  1. Having lived through Adam Eatons 2016, I find your claims specious.
  2. The cardinals just made playoffs on backs of a huge defensive improvement. There’s also no guarantee that a player going into his age 33 season like Calhoun maintains his modestly above average offense.
  3. Yeah I think people are way too presumptuous they will decline. If they are making a run at Cole maybe they shed cost prior and just plan on Addel?
  4. Isn't Betances available this offseason? We are pretty good at healing torn achilles, maybe give him a 2 year deal and make a 2021 play.
  5. Is Nimmo really the "dream" or just a realistic upgrade?
  6. Didn’t I see ATL playing New York last night? Did they have a back to back during preseason?
  7. The only prominent “local guy” we heard some smoke around recently was Schnell.
  8. I thought the season started today for some reason. Boo another preseason game.
  9. Moustakas at 2b then shifting to DH is one possibility. The other is Leury, in-house. Defense-wise, jose iglesias could be cheap.
  10. I know the tool is finally working right when I am struggling to make a true super offseason and stay under $160 mill (which is already $40 mill over where I'd expect it)
  11. but opting in guarantees his salary. Depends on his priorities. I think it's interesting for sox either way as it forces boston into some very weird territory if he opts in.
  12. I think debate will heat up on JDM when people know he's available.
  13. I disagree. I know he was ineffective after injury, but I was surprised how much even pitchers with TJ were getting in offseason - and he's only 28 and had a history of effectiveness.
  14. And colin mchugh / wood getting unlikely small contracts.
  15. If we are going to spend $100 million in the offseason I'd rather not still enter season with Calhoun in RF.
  16. I made an update to include that. FWIW I have 8 mill for pre-arb, 15.8 for existing salaries, 16 for Abreu and 25 million for tendered and that gives me 64.8.
  17. Yeah, We just got burned for this with Jay, but I do like how Gardner gets on base. This team also needs a better mix of guys who can take a walk while not striking out 30% of time. But, at his age you never know when contact will crater so much it won’t matter. I still like him though, if next year is going well but Gardner isn’t, low cost trades would be available. As long as we are looking at stop gaps he is a one I like.
  18. I’m pretty sure Yonders buyout goes on the 2020 salary books at least in terms of the luxury tax calculation. He appears on spotracs 2020 salaries, but it’s possible that gets triggered when he’s DFAd
  19. I think this is my fault, I was summing up the wrong column in the spreadsheet I made. It’s corrected on the main one now but if he copied it before it would still be summing up 2019 salaries.
  20. My other pet theory is owners (including JR) may try to make a shoe of spending more this offseason to make a less contentious CBA negotiation.
  21. True, I guess my point is worrying that the dropoff in price for those guys may not be proportional to what people would expect based on their talent/track record. It happens in FA, but I could see a bunch of teams assuming they can't get Cole/Stras, blow up the prices of tier B, and then the market for Cole/Stras is 2 teams (like last year) where thye sign in Feb but still end up with around their asking price.
  22. I'm a little worried that every team will do this and the market for Wheeler/Bumgarner spooks Hahn & Co.
  23. Ok we are fixed. Sad, the new max pitching is quite more modest and still puts us at 125 mill. Thanks @Chicago White Sox !
