Who Won Debate #2?
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 07:10 PM) honestly i thought both failed. What a terrible, terrible waste of 1.5 hours. Anyone who has heard the names "Obama" and "McCain" knew everything they were going to say tonight. Not a single new piece of information was discussed, except McCain's mortgage bailout, but even that got about 30 seconds in 1.5 hours. Instead both candidates attacked each other a little about not-so-important things, totally failed to fully explain their true positions, and then defended their points by simply attacking the other person again. I'm more pissed at Tom Brokaw. What piss poor questions to ask. 1) they were the same questions as the 1st debate, by and large. It's fine to ask a "what do you think of the bailout and how it will work," but we got the same questions about the economy, healthcare, russia, iran, etc. Boring. 2) Why can't we get some actual character questions? Who are your role models? Why would you be a good manager? How does faith play a role in your life, if at all? What effects your decision making? Or what about other issues? Immigration anyone? And I was angry at the fact that both guys said that every issue that was discussed was the most pressing of our time, or the most difficult task of our generation. Sorry, no. Stop making it seem like the world is going to end if you don't get elected. No s***, not to mention Brokaw's last question was one of the worst questions I could imagine. I think the only interesting question was "do you think the failing economy will end America's role as peacemaker". It wasn't answered very well, of course.

Who Won Debate #2?
What a stupid format. Hey, lets reduce all interaction among candidates and not allow follow ups and act like the crowd is interactive when in fact they might as well just be the moderator asking the question. That's informative! That's entertainment! Won't vote, wish I hadn't watched. Only enjoyment was how badly McCain's jokes bombed.

It's amazing how some people can just look at numbers and understand them so much better than others. He also understands polling theory so well. Guy is amazing.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 06:23 PM) I'm sure this stat/polling site has been posted. But I thought it was cool. And the guy running it (Nate Silver) might be familiar to those of you who follow baseball stat stuff. fivethirtyeight is incredibly informative.

Scarier, to me, is the crowd reaction. When you are villifying the other side as a terrorist socialist outsider who doesn't believe in the U.S., is it a surprise the reaction to him will get more violent?

2008 General Election Discussion Thread
Why this heated language is scary (From Washington post http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...8100602935.html ) (snippits) Barack Obama, she told 8,000 fans at a rally here Monday afternoon, "launched his political career in the living room of a domestic terrorist!" This followed her earlier accusation that the Democrat pals around with terrorists. "This is not a man who sees America the way you and I see America," she told the Clearwater crowd. "I'm afraid this is someone who sees America as imperfect enough to work with a former domestic terrorist who had targeted his own country." The crowd replied with boos. McCain had said that racially explosive attacks related to Obama's former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, are off limits. But Palin told New York Times columnist Bill Kristol in an interview published Monday: "I don't know why that association isn't discussed more." Worse, Palin's routine attacks on the media have begun to spill into ugliness. In Clearwater, arriving reporters were greeted with shouts and taunts by the crowd of about 3,000. Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric's questions for her "less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media." At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, "Sit down, boy." The reception had been better in Clearwater, where Palin, speaking to a sea of "Palin Power" and "Sarahcuda" T-shirts, tried to link Obama to the 1960s Weather Underground. "One of his earliest supporters is a man named Bill Ayers," she said. ("Boooo!" said the crowd.) "And, according to the New York Times, he was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, 'launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and our U.S. Capitol,' " she continued. ("Boooo!" the crowd repeated.) "Kill him!" proposed one man in the audience. Palin also told those gathered that Obama doesn't like American soldiers. "He said that our troops in Afghanistan are just, quote, 'air-raiding villages and killing civilians,' " she said, drawing boos from a crowd that had not been told Obama was actually appealing for more troops in Afghanistan. "See, John McCain is a different kind of man: He believes in our troops," she said.

Don't know yet. Reminds me of when the Latin Kings tried to act like they were all about helping out their fellow Kings, while they were killing people.

AJ should've told Gavin to ignore the runner, in addition it was just a terribly managed inning. Great season, guys. But our approach at the plate has been terrible, and OC is a dead out along with Thome right now. Just too much to overcome 4 runs.

They aren't giving him the calls for his curveballs, so he can't throw them on a 3-2 count.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 06:55 PM) Nah. The one area McCain had the supposed edge in, foreign policy, turned out to be a draw. At worst I say Obama ties him in one of the next 2 debates. No game changers left after that. But with who it counted, independents, Obama won by like 20 points. If McCain wants a chance at winning the debate, he needs to come off as less contemptful for his opponenent.
