QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 09:45 PM) Awful job by secondary to continue to get beat deep. Michigan got beat because they can't create pressure with front 4, then had to send the house. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 09:37 PM) Michigan is going to lose this game because they couldn't tackle the QB with him in their arms on 3 straight plays. No guarantee sc can kick a fg. Edit: NVM! -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 04:43 PM) It should have been Hester. They can find a speed burner. Two of the biggest worst plays last year were the result of Knox messing up, Cutlers thumb due to him giving up on a route and Knox breaking his back because he fumbled. He was also constantly running BEHIND the linebackers on those goal lines slants. Any wonder why cutler suddenly cut down on goal line ints? It was losing knox.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 11:36 PM) Its hard though...Peyton could make me calling plays look good. And to be clear, I'd only call plays out of the madden playbook, haha. It's more than that though. He showed tremendous adaptability going from Orton to tebow to manning. The in season tebow switch they did a 180 to be a run first option team on a dime. Then he brings a QB that had been at another team all his life and helps organize everyone on the same page in about 5 games. That's impressive.

Isn't it funny how scouts usually end up being GMs and not coaches? And when coaches do it becomes a miserable failure? There's a reason why GMs coming in usually get to hire their own coach. They hire a guy with a similar style, because those are the players and schemes they think will win games. That's where a coach GM relationship works. acutally I don't even know why i'm arguing this. Show me the situations where giving a coach more power over personnel has worked. It was the downfall of many great coaches.

QUOTE (balfanman @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 08:46 PM) I don't have strong feelings either way on Lovie and have no idea exactly what he was responsible for other than that in professional sports, "if you don't win you're gone". I do wonder though, how much of Cutlers brain is left intact after the last few seasons. His ability to hit a target seemed to get worse and worse this year. Anyone think that all of the concussions have affected him to the point that he isn't a very good quarterback anymore? Maybe, if he could, Emery would be wise to try and trade Cutler and really start over. I think Cutler's accuracy was phenomenal this year. The unfortunate part is the bears did not run plays designed to get people open. There was no thought process that "oh if we drag this receiver here, this should open it up underneath", etc. Jay was completing passes to ridiculously covered receivers over and over again. The one player usually wide open was Davis, who would drop the ball.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 08:37 PM) Based on the 2012 draft why do you feel comfortable with Emery putting together a good team? Or is it based on how great KC is, the team he was director of scouting for? Because with the Bears all he did was draft Jeffrey, the rest of the picks so far are pretty brutal. We will never know whether Lovie could have handled player personnel, what we do know is that the Bears are now being run by a guy who put together the talent for KC, and I am not holding my breathe that they will make the playoffs anytime soon. The answer simply is yes. Lovie has been with this team for 9 years. Emery has been there with one. KC actually has quite a bit of talent especially on the defensive side, as did Atlanta. He was also a scout on the bears prior to 2004, and which were the bears best drafts. But instead you want to give the most important position on a football team to a guy who has never scouted or has any idea how to deal with contracts and budgeting. Great idea.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) The part that makes no sense is that the Bears are basically giving Emery the keys to the castle when he has much less experience than Lovie. If anything I would have thought the Bears should have given Lovie more power (after getting rid of Angelo) and seeing if that actually made a difference. Instead they got a new GM, said he cant fire Lovie for 1 year and you have a clusterf*** from the start. That is the ultimate problem for the Bears. They have no clue what they are doing in the front office. Lovie had to be the longest tenured coach with the least amount of power. I cant imagine that Lovie wanted McClellan in the 1st. The Bears need 1 person to steer the ship and everyone else to follow directions. 2 generals with equal power does not work, the Romans found this out at the Battle of Cannae in 216 BC. Yet almost 2000 years later the Bears are still mucking it up. Giving coaches personnel power just rarely works out. Lovie never seemed very adept at scouting. Phil Emery was hired to put together the best team possible, but had to keep the coach from previous regime. It should be no surprise what happened.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 07:57 PM) It's actually true. I have heard from so many Bear fans that they would rather their team lose so they can finally fire Lovie. They got what they wanted. So far, you've had two people tear up on radio about it and a third about to retire over it. The fans are going to see that grass is not always greener. They want to say that Lovie knew nothing about offense, but yet, he brought in several different OCs and none of them could do anything. You had one of the most heralded offensive line coaches in the league, who also couldn't do anything with these players. Wonder why? The line. Any new coach they bring in, is going to want to upgrade that line. Apparently, Emery believes in continuity on a line, even if it's poo. I bet my account, the Bears do not finish with anywhere the record they finished with this year without that offensive line being vastly different. This wasn't Lovie's fault. That's why the players feel sorry for him. He didn't have a hand in this failure. He could've brought in Chip Kelly, and that offense still would've been terrible. They brought in Cutler's guy(Jeremy Bates), they brought in Mike Martz, an offensive guru who really didn't have a failure on offense anywhere else. Yet, you people state Lovie didn't know offense and all the coaches he hired sucked. Chances are if he brought in Sean Payton and the offense failed here, you would talk about how Payton was always overrated. In the end, the teams execution is the head coaches responsibility. He hired the offensive coordinators. They failed. That's on him. The bears saw numerous players look inept on their offensive unit, only to appear much better on other teams. They were not good at developing the talent they were given, and they were not good executing with the talent given. That's the head coaches job.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 06:16 PM) the tribune has a list of candidates. A couple on the list made me cringe, Caldwell and Gruden being among them. Gruden may still have it in him, but after this MNF experience, I only view him as a caricature anymore, i cant take that guy seriously Lists compiled after 10 minutes of an event, typically not the most thought out.

He definitely deserves another shot at HC. Frankly, he just needs to actually hit up a competent OC, which he didn't find here. But you can't survive after woefully ignoring 1 facet every year. For as disciplined and good at execution as we were on the defensive side (and special teams), we were the opposite on offense. Undisciplined, horrible at execution, and just bad.
-
Hester, considering your drops cost your coach his job (very likely), I'd suggest you do just retire.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 03:23 PM) yes, it does seem very suspicious. i'll check drudge and let you guys know what i find. 11 years to the day after Vince Foster committed "suicide"

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 12:46 AM) How was McCarthy throwing the flag on that any different than Schwartz? They just explained that. Wow he is lucky.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 12:45 AM) Either Jones was down or that's a touchdown, but no way it's a fumble. How was McCarthy throwing the flag on that any different than Schwartz?

Wellp, not looking good.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 30, 2012 -> 09:08 PM) If the Vikings should lose, would you rather go to Seattle or to SF in 1st round? Gotta be to Seattle still, right? Playing in Seattle? Tough place.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 30, 2012 -> 09:11 AM) Yeah...that wasn't a good comeback. The D in that game wasn't there. Having watched the game, the transitional d was lacking, but UCLA was hitting a lot of contested 18 footers, about the least successful shot in the game. The teams were making nba shots all game, it was a real pleasure to watch that game. But I think that pace eventually wore down pressed. Mizzou really needs to find a competent backup at that point. We really needed Dixon for that.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 30, 2012 -> 08:52 PM) Mike Tice must be fired... That last play was a lot closer than anyone seemed to think... That is true. Replay was blurry but he dragged his 2nd foot. Thought the first may have been down. Bang-bang, but not a play you try at that point in game on third down.
-
Gotta hand it to d for that stop.

Just a horrible decision. Horrible coaching.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 07:46 PM) Anyone else excited about watching Thaddeus Lewis start for the Browns on Sunday? Ha, a little bit.

You can only be serious about "reducing the deficit" if you plan on doing it with cuts only. Generating revenue and cuts? That's a god damn pipe dream.
