith cj rose brewer deng and Korver. He will play you if he trusts you. Last year was by far our thinnest and weakest.
  21. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 09:10 PM) DJ was getting skullf***ed in the playoffs by Wall and Beal. As bad as Robinson was the year before. Yeah and wasn't hinroch SO awesome in the playoffs? Nate Robinson won that series with nets along with noah and was reason we stole game 1 vs Heat
  22. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 05:53 PM) My idea is all under the assumption that the Cubs need to dump Jackson to the point where they'd give up prospects. If their intention is to eat as much as they have to and in effect buy a prospect then it can't work. Also I expect that this idea is also terrible. Dan Bernstein, is that you?
  23. You are right, for less money, Nate and DJ only offered us more ppg, more assists per game, better FG% and better 3pt FG%, and only slightly less steals and rebounds than Kirk Hinrich the past two years. Also Kirk sucks at free throws.
