  1. "Multiple sources told The Athletic that Kopech has not been deemed a high-risk individual for the COVID-19 pandemic and will thus not receive salary nor accrue service time for the 2020 season. When he reports to spring training in 2021, he will do so with one season and 41 days to his name, at least five years away from free agency." "Sources indicate that an abbreviated three-week ramp-up period cast doubt on Kopech’s ability to be properly ready for the season. That lingering question and the uncertainty about his role in an abbreviated 60-game campaign factored into his decision to pass up what would’ve been his first season back from Tommy John surgery. Of course, there’s also a deadly pandemic going on, and while Kopech himself is not medically high-risk, it does not make him immune from larger family health concerns when weighing whether to commit to a plan of persistent travel as COVID-19 cases continue to climb in most states. It’s a decision that’s focused on the long-term for Kopech, though it comes at a time when the White Sox are compelling in the short-term for the first time in years. It’s been easy to imagine Kopech being stretched across the schedule as a multi-inning super-reliever helping the club edge ahead in a sprint to win the AL Central. Even without a clear role, Kopech is Kopech and he could help any team in any fashion." https://theathletic.com/1922278/2020/07/10/why-is-white-sox-prospect-michael-kopech-sitting-out-the-2020-season/
  2. We like, literally saw 60 major league innings of Burnes dominating MLB hitters en route to a cy young finish last year. We still don't know if Kopech can command his pitches or if his secondary stuff will locate well enough to be effective. He had like a month of showing that 2 years ago in AAA. And the response will be "he threw 101 so he's back". Back to what? He was never finished. He's got a great fastball. I hope it translates. It may very well not, no matter how alpha he is.
  3. We talking about the guy that opted out for reasons not to do with covid last year?
  4. I feel like Brantley is going to have a Carlos Beltran like aging. His profile is good for aging as a bat.
  5. As? I'd put Twins over them. As have a lot of production to reproduce.
  6. Go Toronto! Very interesting to see how that team moved from the AA/Bautista years. Shapiro is good at what he does.
  7. Also according to fathom I’m allowed to keep drinking this rumor for another 30 hours
  8. I'm a big fan of adding players to what we have that are all-star level, and not just "man if we just get 4.5 ERA out of them we'll be good". This is a tricky trade because it potentially swaps out part of existing talent, but I'm all in on the rumor. This guy is a stud next year and the years after. A rotation of Giolito, Burnes, Lynn, Keuchel, (remaining guy) is a group that will piss on the twins offense and help us win the division rather than not lose it. And he'd be around for years.
  9. Ha, yeah we'll have quite a few examples this year.
  10. I’m with @fathom that if we trade Madrigal I’d want Wong. My love for La Stella is for the bat. It’s a great complementary piece. But we have a lot of ground ball pitchers so I don’t want to sacrifice that part of the infield.
  11. Ha, for people who weren’t on at the time the first page probably looks so weird but I thought I was going to get flamed for reading too much into our foodie burners.
  12. That kinda surprises me with that pitching staff
  13. I don’t understand why people think this contract is stupid
  14. Really hard to associate rosenthal with anyone other than Ken. Thought you were saying it was picking up steam with Ken and then realized
  15. Just in case Stearns also reads the board to make decisions: No! Not Madrigal! He is Nellie Fox, please take our other terrible prospects like Vaughn! I wouldn’t do Madrigal for Burnes straight up. If Hahn offered that, I know they couldn’t turn it down. Don’t do it Hahn!
  16. Yeah I just edited after seeing he actually meant he’s better than giolito
  17. I think what people think of as stuff will vary. Giolito gets a lot of help out of his height and delivery. Hitters talk about how his change isn’t Johan Santana’s they just can never pick it up vs his fastball. Burnes has the pitches I think of more in terms of stuff, but it’s also a lot of break instead of drop which usually isn’t my fav. But it looks fun.
