  1. Just to add some more thoughts, I didn't ask for permission, I just went ahead of time to let them know I was about to propose.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 04:18 PM) Yup. Thanks, I must have just connected in my head that it was winterfell because last year that was what was seen burning. My bad.
  3. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 09:53 PM) So I find this all very old-school, is it still common place to do this? I know it's a way to show respect to the father in law, but I just thought this was out-dated. While I find history of literally needing permission outdated and disgusting, I think going over to parents before a proposal to let them know you are going to marry their daughter to be very worthwhile. It will probably be one of few times you will be alone with their parents and I think is a great start to what will be a crazy time. I just went over to their house and did it. But my friends have taken them to a restaurant and such. I don't see the need to beat around the bush but to each his own.
  4. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 08:28 PM) Let's not forget that the marketing for this team thus far has been HORRIBLE - those stupid pie in the face TV spots etc. We all love Brooks as a guy but the marketing last few years has been really shoddy, let's admit it. I think this should be fleshed out more. Why hasn't $5 sundays been more highly marketed? I wonder if they are trying to do some very selective price discrimination here.
  5. Absolutely. If I did not read this board, I would not have known about $5 tickets or that ticket prices decreased. I don't even know what our "campaign" is this year.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 07:04 PM) They did get right around 25K last year for the same Sunday home game, but it was against the Tigers, so hard to compare. Since 25% is the max or limit usually for a mortgage payment, and 10%+ for tithing, I'm hoping he was being facetious. If not, it's an argument with no rationality behind it. We might as well be arguing that people should be required to donate XXX amount of money to Sox Charities for attending games as well, since the food banks and places like Harvesters have been so hard hit since 2008. Marty asked a business where the customer isn't always right...the White Sox are treated just as much like churches and non-profits by local governments than they are a non-profit organization. That's why there are thousands of protesters and numerous statistical analyses attempting to prove how much of a waste of taxpayer funding that most stadium projects are... So I can't think of any for profit businesses that are so profitable which are also so supported/subsidized by the government besides the oil industry...but that's an argument for another day and forum. Not to mention their anti-trust exemption, which clearly demarcates them as a different type of business than any other in American cultural/historical tradition. Come on, guys, it was clearly a joke. Marty has been arguing it's silly to blame the fans for not showing up, then turns around and says fans should donate 15%?
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 06:49 PM) There's no point in worrying about attendance right now. You simply don't get a ton of walk-ups in April. Once it gets warm out and if the team is still playing well, then we can see if the price changes made a difference. /thread
  8. QUOTE (balfanman @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 05:39 PM) I absolutely abhor interleague play as well. I can't stand the disadvantages that 1 team has by not having a roster constructed for the other leagues rules. I think that it is especially harmful to an American League team to work wothout the DH for a series. Our pitchers have not held a bat for years in some cases, and I really don't want them wasting time trying to learn how to hit. I completely agree.
  9. If I recall correctly, our success against Gio has involved surviving him early and then getting some runs after he gets tired. He seems to have improved his fatigue issue lately, but the key will be to get some good at bats early and extend his pitch count.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 06:01 PM) And people were freaking out because Axelrod was scheduled to face Felix. Axelrod beat Felix with probably the worst lineup we can throw together trotted out there.
  11. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 12:47 AM) No. We need more Obamanomics. Clearly it's working. More of the same. Please explain to me what you interpret Obamanomics to be.

GoT question: In the season premiere, what was the castle they were at that was massacred and burned? I thought that was at Winterfell, but then in last night's they get a letter from winterfell. I'm not the best at keepin track, any help appreciated.
  13. I do want to say though, I went to the game on Saturday which was crazy warm. It was a blast, the food at the game is just awesome now. On top of that, that Saturday game was amazing, and that was a garbage 07 lineup out there.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 04:50 PM) Ha, no, WAR is a cumulative statistic. While that home run technically won the game, he was 0-3 prior to that. Had he done more in those previous ABs, his home run would not have been necessary otherwise and thus, he actually hurt the team in the process. Viciedo has actually been one of the 3 worst players for the Sox early on along with Konerko and Keppinger. Rios and Ramirez have been the most valuable with Flowers a close 3rd. Rios is in a zone, he nearly had another on Saturday that the wind dropped down right before the OF fence

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 02:54 PM) So I was watching Chicago Fire last night with the girlfriend, and since the show takes place in Chicago, and of course they want to add in some local flavor to each episode, last night they had a scene where the firefighters were in the station watching baseball games. They were arguing about the Cubs vs the Sox while watching a Sox game. Then one guy shouts out "Be quiet, I am trying to listen to 'The Hawk.'" Dead give away that the writers have no clue... They were filming that s*** on my block on Friday night. What a pain in the ass that was. It started from 6pm until 2am, the rerouting made no sense, and I had no idea where the fullerton bus was picking people up. Screw that show.
  16. I suppose we should also talk about how Addison Reed has been pretty drama-free this year. Great start for him.
  17. I went to the game on Saturday, but I generally refuse to go to games in April unless asked. You couldn't have paid me to go to Friday night's extra innings game in rainy 30 degree weather. When it is June and it's like this, then you can complain. But April baseball is horrible, I don't care how hardcore you are as a fan.
  18. Just a great series. Loved every game, lotsa great pitching and heart.
  19. We need more austerity.
  20. Time to kick the tires and light the fires.
  21. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 08:49 PM) I'm actually really bummed about Ebert, I loved the guy. He was a Chicago icon. RIP Me too. Few celebrity deaths really hit me, but when I was abroad, his blog entries on London really meant a lot to me. Those blog entries were so intimate, I felt like I knew him. Gonna be missed.
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 10:06 PM) I totally forgot about 2011...and for good reason. We were crushing the ball that first series.
  23. I hope DJ Williams is, between the PEDs and substance abuse you hope he has his head on straight.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 01:27 AM) What do you mean, exactly? I haven't really followed it for a while. There's a good chance. I've never been to lolla, but if it's like what I hear, I'm assuming you could get a decent secondhand/contact high just standing around. Sorry though, I don't think you can feel the affects of molly secondhand. Haha, sorry, not like "selling out" like going corporate or whatever, I mean it's passes sold out in a few hours last week. It sold out before they sent me the email letting me know tickets were on sale. Super annoying.

You should check out all the after shows that lolla provides then. I'm annoyed that lolla was so bad about selling out...but am still glad it's here.
