QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 07:39 PM) BTW, The Raiders had a ridiculous O-Line when Trestman was there. Better hope they finally make some improvements in that area. If J'marcus Webb is the bears LT next year...hoo doggy.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 07:35 PM) Who actually was responsible for Gannon's success with the Raiders, Trestman or Gruden? I don't think it's an either/or. I think it's an example of the success you can have when you have an offensive scheme geared to the QB's success.

So how come when Te'O is fitting the exact same behaviors you describe, you continue to just act like it was others who were the conmen.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 06:48 PM) True, one thing that was missing last year were the complete nonsense plays, I'll give you that. I still feel like I was watching a system last year where the Bears were 100% insistent that they could take deep drops and throw the ball down the field while their O-Line was matched up one on one, which was also where I felt the Martz system failed the worst. I agree. The passing plays took way too long to develop, and usually didn't develop. Which was the opposite of what I thought we were in for.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 06:36 PM) Hiring a guy that has actually accomplished something in the NFL to me is a good idea as the organization right now has little of it from decision making positions. I could get behind it if these were young up and coming guys getting their shot but none of them are. That doesn't address whether he can legally coach.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 05:14 PM) And none of them are leaving. He just doesnt have the same contacts as a guy who has been in the NFL for the last 6 years. Hes just not familiar. That isnt necessarily a bad thing. Being a copycat isnt always the best. I know, I'm just trying to figure out where his contacts are coming from. It doesn't seem like his dolphins days really held any long-standing relationships. But it looks like he was friends with a lot of people with Sean Payton and from his old Raiders and Niners days more than any others. There are no young bright minds coming in, these are people who have been in the NFL for a long time and rarely moved up. It'll be interesting to see.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 05:05 PM) Trestman has basically no relationships with current NFL coaches. It makes perfect sense that he is hiring guys that he was familiar with in the 90s. He seems to come up a lot around Sean Paytons staff.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 05:02 PM) Tice was an experience coach and he did a lousy job the last few years. Ask the Jets fans how they really feel about Cavanaugh Oh, okay.

Okay troll. Trestman seems to have put together a pretty experienced staff. Cavanaugh to QB coach, can't say I was pleased as punch with his record with some horrible QBs in NYJ. But certainly a very experienced coach, having been an OC for 5 years.

I like everything the Browns have done. A long struggling franchise, I hope they've finally found a shot. I really like their defense, and they have some pieces on offense to go with.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 10:48 PM) I think this seems the most reasonable. And then once he found out (December 6) then what are you going to do? "Hi everyone, remember that gf I said I had who died. Turned out she was my online gf who I never met, and yeah it was a con because she called me from beyond the grave asking what was up after an awards show. No further questions!" I think either dodge it or tell the truth.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 10:44 PM) I honestly don't think he was in on the con, but I think he completely embellished the story as time went on. The unnamed ND player's comments seem to support this. I agree with this. At some point he knew it was fake but saw he was gaining from it and couldn't stop the lies.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 11:24 PM) SI: I can call Stanford and check. They have to have some record or note that she passed. Bet he wishes he would have done that now Eubanks, who directed Stanford's football media relations this season, couldn't find her in the alumni directory and thought it was odd that, on such a small campus, he'd never heard of a student dating Te'o. This was the most glaring sign I missed. I thought that maybe she didn't graduate, so we took any reference to Stanford out of the story. Read More: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-f.../#ixzz2IH58YhFw +++++++++++ He did, and didn't find anything so he removed it from the story. I think he could've ran with this *he was on deadline* but he REALLY should've followed up after on this.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 10:37 PM) I think a lot of the outrage I've seen is because of what ND did to purposely cover this up and also the amount of public effort they put into this vs actual tragedies. Oh I absolutely think this is a strike 3 you're out moment for ND AD. They are dragging that university into the mud.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 10:12 PM) Oh Mr. Klosterman, thank you for always getting it right. Honestly, in my opinion, the best summary of the audacity of public reaction here. I'm not seeing this public reaction you are. Everyone i've seen talk about it, on twitter, et al, very little righteousness in this. I'm actually loving that there are no victims because I feel no guilt gawking at this train wreck.

So, I'm bored at work. Looking at coaches from the saints and raiders from early 00s and miami teams. Wondering if coaches from Spags stint at rams or Jim Bates would come up. I'm wondering if he'll favorr someone with experience at D-Coordinator (even if it's a bad run/average), or go for a green name never given the shot, and has languished as a dline/lb coach.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 08:53 PM) I don't think I am. I think Bears fans are imagining the team has much more cap freedom than it actually has. That's going to make choosing between Melton and an O-lineman hurt. How do you think it'll go if the Bears sign the #10 O-lineman on the board for $3 million and that's the only o-line addition they make before the draft? I'm sure it's somewhere in the middle. I find the NFL salary cap incredible confusing. Seems to be a lot of gimmicks.
