  1. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 12:31 AM) That's pretty much what I was getting at, which makes sense. Like more blue dog democrats will be on his staff. I'm not even saying conservative DEMOCRATS, i'm saying it may be people without party, from the private sector.
  2. I think you are more likely to see conservatives in his cabinet, but I just kind of doubt that members of the republican party would join the cabinet. Obviously people like Chuck Hagel might work, but for the most part I think people would find that disloyal to their party. So in terms of economics, you might fight conservatives in there, but I don't know if they will be conservatives OF the republican party.
  3. I still doubt that our education system can be "re-vamped" at the federal level. Giving more funding for charter schools, fine, but it's using a chainsaw to cut out a paper snowflake. That said, I think people are underestimating Health Care reform. Obama has won convincingly and has a majority. Now think to when Bush 2 gets in office. He won on a highly contested, incredibly close election and did not have a congressional majority. He pushed more of his policies through in that that term, REGARDLESS of 9/11 because the domestic policies had nothing to do with that, than in his second term with the majorities.
  4. I would like to see Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State, but I worry about losing too many quality senators when Obama needs them for that fight.
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 10:24 PM) You know, I think McCain was genuinely hurt by what Lewis said. But Lewis didn't actually call him a racist, he more like gave a warning. Still, yeah, McCain clearly didn't like it. The problem was McCain chose to take the statement that Lewis was comparing him to Wallace as a man, with his policies and everything, when he was speaking to how McCain would sweep into these rallies using heated language and an us vs. them mentality and fueling hate, and then leaving feeling like his hands are clean. Of course this is a intricate analogy, so naturally the press could never get past the face value of McCain=Wallace!! OMG
  6. Come on, Alpha Dog, how can you act like the 77 day period between election and inauguration has ever been different.
  7. Israel probably has quite a bit more to do with their own prime minister situation than Obama. I do think MEdvedev was being an opportunist because the focus was off of Russia, but let's be real. Their aggression would continue regardless. They moved into Georgia while Bush was clearly the leader still, it didn't stop them. They did military exercises while BUsh was in office. He has a pretty "tough" foreign policy.
  8. Jim Edgar was indicted?
  9. Split the difference.
  10. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) There is none, its all relative to the President. It only came into existence with FDR, or Wilson... I forget exactly who. I'm fairly certain it was Eisenhower.
  11. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 08:43 PM) Huge supporter of Boy Scouts of America. Was President of the National Eagle Scout Association. I had the pleasure of meeting him twice and he is the most genuine person you could imagine. I heard a story where after accepting the position he honored a prior commitment he made to attend a camping trip with his son and the rest of the Troop. They were the safest Scouts anywhere that weekend with Secret Service behind every rock. in light of new information regarding Bob Gates, I recommend not putting him in the Sec. of Defense position
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 08:37 PM) Well that's easy. This country has addressed a lot of it's racial problems (as we saw last night), we've adressed a lot of things in regards to giving people with disabilities rights, ageism is something you don't even see as much anymore (as we saw with John McCain getting as far as he did). However, we haven't really done much to address our issues in regards to anti-gay sentiments. I agree. But why? Perhaps its because it's so much more invisible in some ways. Everywhere I've lived and the people I've talked to in those places are severely saddened, kind of taken off guard that this would fail in California , there are such dramatic differences from town to town in terms of gay relations, but it's just hard for me to see how it exists. This is such a scrambled thought but I'm just wondering how the best way is to bring this up. Obama, this is an issue, take it up. And, take a stand for it.
  13. It appears that will happen. I'd like to know more about Bob Gates, he seems to have no ego, or rather, a non-politician forced to work with politicians. Just a man very good at his job that cares about how it's done.
  14. QUOTE (Soxy @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 08:30 PM) Lisa Madigan--AG. I hope not, frankly. I think she's be great, but I want her career path to take a different route.
  15. I will take the chance (b/c nixon made me realize I should) If Obama chooses Summers for Treasury it will literally piss me off as much as FISA capitulation. DO. NOT. CHOOSE. A. PROVEN. FAILURE. WITH. NO. PEOPLE. SKILLS. How about Michael Brown???/green
  16. in the house if you have +1 you are good. The senate is such a clusterf***, on the other hand.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) Technically that is backwards. The government legislated equality, and the people of California voted otherwise. Right, but this is now in their constitution, so it will be the government enforcing inequality. This is such a shadow over last night. How naive I was to think this would get shot down easily.
  18. You said a version of "back" quite a lot in that sentence. I love how Medvedev is so excited to be a puppet.
  19. QUOTE (Soxy @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 08:01 PM) Ugh. This is so incredibly disappointing. Should never ever ever be an issue that is legislated. This is government sponsored discrimination, and I am sick thinking about it. Me too. One step forward, one step back. These are our fellow Americans, how could people do this?
  20. The damage will be done. What a stupid state. Honestly, you won't find a dumber area than SE Missouri.
  21. It'll be interesting pick. I think Jarrett could be right.
  22. Great. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/worl...icle5090077.ece
  23. And we have a brand new P.O.S. in Blaine Luetkemeyer so enjoy him, America. Thanks Missouri, you never...oops, sorry, you always disappoint.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 06:50 PM) That's more something for generals to discuss isnt it? Unless i'm missing your point What does this mean? I'm fairly certain he was referring to transparency. To a degree I think that will be true but it's not like Obama's campaign was an open book to media. I just want accountability. Too many scandals were able to be crushed by Bush hiding behind executive privilege. Breaking the law is no privilege.
