  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 04:32 PM) Bad, bad news on Patrick Sharp. Hopefully he can be back for the playoffs. This, this is why I wished the playoffs had already started. Then he would be out for the playoffs.
  2. I don't know where we are at this point, internet is too hard nowadays.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) LOL. The head of You Can Play is calling it BS, so it sounds like another made-up Twitter rumor. BTW that was a great response made to the rumors.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 04:41 PM) Let's hope this is accurate. That's great news. Sometimes quotes seem so much more ominous in print, and that tweet about Q's response to Sharp being out for year was terrifying even though he denied it (technically).
  5. Yeah, f***in a, I was thinking it was Frolik that got the puck around the boards that led to the Bickell goal. It was Stalberg.
  6. So, if we don't lose the next game, we'll have gone the "first half" of the season without a regulation loss. /knocksonwood. Frolik had a game yesterday.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 6, 2013 -> 03:53 PM) But they still have pretty high inequality and there's widespread discontent with the government IIRC. And their privatized social security system has been a bit of a failure, too. What's wrong with saying Chavez was s***ty politically but that the way he used the oil wealth to help the poor was genuinely good when many other leaders have not? I'm not required to endorse everything he did or said in order to point out that he wasn't the universal evil he's typically portrayed as. Probably for the same reason people don't say, Sure, Mussolini was a bloody tyrant, but boy did the trains arrive on time. As I said, many other countries in south america have reigned in their natural resources to create better transfers of wealth.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 6, 2013 -> 03:25 PM) How much of Chile's progress in the last couple of decades are an offshoot of Pinochet's reign? They've done well after those neoliberal policies were implemented, but how egalitarian is their society? How does it compare to Chavez's use of natural resource wealth for the poor? Chavez did some good things while also having a toxic political culture. I don't know if that comes out to a net positive or if that even means anything anyway. But I think it's important to note what he did with the natural resource wealth when he could have easily done what's much more common. There's no question that he's harmed Venezuelan democracy, and for that he should be criticized. After Pinochet was removed, the former socialist party took over and have been a very good government. They have kept the best part of Friedman via Pinochet reforms, while creating a better floor for their population. They are a very-well run country with good government.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 6, 2013 -> 01:01 AM) Coworker just had that happen with chase past week. Wonder if something was compromised? The more I tell people about this, the more people claimed it's happened in last few weeks.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 6, 2013 -> 04:11 PM) Yup. The fact that the governing party is now in chaos with no leadership is a sign of the type of government he ran. For as much as he restricted free speech, though, I'd throw out there that he did depart from the typical SA "assassinate or disappear the opposition" moves, at least as far as I've ever heard, while some of the opposition still advocates for those tactics. South American governance has certainly turned a corner, but I prefer to hold up Chile and Brazil as the progress rather than their bad apple. Chile's tech scene is because of their government and people's initiative. The two go can go hand and hand and countries should always look for those opportunities and be accepting of failure in those cases.
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 6, 2013 -> 01:40 PM) Chavez died yesterday. Mixed bag of anti-democratic measures, ego-maniacal leadership but also using his country's natural resources wealth to actually help the poorer citizens of his country. Many resource rich neighboring countries did the same thing much more effectively, without terrorizing the opposition.
  12. whew. That was intense. Just had 3 $200 charges made on my account within 15 minutes. I had $100 alerts on luckily and was able to call Chase right away. They are a good bank to have for that stuff. I put a fraud alert on my credit as well. Hopefully contained any damage.
  13. You are allowed to be lazier, so long as you are more productive. Productivity has continued, so it shouldn't be an issue.
  14. This woodward stuff is hysterical. http://www.politico.com/story/2013/02/excl...26.html?hp=t2_3
  15. I hope not. I have many friends in St Louis. I find them to be the most obnoxious sports fans in the world. I enjoy beating STL more than DET.
  16. I feel like this is common with longtime coaches second stints. There is an impatience with rebuilding and a short term plug-gap mentality.
  17. Isn't Smith expensive too? s***, I'd rather trade for Matt Flynn.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 05:29 PM) That is absurd. The absolute most I would have given up would have been one 3rd round pick, not two 2nd round picks Especially with that being the first 2nd round pick.
  19. good lord chiefs. That is awful. luckily the raiders trade will forever be worse.

Excellent. Clearly seems there is a niche for smelt fishing adventures. Given the large smelt fishing window, this seems incredibly lucrative./green Really do appreciate it, wikipedia/google had all articles with assumed knowledge.
  21. Sheldon Richardson with a good combine. Every mizzou player I can remember entering the draft has had a good combine, I wonder if we train them for these drills.
  22. Seems like a bunch of nerds put it together.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 07:11 PM) That and showing that he rented porn at a video store. Which was ridiculous. Turns out there was no porn. I specifically remember a professor saying that happened. Or maybe I just assumed any rental history would include such.
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 06:58 PM) Robert Bork was "Borked" by having his stated and written opinions recited back to him accurately. That and showing that he rented porn at a video store. Which was ridiculous.

Couple questions. I've been thinking up some different things to do this summer. Smelt season is coming up. I am an amateur, as the questions below will attest. 1) Do you need a boat to smelt fish? 2) Can I just toss my nets in and retrieve them without a boat? 3) Is smelt fishing fun at all or is it like throwing lobster crates into the lake? Thanks. -Ben
