  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 07:11 PM) That and showing that he rented porn at a video store. Which was ridiculous. Turns out there was no porn. I specifically remember a professor saying that happened. Or maybe I just assumed any rental history would include such.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 06:58 PM) Robert Bork was "Borked" by having his stated and written opinions recited back to him accurately. That and showing that he rented porn at a video store. Which was ridiculous.

    Smelt Fishing

Couple questions. I've been thinking up some different things to do this summer. Smelt season is coming up. I am an amateur, as the questions below will attest. 1) Do you need a boat to smelt fish? 2) Can I just toss my nets in and retrieve them without a boat? 3) Is smelt fishing fun at all or is it like throwing lobster crates into the lake? Thanks. -Ben
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 06:16 PM) I'm guessing Rose is the one telling his "people" to talk to the media, so he doesn't look bad. maybe. Or maybe with Rose staying silent, it's those peripheral people being hounded for quotes since they can't get his opinions. People love to feel special.
  5. Robert Bork, often held as a martyr in conservative circles, has a confession in his post-humous memoir that Richard Nixon offered him a spot on Supreme Court if he acted on Nixons demands on the Saturday Night Massacre. He did.
  6. I'm gonna stand with Rose. It's clear he is working his ass off. He's not Lamar Odom'ing this recovery. I will respect the fact that it can be scary when your body isn't working normally when you are used to nothing holding you back, physically. It might be a different public response than we normally get from athletes, but so what. So long as he is working hard, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
  7. QUOTE (Jake @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 02:09 PM) I think the shortened season should make this kind of streak more unlikely. The lack of preparation for the season should have made for more inconsistent play. I agree. I actually have no idea how you could justify putting an asterisk on a straight up win streak. Shortening a season makes any record less likely, just a strange thing to say.

    The Oscars

McFarlane was terrible. He takes an obvious joke, makes it more raunchy than anyone wants, and takes the reaction as a success of edginess. I like the Oscars. Great thing about tv is there are multiple channels you can watch at any given time. And the people that want to watch it can, without it really bothering anyone elses schedule.

    The Oscars

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Feb 24, 2013 -> 03:48 PM) I thought "Silver Linings Playbook" was very average. Good performances by Cooper and Katniss, but the rest was pretty lame. There was nothing convincing about the DeNiro character or storyline at all. "Django" was very entertaining - minus the Tarantino over-the-top shootout. Waltz and Foxx were a good team, and Dicaprio was fantastic. "Argo" was great. Best thing I saw all year - in a year where I didn't get out to many movies. The opening scene at the embassy is so realistic (as far as I know). Edge of my seat for the whole sequence. Affleck should have been nominated for best director. Hollywood ending was the only flaw. DDL was great as Lincoln, but he's pretty much great in anything. The movie is worth seeing, but it's pretty slow. Love the Oscars. Not really sure why actors can't have a prepared speech that says "something" though. Thank your list of people on your time. Say something significant about why you got into acting or your film's significance, or anything. Just prepare. You're an actor. Act. You have a 20% chance of winning. 50/50 really - because you either win or you don't. Stop acting like you have no idea you would win. If you weren't nominated, and they announce you as the winner, then it's acceptable to stammer and do the Sarah Jessica Parker act. I really liked Argo, but of the strong movies this year, i can't imagine it being one we talk about in 20 years.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 25, 2013 -> 04:11 PM) You can't deny the W-L record is far superior with Noah having two legs. I think we're seeing strictly a coincidence tied into the fact that the Bulls just lack someone who plays like a PG (which Kirk barely does). If they had some turd like Beno Udrih or Luke Ridnour they'd look really, really good. It's basic basketball. But f*** Kirk and any conversation that acts like having that oft-injured 10 PER player makes the Bulls better. Yeah yeah, well, the bulls aren't scoring even without his bad offense, but at least he has played superior d compared to nate. This is a bad stretch.
  11. https://www.hbo.com/documentaries/mea-maxim...ulpa/index.html I just watched the HBO doc that follows a group of former students at a catholic school for the deaf who were raped by Father Murphy and their fight for justice. It has the best summary to date to follow the vaticans involvement in keeping the priests safe and victims irrelevant. Has anyone been able to see this yet as well? It goes into deep detail on pope John Paul and ratzingers personal involvement of their failure to defrock priests that molested hundreds. Thoughts?
  12. But yeah, the green line is a block over, shouldn't be too big of an issue.
  13. I was really hoping we could find some big man depth for Noah to take off some minutes. That said, our small lineup has been fine, we don't need noah playing 40 minutes.
  14. Emery and Trestman are supposed to meet with Media today in indy. Maybe we can get some fresh topics to talk about.
  15. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 05:43 AM) So the Kings draft Thomas Robinson over Damian Lillard and then trade him before he even finishes his rookie season. And then they wonder why they suck... Would new ownership have a say on this yet or is it still the Maloofs? I was really surprised by this, but it only makes sense to me if it was maloofs trying to unload cash, but i'm not sure what patrick patterson makes.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 20, 2013 -> 11:17 PM) Because there was a reasonable chance that the government wouldn't act strongly enough and the world would effectively implode? I was kidding.
  17. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 20, 2013 -> 10:04 PM) This is why people with money to invest took advantage of the time when the stocks were low and are now rising. Yeah, I don't know why everyone just didn't scrounge up some of their excess capital to re-invest when it hit 8,000.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 20, 2013 -> 05:36 PM) No, April was the biggest factor. They only had 9 home games in July and the worst they drew was 21.2K. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CH...le-scores.shtml Ugh, I was there April 9. That was horrible.
  19. I went to 6 games last year, I'm hoping to go to 10 this year. The thing that surprised me with last years lower attendance was the great April weather I thought would boost us. But July games were so miserably hot I could see that hurting them as well.
  20. It's tweets like that that make me think that all Derrick was trying to do was readjust expectations that his arrival might be more like april and was not "after the allstar break" like people had begun to assume.
  21. The entire Canucks are ndamakong suh edit: that sentence is rough. I'd prefer to re-write as The entire Canucks franchise is Ndamakon Suh
  22. Mizzou really needed that for their résumé after Saturdays officiating travesty.
  23. That person was very reckless and is lucky if they are okay. But that sort of visibility gap is why people aren't supposed to ride on sidewalks, in addition to the pedestrian hazard.
