  1. The shocking thing is that people are mad at this vanilla list as they name singers that they know the names of.
  2. Waxman's been a hell of a congressman. Congrats to him.
  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 01:01 AM) If someone from STL tried that I'd just laugh. wtf does STL have? they don't leave, so they don't know that their terrible city isn't great. downtown st. louis is a ghost town, nobody lives there they all commute, and yet their public transit sucks.
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) I dunno, it's different certainly, but it's got a earnest and real quality to it.. His lyrics are really what moves people. No questions about In the Aeroplane is one of the finest albums ever made. So, Magnum'll join a list with Dylan, Springsteen, Jon Brion, Colin Meloy and Billy Corgan of people with different voices that just work. Back to this list though. Some lesser know possibilities. How's about : Elliott Smith Stuart Murdoch (Belle and Sebastian) Chris Martin (Coldplay) Ben Gibbard (Death Cab) Tom Chaplin (Keane) The Watkins Siblings (Nickle Creek) Gerry Rafferty (Stuck in the Middle With You, Right Down the Line, Baker Street.) the thing is, is mangums voice is so much more jagged than Dylans. Dylans is odd, but smooth, it feels like the vinyl itself. Mangums is more violent, textured and jagged and can really hurt at points. I love NMH, but, I would never give his voice any awards.
  5. oh man, lost, St louis is disgusting with it.
  6. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 11:30 PM) Difference, I believe it was spread equally across the country, just just those racists rednecks in the south. I'm consistent. What I find funny is suddenly there are only racists in the south. People that dismissed the Bradley effect are real quick to claim the only area of the country that is still racist, or at least racist enough to switch from Kerry to Obama, are four states in the South. That effect could not be spread equally across the country. The effect, btw, is people beinig polled change their answers. Well documented and accepted by every polling expert. I find several assumptions interesting. First off, no matter what Obama does during the next four years, every Dem voter will remain a Dem voter in the next election. If he does not get reelected, it must be because of race. Since Kerry = Obama and the appeal is the same, then certainly Obama = Obama in the next election. So the GOP should just forget about ever winning another election. I guess shocking of all are the racists in Illinois that did not support Braun in getting relected. Again, there couldn't be any other reason to switch. The bradley effect is not accepted by any polling expert I've seen. And further, what a fun hypothesis that racism is spread completely equally throughout the country.
  7. Jeff Mangums voice is horrid.

    Entourage

I actually liked the last episode. I think they are going to switch the show to the main drive being running an ad agency and the entourage now is just vinny and all them hanging on to Ari. But I loved that 'the cavalry arrives' moment with Ari last episode and some real tension, minus turtle's s***ty character. But yeah, you have to remember this was only about a week into shooting, as well.
  9. isn't tom petty just a bob dylan retread in terms of voice?
  10. I busted my eye open on a bathroom door in Belgium after trying absynthe. I don't attribute that to be cause-effect, rather, Belgium doors were heavier than american ones and I am an idiot.
  11. I find it quite funny that someone who was so convinced that the Bradley effect is real and a phenomenon is now claiming that race is not a factor at all in the election.
  12. It doesn't mean anything except he isn't a blind idiot. You know who made a lot of mistakes in his 92 transition team? Clinton. Part of that is he had no one to turn to for previous advice cause the last person to turn to would be Carter who also made mistakes.
  13. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE... what are we up to, 80% old Clinton retreads now on his 50 or so appointments? do you know the difference between transitional team and cabinet?
  14. No, I'm right. Even if the dems get the remaining 3, they'd feel more than confident swaying specter or a few others over to their side for 60
  15. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 09:47 PM) And NSS, I offer you another example. Have you really been missing these for the past year? It could not possibly be that Bush was an idiot and even GOP voters bailed on Bush and voted for anyone else but him, then returned to the GOP? Nope, not one person thought to mention that scenario. It couldn't be that that region, faces economic hardships and a loss of low skilled industry unlike any other area, combined with lots of competition from illegals and McCain had a stricter plan than Obama? Could it be that that industry has strong ties to the mining and coal industries and Obama was much more critical? Naw, must be race. Well, I find the incredible strides you make to say that race still isn't a factor is more laughable.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) The highlighted could be accurate to a degree, and I see what you are saying with the other reasons, but I don't buy any of the first three reasons overall. Especially reason number 2, because if the obscenely biased media coverage had been even a small factor anywhere in this race, McCain would be president. Think less in terms of aims of coverage and think of total coverage. Market was saturated with obama. In congressional races, the incumbent with huge money made typically dominates coverage. That's why in congressional races, if the incumbent is below 50, they say they are in trouble, because undecideds tend to flock to the challenger. With the media saturation of Obama, he, more than the ® was the virtual incumbent in terms of coverage. And I think, looking at the gallup poll, how they had Obama at 52%-41%, with 5% undecideds, and end voting was 52-46%, I think that could be a factor. Had many chances to view Obama and chose to go with challenger.
  17. no that's the opposite of what my point was.
  18. One of the big themes of this election was people wondering, "what effect will race have", now that it's over we are looking at map of a historically racist area (appalachia's through tenn-ark-okl) and see that formerly democrat voters went for republicans. What are some causes? • name rec for mccain, hard to believe after an election this covered. • media ran Obama as incumbent in press • military experience for McCain • generally lesser educated area, more susceptible to negative campaigning. • race But all in all, I think the last factor is the biggest.
  19. rolling stone makes the most terribly boring lists.
  20. this is purely about not wanting to appear partisan and backstabby to a well known democratic senator after that senator was very backstabby. The man doesn't deserve that chairmanship, he did nothing with it. He should be put in the stocks for his lack of oversight on Bush.
  21. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 08:16 PM) Percentage wise, you're absolutely right, which is why I wanted to know the pure numbers as well. black turnout in Chicago was down in some areas. lol. But, there should be an increased turnout amongst all groups considering the % increase raised in VT this year.
  22. The appalachian area is the most racist area of the country. That is my statement.
