  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 06:40 PM) I get his point though. It's pretty dangerous to start a trend that anything an owner says in private - even if he doesn't act that way publicly - can get his team taken away from him. But I think the key here is that Sterling has been this way for a long time and people just kept looking the other way because it didn't directly affect the Clippers, a now prominent team. If the Clippers had still been the worst organization in the league I bet this doesn't happen the way that it did. Slippery slope arguments are not convincing to me. He didn't say "anything" behind closed doors, he said words that were hateful and directed at a community that makes up the vast majority of it's players and a significant portion of his fans. He didn't just say something that was offensive, he said something that was significantly damaging to the league he is an owner in and makes money being a part of. So if another says "anything" which has equal damage to the league, sorry, you will get paid 1 billion to leave that league.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 06:44 PM) You might think that intuitively, but there's always been this creepy side where his face almost constantly appears in the LA Times citing whatever award he's getting for giving some foundation a few thousand dollars. His companies spend a lot of money on his reputation otu there. The cares about his reputation side might run into his vindictive side though. The one that gives orders to evict a woman because she asked he fix the heat and water.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 06:37 PM) Based on California law, he might be able to make a case against the person who released the recording if the recording was made without his permission/knowledge, but that's it. And the question of course is...if you're a billionaire real estate owner, do you want that case being on the front page of the LA Times for 6 months? We're talking about Donald Sterling. I don't think he cares.
  4. Damn good for the league. I hope they start taking more interest in terrible owners.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 06:11 PM) IMO, he was totally set up, but he's been like this all along and has gotten away with it. Now the bill comes due, as it always does. He's not in a court of law. Couldn't agree more. This reputation has been around a long time.
  6. Thank you, that is exactly what I was wondering. Safe to assume his LD% will come down, but if he had improved his LD stroke that means his production will be much better.
  7. Is there any other signs this isn't just luck? Like, yes obviously this is an incredibly lucky month, but is it possible he can hit .240-.250 because he's has a higher line drive rate than last year? Just hoping his regression is to bad catcher not worst catcher in history of league.
  8. Seems like a homeowners association has more power than the NBA with it's owners.

    2014 TV thread

THat trailer for The Leftovers was really well done. I'm intrigued to say the least.
  10. QUOTE (Dunt @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) I said it earlier this season, and I'll say it again now: you get through April with a .500 or better record and this team is for real. Their May schedule is as soft as a pillow, time to get fat and put some separation between us and the rest of the division. On a side note, had a blast at the game last night. I love these empty April games. Had 500 levels from the free survey and ended up in the 6th row behind the Sox on deck circle by the end of the game, doesnt get much better than that. I was able to sit in the seats just behind the scout seats for $30 against the Red Sox. Never been able to sit that close t home plate.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) The walk-off granny gets all of the publicity, but I am with you. That was just a great baseball play. When the catcher got that ball I feel like Adam was still halfway down the line, and nobody on the field yelled "hey runner" or anything, nobody from the dugout? Sneaky stuff.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 02:25 PM) Stealing that run the other day on a lazy cutoff throw was a thing of beauty. That was one of my favorite plays of the series. I narrowed it down to series because there was so much awesome stuff the last 4 days.
  13. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 01:12 PM) I can tell you how to get him out: Fastballs in on his hands all at bat. He hasn't shown a willingness to take a walk on those yet. He always swings eventually and jams himself. I think ever since he hit that homer in Colorado, advance scouts musta said something about how he can hurt you inside. But really, that's the best way to get him. This is typical for most every hitter. The good thing is that's a zone that if missed just a bit lower and outside is going to be crushed. That he has eliminated other areas of the plate is really exciting. He also crowds over the plate so much that area is very small.
  14. I'm always surprised when I see Semiens avg. so low. It seems like he gets a hit every time he's up.
  15. Interesting part of that article: Bears No. 3 receiving position with Marquess Wilson and Domenik Hixon Excited about this possibility. Also realizing we may need to draft a WR.
  16. Fans don't root for the on the field product, they root for the owners. That's why I'm a Bears fan, for sure.
  17. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 09:39 PM) Becoming a real SEC basketball program Really enjoying all this money we get to use for basketball head coaches.
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 08:52 PM) What's wrong with the hire? Don't know anything about him other than the resume. D2 national champion. Hiring d2 coaches is sort of unprecedented but if you just think of as a longtime assistant, which he was, I don't see the problem. It is honestly one of the worst hires I could imagine. We know from his assistant years at mizzou that 1. He could not recruit, because nobody he recruited was good. 2. He was an assistant toward the end on some very bad Norm teams. 3. He is old. Really old. 4. He was such a good D2 coach that no low-tier program offered him a step-out. We aren't talking about Bo Ryan here. By the time this guy builds a program he'll be at the point most coaches start thinking about retirement.
  19. missouri just committed themselves to being a 75-125 program for next 5 years. About to get real bad.
  20. good lord, mizzou might approve the contract at 1pm and people think it may still not be known who the coach is.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 02:06 PM) I hated GoT last night. WTF are those story lines? My least favorite scene was littlefinger having to spell this s*** out to Sansa for the second week in a row. Like...really Sansa? He told you this a week ago. What do you think he was doing with that necklace?
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 06:40 PM) Because he finally crossed the final line, and was racist towards a legend. It is incredibly stupid and hypocritical to only now act on it, but thats how these things work I guess How stupid is Sterling though? Magic OWNs LA Elgin Baylor is also a legend. What he said obviously was so transparent and just incredibly terrible it deserves this. But it is funny to me seeing all these outlets suddenly realizing all the stuff Sterling has been accused of.
  23. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 04:34 PM) Heinrich had 4 of their 16 turnovers. He was terrible, but only had one more turnover than Noah and Taj had. May be true number wise but maybe 6-8 more passes almost got picked off.
  24. Can't believe how tightlipped mizzou search has been.
  25. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 05:15 PM) My thoughts exactly. Especially for a day game. He shows up and you see how he feels right then and it should be pretty clear. Here's to hoping that somehow Beckham hits great? I guess? They did the Adam Banks test.
