Anyone try an energy drink named Cocaine?
I busted my eye open on a bathroom door in Belgium after trying absynthe. I don't attribute that to be cause-effect, rather, Belgium doors were heavier than american ones and I am an idiot.

I find it quite funny that someone who was so convinced that the Bradley effect is real and a phenomenon is now claiming that race is not a factor at all in the election.

Obama's Cabinet and Staff
It doesn't mean anything except he isn't a blind idiot. You know who made a lot of mistakes in his 92 transition team? Clinton. Part of that is he had no one to turn to for previous advice cause the last person to turn to would be Carter who also made mistakes.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE... what are we up to, 80% old Clinton retreads now on his 50 or so appointments? do you know the difference between transitional team and cabinet?

Lieberman Keeps Homeland Security Chairmanship
No, I'm right. Even if the dems get the remaining 3, they'd feel more than confident swaying specter or a few others over to their side for 60

What do these stats tell you
QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 09:47 PM) And NSS, I offer you another example. Have you really been missing these for the past year? It could not possibly be that Bush was an idiot and even GOP voters bailed on Bush and voted for anyone else but him, then returned to the GOP? Nope, not one person thought to mention that scenario. It couldn't be that that region, faces economic hardships and a loss of low skilled industry unlike any other area, combined with lots of competition from illegals and McCain had a stricter plan than Obama? Could it be that that industry has strong ties to the mining and coal industries and Obama was much more critical? Naw, must be race. Well, I find the incredible strides you make to say that race still isn't a factor is more laughable.

What do these stats tell you
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) The highlighted could be accurate to a degree, and I see what you are saying with the other reasons, but I don't buy any of the first three reasons overall. Especially reason number 2, because if the obscenely biased media coverage had been even a small factor anywhere in this race, McCain would be president. Think less in terms of aims of coverage and think of total coverage. Market was saturated with obama. In congressional races, the incumbent with huge money made typically dominates coverage. That's why in congressional races, if the incumbent is below 50, they say they are in trouble, because undecideds tend to flock to the challenger. With the media saturation of Obama, he, more than the ® was the virtual incumbent in terms of coverage. And I think, looking at the gallup poll, how they had Obama at 52%-41%, with 5% undecideds, and end voting was 52-46%, I think that could be a factor. Had many chances to view Obama and chose to go with challenger.

What do these stats tell you
One of the big themes of this election was people wondering, "what effect will race have", now that it's over we are looking at map of a historically racist area (appalachia's through tenn-ark-okl) and see that formerly democrat voters went for republicans. What are some causes? • name rec for mccain, hard to believe after an election this covered. • media ran Obama as incumbent in press • military experience for McCain • generally lesser educated area, more susceptible to negative campaigning. • race But all in all, I think the last factor is the biggest.

Lieberman Keeps Homeland Security Chairmanship
this is purely about not wanting to appear partisan and backstabby to a well known democratic senator after that senator was very backstabby. The man doesn't deserve that chairmanship, he did nothing with it. He should be put in the stocks for his lack of oversight on Bush.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 08:16 PM) Percentage wise, you're absolutely right, which is why I wanted to know the pure numbers as well. black turnout in Chicago was down in some areas. lol. But, there should be an increased turnout amongst all groups considering the % increase raised in VT this year.

The appalachian area is the most racist area of the country. That is my statement.

Obama Removing Prisoners from Gitmo
QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) Interesting, I agree with your entire post. The only disagreement is the timing. I'd prefer he wait to be President and then begin making decisions, after he actually becomes President and has all the info. I can't wait for him to be the new guy. Bottom line. I prefer a leader who gathers all the facts, or at least as many as possible, before making a decision. WMD in Iraq Y'all prefer a shoot from the hip, manage from the gut type of guy. Damn, I thought I was the Texan Unfortunately because of the failure of a president we currently have in office, the legal limbo makes this one of the more stickier solutions he has. I see no reason for Obama's team to not be looking into a safe and fair way to close GITMO down even before he's in office. Bush hasn't had any problems with people doing his job before now, so what's the big deal.

Tidbits from Gammons
QUOTE (kwill @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 04:05 AM) • Ken Williams is one of the winter's most significant wheelers and dealers. He is marketing Javier Vazquez, Bobby Jenks, Jermaine Dye and others as he tries to overhaul the White Sox. The Mets are afraid of the red flag on Jenks, whose strikeout rate has dropped precipitously from 50 in 39 1/3 innings in 2005 to 38 in 61 2/3 innings this past season. And although GM Omar Minaya checked in on Sabathia, it does not mean the Mets will get into a bidding war with the Yankees for the 2007 AL Cy Young Award winner. • Scouts in Arizona for the Arizona Fall League and the White Sox's minor league people are convinced that Gordon Beckham, the eighth pick in the MLB draft this past June, will be Chicago's everyday second baseman by June. I find both being very telling of the whitesox offseason plans as getting everyday centerfield rather than a middle infielder seems to be a priority to williams. Beckham seems to a prospect that is already polished in many ways and will be a major impact in August and September. Swisher deal in my opinion reveals that Williams has no intentions on trading Dye as he only has one year on his contract and Swisher would have been a low cost replacement in right field. Bobby Jenks on the other hand may be dealt as Kenny doesnt believe in paying big money to closers. I could see him spread the wealth elsewhere along with getting prospects back in order to make the whitesox younger. Jenks could be a centerpiece for a trade involving the Giants. Javier may interest some teams as he reliable and could entice some suitors with his talent level. Maybe, if the Braves pull out of the Peavy sweepstakes they could come knocking on Kenny's door. good post, didn't catch this.

Obama Removing Prisoners from Gitmo
Couldn't disagree more, tex. One of the biggest stains on the United States ever, used against us constantly in foreign affairs negotiations and the new guy comes in and stands strong that he will come up with a way to deal with them morally and legally. Every day GITMO remains operating as is, is another disgraceful day to America's reputation.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 01:53 AM) Silverio until proven otherwise should be considered a 20+ year old scrub who was talked up by Wilder & Friends and given a fat contract so our former con-artists could buy new sportscars. Jose Martinez is still legit I'm sure. It's hard to lie about a guy whose father once played in the Major Leagues. People would know. Hopefully Jose rebounds and shoots back up the prospect lists. Silveiro is 20+? I thought he was 17?

Obama's Cabinet and Staff
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) What are Arizona's rules regarding replacing a Senator who leaves for another job/special election? That seat could well be the difference between 59 and 60. requires to pick a senator of the same party.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
wiki Jhonny J. Núñez (born November 26, 1985, in the Dominican Republic) is a North American professional baseball player. He is a right-handed pitching prospect in the New York Yankees organization. Núñez signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2006. He pitched in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League for the GCL Dodgers, where he accrued a win-loss record of 6-0 and an ERA of 1.58 in 7 starts and 3 relief appearances; he struck out 56 batters in 57 innings. The Los Angeles organization recognized Núñez as their top minor league pitcher for the month of July. On August 31, 2006, he was acquired by the Washington Nationals for veteran utilityman Marlon Anderson. In 2007, Núñez pitched for the Hagerstown Suns of the low A-level South Atlantic League. He logged 105⅔ innings in 22 starts and one relief appearance, winning 4, losing 6, and recording a 4.05 ERA. in 2008, Núñez pitched for the high-A Potomac Nationals and AA Harrisburg Senators, converting to relief. On July 31, 2008, Núñez was traded to the New York Yankees for infielder Alberto Gonzalez. He has joined the Yankees AA affiliate, the Trenton Thunder. Núñez is a fastball/slider pitcher with a 94-mph sinker. He has a three-quarters arm slot and can throw a changeup, but it's apparently a secondary pitch.[1] During the offseason, Núñez lives in San Jose de las Matas, Dominican Republic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jhonny_Núñez
