  1. Man remember when the Sox were taking laps because they added salary in December? Where do we think they’ll end up in added salary? 12th?
  2. If this is where we’re at I sure wish we could have made the Lynn trade without Dunning because damn if our depth doesn’t look as garbage.
  3. Wow definitely was thinking sonny gray big diff there
  4. I think we should open our mind up to the idea if Zach had been placed on competitive teams he’d have been much more accelerated with playmaking and off ball. But the last three years he’s been on dumb teams that just watched him anyway.
  5. It had premiere league which was a pretty big get.
  6. They aren't shutting down the golf channel or olympic network, so I'm pretty sure this is just consolidating and getting rid of a cost, not getting out of sports in general. Regardless if it's NBC Sports, it appears Comcast/NBC Universal will keep a 25% stake, and it will probably still be called NBCSN
  7. This is silly. You aren't getting "what he'd get in free agency four years in advance". If Giolito was who he is today and hit free agency at age 29, he would not get a 1 year, (let's say) $25 million deal. He may get a multi year deal worth maybe 5 years 125 million, where his age 30 season is expected to be his most productive, and age 34 season least productive, but it allows them to allocate and plan for that long term. You also get: - Cost certainty of his arb numbers for next three years - Guaranteed control for four years. But if you may as well just wait and sign him as a free agent, you are going to need to give him a lot more years, a lot more money, and pay him a lot more for the years he is MUCH more likely to be worse because of aging. And if you want to talk about things hard to get rid of - it's a lot easier to get rid of an expensive underperforming pitcher than it is an expensive underperforming hitter. Yet they were fine paying Robert and Moncada "free agency" money for just another year.
  8. I think unless we see that severe cases occur post vaccination I'm not too worried. If all that happens is we solve 99% of all covid cases sending people to the hospital, that seems like a win, and then hopefully we crush the virus in next update.
  9. So he's right if you believe that the worst thing that could happen is that you have waste on your roster in your worst case scenario, requiring you to spend more to compensate, or eat some cost to lower the burden. But he does not consider it a bad thing to happen to lose an incredibly productive player for nothing and likely overpay for less production and be a worse team. It's also bad to lose a productive player when you are ostensibly trying to win! But if you gave Jerry two possibilities: Win a world series every year for the rest of your life or Be able to dissolve the player union Don't tell me he wouldn't be this meme!
  10. I think the regional networks are completely separate.
  11. speaking of...did we ever get the new sox tv deal number?
  12. Engel ain't no slap hitter boys! .182 iso in 2020 it's REALLLLL
  13. I'm kinda in between on this. He is a better player. LaStella is better for the white sox. Profar had an elevated Babip last year, I'm not sure I buy the bat vs. Righties, and his 2019 numbers vs. righties were much worse than vs. lefties. He's not good defensively, and can't play SS. But we paid 3.5 mill for leury and that wasn't picked up because of his outfield play. He is the only real SS insurance we have. (don't bim teckham me).
  14. Sox should look at a piggy back of Jimmy Nelson/Cahill. Nelson has a 60% likelihood of not pitching but should he be healthy and you have a full rotation, he can move to bullpen.
  15. Illinois separates the LTC doses and the state is only at 40% of their allocation. The LTC is worse, but look at this line from the oak park lead on vaccinations: “As the pool of those eligible to be vaccinated grows, individuals will have to be patient as we methodically work through the state phases and the intricate guidelines within them. this town is 1 mile wide! They are lucky half this town works at a hospital and getting vaccinated through there. They wouldn't be able to vaccinate that many with 4 years time otherwise.
  16. That's nonsensical to me that they could absorb Marco Gonzales salary with just heuer/madrigal non-salaries and still sign a LHH but we can only sign Cahill. So I choose to NOT PLAY
  17. It's "political" in that it's the prototypical collective action problem.
  18. It's mind boggling. Wouldn't be so bad if it was just a REPORTING lag, but unless it's a very smooth lag where Monday-Friday are elevated equally it does not appear that we get a big back log on monday. Also I'm sure it's obvious but the numbers above are from IL. And what makes me even more crazy is the eligible groups right now are for places (long term care, hospitals) that are 24/7 anyway!
  19. I would pick A but also *whispers* Cahill did pretty good stuff and just worked under Katz
  20. This is what makes me so annoyed about Pace / Nagy. They didn't just "miss on a qb" and that's what's wrong. We missed on a qb and have extraordinarily limited options to fix that achilles heel of an issue, that is apparently so bad it's tainting Nagy and Pace's job performance. The Jets "missed on a QB" and are very likely able to fix that with either trading surplus picks or drafting their favorite among Wilson/Fields/the field. The Bears can "fix" their QB problem by stripping the team down to its studs, its ability to build cheaply around him down to nothing, and give him a team marginally better than what he left.
