  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 10:44 PM) I honestly don't think he was in on the con, but I think he completely embellished the story as time went on. The unnamed ND player's comments seem to support this. I agree with this. At some point he knew it was fake but saw he was gaining from it and couldn't stop the lies.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 11:24 PM) SI: I can call Stanford and check. They have to have some record or note that she passed. Bet he wishes he would have done that now Eubanks, who directed Stanford's football media relations this season, couldn't find her in the alumni directory and thought it was odd that, on such a small campus, he'd never heard of a student dating Te'o. This was the most glaring sign I missed. I thought that maybe she didn't graduate, so we took any reference to Stanford out of the story. Read More: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-f.../#ixzz2IH58YhFw +++++++++++ He did, and didn't find anything so he removed it from the story. I think he could've ran with this *he was on deadline* but he REALLY should've followed up after on this.
  3. I'm guessing Te'O could scam soxbadger pretty easily.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 09:57 PM) http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-f...nd-hoax-quotes/ ha, I feel for that reporter a little. But man that does come off as very sketchy. How do you know have a bigger story of how you met this amazing girl who changed your life?
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 10:37 PM) I think a lot of the outrage I've seen is because of what ND did to purposely cover this up and also the amount of public effort they put into this vs actual tragedies. Oh I absolutely think this is a strike 3 you're out moment for ND AD. They are dragging that university into the mud.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 10:12 PM) Oh Mr. Klosterman, thank you for always getting it right. Honestly, in my opinion, the best summary of the audacity of public reaction here. I'm not seeing this public reaction you are. Everyone i've seen talk about it, on twitter, et al, very little righteousness in this. I'm actually loving that there are no victims because I feel no guilt gawking at this train wreck.
  7. So, I'm bored at work. Looking at coaches from the saints and raiders from early 00s and miami teams. Wondering if coaches from Spags stint at rams or Jim Bates would come up. I'm wondering if he'll favorr someone with experience at D-Coordinator (even if it's a bad run/average), or go for a green name never given the shot, and has languished as a dline/lb coach.
  8. Does salary cap numbers like that (14.5) include rookie salaries?
  9. BTW apparently it was Sean Jensen who reported that 13 month schedule thing. Azumah just decided to throw out SOURCES when it was already out by an established media.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 08:53 PM) I don't think I am. I think Bears fans are imagining the team has much more cap freedom than it actually has. That's going to make choosing between Melton and an O-lineman hurt. How do you think it'll go if the Bears sign the #10 O-lineman on the board for $3 million and that's the only o-line addition they make before the draft? I'm sure it's somewhere in the middle. I find the NFL salary cap incredible confusing. Seems to be a lot of gimmicks.
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 07:47 PM) It wasn't hacked. It was not the account to begin with. Makes more sense, thanks.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 07:46 PM) See, now whoever is running that twitter account is reveling in what happened to Te'o. If that is Touiasosopa that is just messed up I'm guessing it was hacked.
  13. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 07:09 PM) Isn't that when Gruden was the HC there? So like a Fred Pagac or Mike Waufle, maybe? Just looked that up on wikipedia. Looks like both are still dline and linebacker coaches. Despite a great coach like Fisher picking up Waufle, I have to say I'd be more excited by Hoke (I misspelled earlier), who did such a great job with our CBs.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 07:03 PM) Singletary has really been around a lot of different defenses. Ravens, 49ers, he was ST last year with Minnesota but it isnt as if he isnt watching. And of course the 46. I think Singletary would be a distraction, but I am not convinced that he would be a terrible DC I agree, he's like Tebow. Any Trestman stumbles and the meatballs will be screaming for Singletary.
  15. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 07:55 PM) Calm down, people. After all, it's not like it's the White Sox we're talking about here. Instead, let's talk about how good people think Earl Bennett can be. I think in the right system, he's a 70+ reception guy. Then again, I might be dreaming. I don't see it. I was happy when we signed bennets extension, but now I have major regret. I'd much rather Jeffery be our #2, or we sign a new #2. And if that happens, bennett is our #4 receiver with a nice contract. He needed to step up last year, but I don't see him as anything more than a nice 3rd down option for Jay. I'll say that he seemed like he had the least drops of anyone last year. Really interested who Trestman is friends with for Dcoordinators. Seems like his time at the raiders was his most influential in terms of relationships.
  16. It appears the joke landed! Settle down, this would have gone down for hours because 1) you are the king of pedantic arguments 2) Clearly you were not going to back down that the bears should have hired Trestman as OC and kept lovie, despite the fact that this didn't happen and there's no way of knowing that it would happen. So, let's just move on to talking about things that CAN happen, like who will be our DC, our current HC, and other NFL happenings.
  17. Just a count of hands: There's a lot of cool things going on people want to talk about, how many want to continue down the path of baseless speculation of who the bears could've hired for OC last year, instead of the current staff?
  18. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 06:03 PM) trestman is basically not saying anything. which im fine with. no reason to really spill all of your beans on how you are going to use personnel and who you will fill your staff with. I thought there were interesting bits. He seems like he's going to really micromanage the QB position. It seems like the team of 2013 will revolve around jay cutler.
  19. Jarvis Jones or bust!
  20. I just don't want singletary anywhere. He'll be too distracting.
  21. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 06:50 PM) Wonder what affect Rose had on his decreased numbers and what happens when Rose comes back? It's not just rose, it was the whole team. The passes he's getting now, he's finally a true part of the offense. Before we just expected him to catch the ball and dribble, do a shot. It was disruptive to the flow of the offense. Now he's a part of the offense and his fg% has to be fantastic the last 20 games.
  22. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 06:48 PM) I guess I just dont see why the Bears couldnt try and go out and get a real OC. Not Martz, who is a specialized guy. Just a solid OC who understands football and see what happens. There had to be a bunch of guys who would want to work with Cutler, Forte and Marshall. Thats a good 3 to start with. You don't remember last year? Nobody wanted that job where it wasn't sure how long lovie would last. Nobody wanted the job.
  23. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 06:49 PM) What defensive coordinators are out there for the Bears to hire? Dave Wannstedt? Yes, only Dave Wannstedt is available to hire.
  24. I don't know. I've said this before. But our defense is incredible because it has been so successful despite a bend not break style and an offense that can't control the ball. If we get an offense that can string drives together, our defense can fall back a little if they don't have to deal with so many plays ran against them.
