  1. Sox saved 500k. Cole is ours.
  2. It is truly funny. Beautiful financial engineering.
  3. You'd probably be looking at converting current bullpen pieces for nimmo (bummer)
  4. Yeah, playoffs where you can show off as a multi-inning reliever/stopper like Hader certainly are getting paid, in part because they so rarely get to show that off in the regular season.
  5. Why is that? Because the luxury tax escalates for consecutive seasons. If they spent last year, they would have been less able to this year - a year where a number of contracts began to expire, and then ellsbury expires next year. They are in a much more manageable position to dip in a few years even with another monster contract.
  6. Exactly. I love this cute putting our heads in the sand and screaming that the market will work in Sox favor but the Yankees dipped under the luxury tax so that they could jump back over it with fewer penalties. And they’ll keep doing that dance.
  7. Yet Corbin was bid up to $140 million. Corbin has he been in this class would be considered close to wheeler, and there are many more bidders.
  8. This push of the second tier guys into the first tier contract territory was what I worried about. I’d go harder after tier 1. Lots of big contract pitchers in the World Series, many of them moved after their big contract. Good pitchers are a better investment then Steve stone indicates.
  9. Kershaw, Jensen
  10. Happy for nats. Goes to show you don’t need some aggressively analytical front office to win a WS still, but do need super talented and competent decision makers.
  11. I did not hear this. Thought it was all about how DD did not set them up for future.
  12. I just want to point out that OP asked who we would prefer absent worrying about cost or feasibility.
  13. Easily Cole, but glad Strasburg got to remind everyone how good he is when he can play.
  14. Worse - setting up the sox in position so that they can claim grievance against system in order to rally owners to a draft.
  15. That’s ridiculous. The guy has been available for three straight offseason, and traded once, and you think he’ll be cheap this year, yet we need to act like this is rare? the team that signed him, did so for 2b, yet nobody thought that he could?
  16. Robin lopez looked completely washed up in October last year then ended up one of the best players on the team. It’s early.
  17. If Lavine wants to know why nobody thinks he’s a winning player he should watch the last 4 minutes on repeat. Going for selfish rebounds while fighting against teammates, taking horrible shots early in clock, losing his guy routinely. Complete ass.
  18. I’m going to stop thinking any Chicago team is good.
  19. I have not kept up on who we need to protect this year.
  20. Moustakas, for instance, was available last year, and the year prior. And he’s available this year, and is cheap despite being a rare, valuable commodity.
  21. If Vaughn is that good you can just trade JDM.
  22. Here's the thing for me, a Moustakas is available every year, pretty much every month outside August/Sept/October. Stretching trying to make sure every roster has a stable chance of 2 WAR is a fools errand to me because you just as often end up having spent resources on several replaceable players. Go get some really good things, and if needed you can send them off next year becasue they will still be somewhat wanted. You aren't going to get truly screwed on JDM for 3 years, just like you won't get screwed with Mous.
  23. I didn't say Nimmo would be low to acquire. His literal price tag is likely to be low, however.
  24. You'd have to trade for a Nimmo Regardless, to make it work trading for a cheaper OF that is on the outs due to depth or questionable pedigree (Tauchmann)/Rockies. Both require needing idiosyncrasies from those front offices. This is where we should probably get comfortable with Mazara being the addition.
