  1. I continue to think the problem is people are only responding to a generic "vaccine". It's a hypothetical. If J&J comes out with it and its available in march of next year, the data looks good and gets a lot of buy-in, you will see survey results change. If some vaccine comes "out" before november, people are going to be skeptical of the data.
  2. rookies make big impacts every year.
  3. forbes.com/sites/maurybrown/2020/10/04/mlb-sees-local-tv-and-streaming-viewership-up-over-4-for-2020/#6985d3d63dac Sox outdrew Boston Red Sox, Washington Nationals and Cardinals in viewership. Hopefully Todd Ankin had to pay up.
  4. Yeahhh no Jack is definitely going to give us his diagnosis on how Moncada has recovered in every game thread next year plus a couple individual threads.
  5. What’s the opposite of “a pleasure to watch”
  6. The perfect DH in terms of improving our weaknesses may well be Tommy La Stella I’d we can convince him. Just to add to this, he is a low K% guy with a 130+ WRC+ vs RHP
  7. Not saying Bauer isn’t, but there will be a lot of suitors for him and we can’t guarantee we get him. The yanks may very well throw around cash. It would be a hilarious fit, if Bauer’s gone that’s where I’m saying don’t force it.
  8. I don’t disagree but I also don’t want to force it and pay for a #2 as a #1. Get upper average depth and wait for one to be available (and develop the hell out of our prospects to make sure we have pieces of its via trade)
  9. Also: I think we should really consider Odorizzi this year
  10. I think this is right - but the added benefit is the outfield free agents next offseason are excellent. I am more in tune with some calls last year for some modest players. More than impact, balance. RF needs to be good v RHP, but also would help to be higher OBP or at least sub 20% k rate. A team worth watching is ATL, they made a surplus of OF this year and have two prospects worth moving in or trading. There will be odd men out. We also may see a better than typical number of players not see their options picked up.
  11. What the hell is with all of the national writers acting like the Padres won a World Series?
  12. this is exactly right. It's more complicated than people are making it out to be, and I think it is relative to the type of pitchers they targeted.
  13. if I'm a person being asked this question about any other team, I would shrug my shoulder at any manager being fired except probably cash and francona (get well).
  14. I agree with this but also struggle with it. The job was not easy this year, and taken as a whole we got a LOT out of very young bullpen pieces. You had 2 pitchers come up who had just been throwing fake games and asked to take a lot of starts Rick has supplied a lot of poor command guys, some with exceptional stuff. They will have a high flame out rate. He couldn't get some great arms in rodon, lopez, and looking like Cease to find any control. Makes me nervous for Kopech. So it's really hard to judge. I agree, it doesn't feel like he had a good year. But I don't know really how much blame lies where. The scouting staff/dev/hahn do seem to have had some success finding pitchers with good sinkers or changeups. I think they should lean into that a bit more at least on the major league market while they tweak their power arm development.
  15. the best thing that Adolfo and Rutherford can do is play great and become trade pieces for bullpen/5th starter help
  16. Didn't say it was their best chance, but it was A chance, and if we marginalize every chance we get in the next decade because "lol this team isn't one piece away" each year then yes you will have a lot of first round exits at best. B
  17. Ah yes, only make a move of improvement when you have absolute certainty that it will win you a championship...so never. Thinking a #3 pitcher is going to take you from 72 to 92 wins is a lot different than having a playoff spot secured with a month in the season to go. You know what you don’t have certainty over? That Abreu or Anderson will ever be this good again. That our bullpen will be this good. That Giolito will be. This shtick of always forcing every thing into a samardjiza framework is just a different version of greensoxs hero worship gimmick.
  18. The Sox shouldn’t ever add to their team because Adam Dunn and Jeff Samardjiza sorry everyone wrap it up and go home.
  19. The good news for everyone is I am available to give the white Sox my unassailable opinions this offseason (if needed).
  20. What a treat in a miserable year. Love this team, here’s to the next decade.
  21. The season is down to ... uh lol sorry miscounted
