Peter King picks Bears for Super Bowl
bmags replied to Steve9347's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I just hope they haven't wasted this pre-season trying to win games to build hype as opposed to working stuff out that we suck at. -
Tarrantino films are always marketed highlighting the violence in the film, and usually all the violence in his films were highlighted in the previews. He's about dialogue, he's Mamet if Mamet knew how to work a camera. He's not incredibly original, but he can do everything that's been done well. He's like Portillo's. He's like David Bowie, they didn't invent the scene, but they can do it all just as well. So for the people that loved Leone, kurosowa, wilder, whatever all the classics and all the things that made movies, movies, he's a breath of fresh air. He's the anti-neo-realist imo, no it isn't realistic, it's a movie. No, you don't talk like his characters, but at the same time, you talk about the same s*** the characters are talking about.

find me a GM that talks about how their team will suck at the beginning of the season. Who cares, that's how they deal with media. If you believe the generic "how do you feel about your players" answers from people in the organization, then I have a hedge fund to sell you.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 06:54 PM) They are also going to push the most pretencious (sp?) issues until January, unless they get someone to seat Teddy's old seat. They're slowing down because they know if they use reconciliation there's going to be TREMENDOUS backlash and they don't have 60 votes anymore. That's the main reason - they don't have the votes and they are now going to "slow down". Imagine that. pretty sure you mean contentious

Just really bittersweet, I'm ready to move on as a fan, but really enjoyed Thome's presence here, he was a great guy, great player. I am an honorary dodgers fan for you Thome.

now, when you say boil low...

that movie about the assassination of BUsh was Canadian. You can't blame American liberals for it.

QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 09:04 PM) Do you mean blond? A blanche is generally a witbeir (white ale). A blonde is generally considered a "belgian ale." Sort of the catch all belgian style for those that don't fit anywhere else. I don't see a listing for Leffe Blanche, however. Yeah my mistake then. I had it in Belgium at a chip shop the prof we saw there took us to. It was wonderful with the fries but I had the blonde here and it wasn't very satisfying.

I mean, though, the 49ers in the 80s weren't a well-oiled machine? Anyways, Roethlisberger is a pretty underrated in this thread. That guy gets the absolute s*** beat out of him every game, if you put him on some of these competent offenses he'd put up some great numbers. But, yes, Philliip Rivers deserved that cash. I mean seriously you can't think Kurt Warner should be paid more than him, simply the fact that Rivers is so young and so productive warrants more $$$. Rodgers/Cutler/Rivers are the future world beaters at QB for years to come.

What is Leffe Blanche considered?

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 05:32 AM) Glengarry Glen Ross is a man's movie. Every bit of dialouge is fantastic. Every actor is outstanding. Among my favs of all time. just watched the bolded. Loved Pacino in it. WHy did he have to fall off the deep end.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 10:34 PM) Fixed that for ya. Man you missed that irony i guess.

WHY WON'T YOU LET THE TRIAL LAWYERS MAKE PROFITS WITHOUT FORCING THE GOVERNMENT TO POWER GRAB IT AWAY FROM THEM

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) And those high risk surgeries result in pretty high lawsuit claims. It's all a perpetual clusterf*** cycle that needs broken and REFORMED. Yeah, I'm not really against tort reform. At all. It's one of those things I just don't care that much about. I just don't like it being pointed to as the end all be all in the debate.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) Of course. And the 'prestige', family honor, all that crap. He took his brother's seat, to keep it in the family. Probably why they wanted to change the law again so they could appoint another Kennedy to the spot when he died, keep the legacy going. And sure teddy and family had money before that, but trust me, him being a Senator didn't hurt their finances any. Yes to the bolded, but no way he did it for the pay check. I'd take the argument he did it for the power, for sure, but senators don't make that much, and considering their name and education I'm sure he could've made quite a bit more in the private sector. And I doubt the Kennedy's have to work that much, anyhoo.
-
I'll pay my respects to a senator who fought on the right side of a lot of civil rights issues. Ted Kennedy, the man, was deeply flawed, and I won't blame some snide comments aimed at him. But, I'd rather have a flawed man, who killed someone, that was on the right side of civil and social justice, then Jesse Helms. And because when Jesse Helms died I said good riddance, I'm fine with the republicans here doing the same.

QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 12:19 PM) So many people want tort reform until some Doctor, drunk or on drugs, f***s up their operation, then they want everything. I'm not certain what the answer is, but we have established a system of civil awards (re: fines) that based on the severity of the f*** up, can get very expensive. But when someone loses their leg or worse, do to neglect by a Doctor, I'm not certain how much is fair or adequate. Perhaps there are people smart enough to decide in advance how much is fair, but I doubt it. We could have a chart. 35 years old, father of two, needs legs to work, active athlete, loses his leg $250,000. 63 years old, inactive, retired, likes to read, loses his leg, $25,000. Additionally, a lot of states have put forth tort reform measures. Missouri for one, on the healthcare point, it's done nothing to reduce individuals costs. But on my part, on the examples like yours, I think everyone can agree compensation is in order. However, doctors getting sued for making mistakes on high risk surgery, I should like to see some reform.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) SO2 is sulfur dioxide, not carbon dioxide. It's responsible for acid rain. There has been a cap-and-trade tax-and-kill! program in place for that pollutant for a little while now, but it was fought fiercely when it was proposed. You don't hear too much about acid rain these days. yeah, funny part to that, the original solution in the seventies when it was derailed by coal states and people like D Robert Byrd, they got the regulation to be that coal plants had to build their smoke towers x feet high. It effectively passed the buck over to different states and was doing NOTHING. Cap and trade solved this problem.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) I haven't seen anyone use them incorrectly yet. hey.

that's just asking for people to use it incorrectly. I'm in $2,000 of deficit and am running a $40 debt a month.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 03:33 AM) "My Two Vaginas", Thursdays at 9 on SCTV. ahh, I laughed really hard at this.
