  1. They aren't shutting down the golf channel or olympic network, so I'm pretty sure this is just consolidating and getting rid of a cost, not getting out of sports in general. Regardless if it's NBC Sports, it appears Comcast/NBC Universal will keep a 25% stake, and it will probably still be called NBCSN
  2. This is silly. You aren't getting "what he'd get in free agency four years in advance". If Giolito was who he is today and hit free agency at age 29, he would not get a 1 year, (let's say) $25 million deal. He may get a multi year deal worth maybe 5 years 125 million, where his age 30 season is expected to be his most productive, and age 34 season least productive, but it allows them to allocate and plan for that long term. You also get: - Cost certainty of his arb numbers for next three years - Guaranteed control for four years. But if you may as well just wait and sign him as a free agent, you are going to need to give him a lot more years, a lot more money, and pay him a lot more for the years he is MUCH more likely to be worse because of aging. And if you want to talk about things hard to get rid of - it's a lot easier to get rid of an expensive underperforming pitcher than it is an expensive underperforming hitter. Yet they were fine paying Robert and Moncada "free agency" money for just another year.
  3. I think unless we see that severe cases occur post vaccination I'm not too worried. If all that happens is we solve 99% of all covid cases sending people to the hospital, that seems like a win, and then hopefully we crush the virus in next update.
  4. So he's right if you believe that the worst thing that could happen is that you have waste on your roster in your worst case scenario, requiring you to spend more to compensate, or eat some cost to lower the burden. But he does not consider it a bad thing to happen to lose an incredibly productive player for nothing and likely overpay for less production and be a worse team. It's also bad to lose a productive player when you are ostensibly trying to win! But if you gave Jerry two possibilities: Win a world series every year for the rest of your life or Be able to dissolve the player union Don't tell me he wouldn't be this meme!
  5. I think the regional networks are completely separate.
  6. speaking of...did we ever get the new sox tv deal number?
  7. Engel ain't no slap hitter boys! .182 iso in 2020 it's REALLLLL
  8. I'm kinda in between on this. He is a better player. LaStella is better for the white sox. Profar had an elevated Babip last year, I'm not sure I buy the bat vs. Righties, and his 2019 numbers vs. righties were much worse than vs. lefties. He's not good defensively, and can't play SS. But we paid 3.5 mill for leury and that wasn't picked up because of his outfield play. He is the only real SS insurance we have. (don't bim teckham me).
  9. speaking of things that mean nothing.
  10. Sox should look at a piggy back of Jimmy Nelson/Cahill. Nelson has a 60% likelihood of not pitching but should he be healthy and you have a full rotation, he can move to bullpen.
  11. Illinois separates the LTC doses and the state is only at 40% of their allocation. The LTC is worse, but look at this line from the oak park lead on vaccinations: “As the pool of those eligible to be vaccinated grows, individuals will have to be patient as we methodically work through the state phases and the intricate guidelines within them. this town is 1 mile wide! They are lucky half this town works at a hospital and getting vaccinated through there. They wouldn't be able to vaccinate that many with 4 years time otherwise.
  12. That's nonsensical to me that they could absorb Marco Gonzales salary with just heuer/madrigal non-salaries and still sign a LHH but we can only sign Cahill. So I choose to NOT PLAY
  13. It's "political" in that it's the prototypical collective action problem.
  14. It's mind boggling. Wouldn't be so bad if it was just a REPORTING lag, but unless it's a very smooth lag where Monday-Friday are elevated equally it does not appear that we get a big back log on monday. Also I'm sure it's obvious but the numbers above are from IL. And what makes me even more crazy is the eligible groups right now are for places (long term care, hospitals) that are 24/7 anyway!
  15. I would pick A but also *whispers* Cahill did pretty good stuff and just worked under Katz
  16. This is what makes me so annoyed about Pace / Nagy. They didn't just "miss on a qb" and that's what's wrong. We missed on a qb and have extraordinarily limited options to fix that achilles heel of an issue, that is apparently so bad it's tainting Nagy and Pace's job performance. The Jets "missed on a QB" and are very likely able to fix that with either trading surplus picks or drafting their favorite among Wilson/Fields/the field. The Bears can "fix" their QB problem by stripping the team down to its studs, its ability to build cheaply around him down to nothing, and give him a team marginally better than what he left.
  17. I think some posters on this board think some of these people like Hector as littlefinger, plotting every move and just giving us one more crumb to figure out the puzzle when really their just smashin that retweet when it feels good.
  18. 44000 doses were reported administered yesterday. If we could hit 44k/day we'd be at a 30k/day 7 day average even with no weekends. The most interesting numbers this week will be how bad the weekend dropoffs are with the new stations.
  19. Dude also did it during one of the most brutal offensive eras in modern baseball. It's so sad when this happens, realizing a guy that went through it all can't come on tv for an interview one last time. So nice knowing we can hear their stories.
  20. I appreciate everything the BA guys did for this list. I've really moved to 1) Keith Law and then 2) BA for my prospect info (non-sox specific, FS #1!). But I really think you could throw out the rankings for this one. The midseason update is going to be the most interesting one in years, and should probably shake this one on its head. This list is really 1) did we get to see and verify any of these players make strides in instructs or 2) do we happen to know anything that should cause X player to drop from 2 years ago? There is going to be so much learned at that A / A+ level.
  21. I think this is true but man if I was a player and I had a deal anywhere close to my target I'd probably take it given the horrible relationship between the MLBPA and owners right now.
  22. Yesterday 123 people died of COVID in Illinois, as it opens up more and more regions despite the new strain. On the other hand, I used Grubhub, a company started in Chicago, to deliver wings. So, I don't know, I guess it's actually a great day.
  23. I was hoping you were trolling instead of something this reductionist. Criticizing the US governmental response to the coronavirus should not need to be paired with a compliment of general US governance. It is actually a good thing that US citizens should expect the best from their government, and not stare failure in the face and say "well, on the other hand I enjoy my local creek". Vietnam is one of the most beautiful countries in the world with wonderful food, incredibly generous people and great street fashion. Its governmental response to COVID was genuinely extraordinary. Would I rather be a Vietnamese citizen instead of an American? No. Would I rather the Vietnam government instead of the US government? No. Nobody here would. And nobody in this thread for months felt a need to bring in these statements because it really isn't relevant or necessary to couch criticism of the government's COVID with perspective that not everything ever is also bad. That is until you showed up with this argument. So let us all welcome tex775.
  24. Mainly this is a covid brain issue not knowing what day it is but I am just kinda pumped to watch Lamelo and get Williams back. When did they play rockets? Monday? Did a game get canceled?
