QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 20, 2013 -> 10:04 PM) This is why people with money to invest took advantage of the time when the stocks were low and are now rising. Yeah, I don't know why everyone just didn't scrounge up some of their excess capital to re-invest when it hit 8,000.

Sox projecting increase in attendance
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 20, 2013 -> 05:36 PM) No, April was the biggest factor. They only had 9 home games in July and the worst they drew was 21.2K. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CH...le-scores.shtml Ugh, I was there April 9. That was horrible.

Sox projecting increase in attendance
I went to 6 games last year, I'm hoping to go to 10 this year. The thing that surprised me with last years lower attendance was the great April weather I thought would boost us. But July games were so miserably hot I could see that hurting them as well.

It's tweets like that that make me think that all Derrick was trying to do was readjust expectations that his arrival might be more like april and was not "after the allstar break" like people had begun to assume.

That person was very reckless and is lucky if they are okay. But that sort of visibility gap is why people aren't supposed to ride on sidewalks, in addition to the pedestrian hazard.

I'm severely underwhelmed by that list. This year there are great things at the top, but the top is a lot smaller, and the rest is awful. And the Nets are by far the least likeable team I've ever watched. You couldn't have put together a group of less likeable "stars', that also are just a pain in the ass to watch and enjoy.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 18, 2013 -> 03:37 PM) Gotta admit, I'm glad all this Michael is turning 50 aka time to kiss his ass ad nauseum and fabricate old stories s*** is out of the way now. I love Jordan (the player). But damn. We did this in 2003 (last season with the wizards), 2009 (hall of fame induction) before. Let's get back to enjoying what's been a fabulous season to this point. I have not enjoyed this season very much. Too many injuries. I've enjoyed watching the Spurs/heat/clippers/nuggets, but the east has been not just sub-par but not entertaining.

Ehlo's interviews are always great. I watched that game last spring on NBAtv. Probably would have been the game of his life had Jordan not hit that (And really, the most amazing thing about the shot was how Jordan did manage to split that double team and get so open).

2012-2013 Official NHL thread
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 18, 2013 -> 05:16 AM) It was a pretty good environment. The Minnesota/Wisconsin game definitely had more fans than the ND/Miami game, though Miami had a pretty good contingent. It appeared a lot of fans came for only one of the games, which is understandable. Wrong. Overall attendance was 52,000+ for the day. It was actually a pretty good amount of people there, especially for the second game. I didn't know what to expect going in, but it was a pretty good turnout, actually more than I expected. There were a ton of fans from all 4 teams involved, but a real nice amount of just plain old hockey fans with no allegiance there to take it in. You had a Hawks game going on at the same time, which took some away as well. Definitely something I hope they do again, or perhaps it serves as a test-run for the Hawks taking the next Winter Classic there, which would be 10x better than Wrigley as far as # of tickets available, sightlines, parking/tailgating, amenities, etc. I think the one thing that kinda kills Wrigley is the lack of a big scoreboard to show replays and stuff. With baseball you don't really care, but when I've seen other things there it's just strange not to have some media playing. Otherwise I've had fun at the "friendly at the confines" stuff, because if you can get seats near the infield you are right on top of it, and it's pretty special.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Feb 18, 2013 -> 02:54 AM) College basketball officials work regionally, not by conference. Well then refs located south and east are doing a miserable job in SEC conference games. They will let games be very physical and then randomly start calling all that physical play for one game ,and then go back to being lax. Nobody seems to know what they are going to get. You will either see 60 fouls or 15.

So, SEC basketball refs are horrible. Too many games they lose control of. Change has got to be made.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Feb 15, 2013 -> 06:06 PM) He had surgery for the injury last year and hasn't recovered since. Although there's no telling whether or not he'll be as explosive as he was. If he isn't then he loses a ton of his value. And people can say that the Center position has gone the way of the dodo bird, but look at how valuable Dwight was pre-injury. People argued that he was more valuable than Lebron at points and he took a team to the finals. He averaged 23 points per game. There isn't one thing that Dwight Howard could do better offensively than a young Shaq. Nothing. There aren't too many defensive anchors at Center anymore. Look at how valuable Chandler was for that Mavs team though. Look at how much the Pacers are paying Roy Hibbert. The Center position is going extinct, but it's because all the big men want to be like KG or Kevin Durant. I don't think people necessarily feel that way about the position when there is someone that can play. I just think with how devoid that position is of talent, it's better to have a 6'9-6'10 agile player that can score and defend quicker opponents than just putting some 6'11-6'12 cement footed wafe there just out of tradition. If the talent that arrived in the late 80s-90s comes back then you'll see it become a bigger part of a team. It's undoubtedly a huge asset when your guards can press up because they know if they get beat to the drive a 7 foot monster will stuff their shot.

I think this is an overreaction. I think Rose is just pushing back on the assumption that his return would be after the ASG in Feb. That was the optimistic look that seemed to become a fact especially as AP and Shumpert made their way from the injury. It's clear Rose doesn't seem himself as ready yet so he's trying to break that narrative. He'll be back this year.
