I find it odd that these great big ten defenses have more points getting scored on them than their offense.

Reid going after the Procedural Filibuster
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 06:14 PM) I'm not saying it doesn't. But in typical Washington fashion, they'll change it with a shortsighted mentality, because it's helping them now, but when it's used against them in the future they'll whine that it needs to be reformed...again. The problem is, they'll have already reformed it...only they didn't reform it in a future proof way, they reformed it in a way that was right for them at THAT specific time. This is what they always do. Who cares? If it's good policy for the country to change it, who cares what the motives were?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 05:21 PM) When was the last time Cutler threw a red zone INT? 2009? You act like we're dealing with 2009 Cutler. We're not. They curiously declined after Johnny Knox went away.

Reid going after the Procedural Filibuster
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 06:08 PM) You say that, but it's true. This isn't the first time, won't be the last time. Is it a good policy or isn't it? "Let's oppose this because we are worried about future hypocrisy". The senate filibuster is horrible, it needs to be reformed.

Taylor Martinez is a huge tool, not sure why anyone would pay attention to him.

I don't know about Reid being a scapegoat. He had a very talented team that underperformed for 2 straight seasons. His skill position players should match up with anyone. He made a horrible choice for DC, and his offense neglected it's great run.

The Democrat Thread
I'm confused about what's happening with SSM Illinois. First edition had on the senator proposing it, saying they were not pushing it thru the lame duck anymore. Instead they are going to try and do it with the new congress. Does anyone know how good the odds are? 3 days ago it seemed like it was a sure thing.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 08:58 PM) The fact he is 60 years old and has not had a head coaching job other than at Temple leads me to believe there is something amiss there. Also emery interviewing all of these guys seems odd. The Atlanta or Dallas special teams coaches are interviewed yet Toab is not considered for the job? If you are the GM and you fire your coach your search should be rather small, as I would think he knows what he wants. He seems to be interviewing everyone. Emery has to request interviews with those other coaches, which I'm assuming is where it leaks. I doubt that same process is done with a coach on staff.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 07:27 PM) liberals' sophie's choice probably SSM because we're currently in a straight-up violation of civil rights and I don't think a state-by-state solution to gun control legislation will be particularly helpful, especially given Chicago's bleed-over into a neighboring state. I agree. For the record, I don't believe this will be an either or, but if I was the republicans I would probably try to deliver SSM votes if gun restrictions delayed.

would you all rather have Same Sex Marriage passed or the proposed gun control legislation?

Time to revisit the 2nd Amendment?
Apparently you can bring up Nazi history, but if the history includes black people, you've delved into white guilt.

Time to revisit the 2nd Amendment?
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 07:22 PM) I realize that, but I'm sick of liberals talking about race. I'm sick of hearing about it. Leave it alone, quit bringing it up like someone is paying you to. LOL

Time to revisit the 2nd Amendment?
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 07:00 PM) Other countries dont really fear their population because their people have all been brainwashed/bribed into the same kind of dogmatic worship of the state. We haven't gotten all the way there in the USA just yet, thank god. They may not have graduating to killing (yet), but they're milling about with wealth redistribution and the liquidation of private property pretty methodically. What an awful world they live in, where they don't have to fear getting killed by a gun. Those slaves to the state. The founding fathers would be rolling over in their graves if they only knew that democratically elected governments would someday reduce gun violence to nothing.

Time to revisit the 2nd Amendment?
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 05:47 PM) The Nazis also built the first real interstate-style highway system. Clearly, they are just another part of the plot! On the other hand, I haven't seen any genocides in Australia, the UK, Canada, Japan, Mexico etc. since they've enacted gun control legislation or gun bans. The only countries in this world are the US and Nazi Germany.

I just can't get past the last 6 years of Grudens career. If he wants to prove himself again I'm not so sure he gets to hop onto a head coaching job right away, at least not in the pros.

The environment thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 03:24 PM) Long but worth your time piece really laying out the research on the connection between Pb exposure, primarily from leaded-gasoline, developmental damage in young children, and the crime wave of the 70's-80's. Probably particularly worth thinking about if you own an older house that might still have some residual Pb contamination or if you're moving into an urban area where the contamination built up over time. Also a message worth remembering in terms of how environmentalist movements may have produced substantial economic gains over time and could continue to do so in the future through cleanup of other contaminants like Hg. I was just about to post this. A teeny reminder, but if you are going to be having an urban garden, make sure to import new soil or have a garden bed.

Reid going after the Procedural Filibuster
QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 03:55 PM) I agree. It would also be nice if they had to speak on something substantive or on subject instead of reciting the Declaration of Independence or recipes. The senate didn't even require that, the mere threat was enough, because the minority doesn't even have to keep much of their caucus there to keep the filibuster going.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) Teddy Bridgewater made a strong case to be a top 10 pick next year. He made some mistakes out of inexperience, but he looked stellar for the most part. His touch on end zone balls was spectacular. Hadn't seen him play until then.

Fiscal Cliff Discussion
QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 08:54 PM) Abstract? I don't see where government is abstract? The only people hurt by this are not government, though we will all feel much pain (for no reason). Who do you think you are sticking it to?

Fiscal Cliff Discussion
QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 06:05 PM) It's like walking into a restaurant knowing you have $10 left on your credit limit and buying a $20 meal and expecting the credit card company to bail you out. Or acting shocked there even is a limit. You have to be pretty stupid to keep doing that. It should be a warning to stop the spending. You have to live within your limits. But some people can't seem to grasp that eventually you have to pay back the loans. It's one thing I really dislike about liberals who want all this stuff but can't seem to grasp that it isn't free. The government should not routinely spend more than what taxpayers send in. The problem is you think defaulting on the debts will show some abstract thing called "government" to live within it's means, but really all you are doing is denying payment to vulnerable old people, people with disabilities, and military. Congress has already authorized these payments, if you want to stop that, stop it where it starts. So what you've accomplished is: teaching "something, er someone?" a lesson, and the price you paid was preventing dependent people and those that protected the country from getting their money.

Debt Ceiling Discussion
QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 06:18 PM) From the D's I've heard that we refuse to negotiate this "cliff," and earlier than that I heard that if they do negotiate, they will have to increase taxes even more to get a Presidential signature. LOL yeah, sure.
