  1. And also when push came to shove, this wasn't really a crowded class they were a part of, whose to say the next one is as favorable?
  2. Best possible breaking of story would be Manny just there when all players report.
  3. It’s also playing with a team that has been determined to be opaque in its direction
  4. Sure but it wouldn’t have been this bad signing people hype it up to be, and the contract is not that hard to move has the Mets not metsd him
  5. I still don’t think signing Cespedes in 2016 would have been bad. If the Sox wanted to compete in 2016 which they claim they did, he was clearly necessary (that was born out). Obviously signing him to the 1 year 2016 deal would have been ideal, but maybe away from the Mets brutal injury luck, their insane need to play him in CF so much, maybe the Sox could have gotten more out of him.
  6. Tim is so electric on the basepaths I just want to see him on there more often
  7. Glad to see this after the very strange interviews he has had while out of work, hopefully is feeling better mentally.
  8. This is the most sensible roster construction they’ve had in years (Hoiberg deserves this but whatever at this point). Getting a big upgrade at PG and a star and it would be a good team with enough assets to go in position to land a top 25 guy if one was traded. If they can change out the FO, things could get better quick.
  9. I 100% believe the yanks never even discussed money and years, and don’t believe this report at all.
  10. This looks fun https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/fans/speed-pitch-challenge can anyone beat my 60 mph ?????
  11. The bulls have thrown out a small lineup with LM at 5 and porter at 4, are running the floor and playing with pace and...look really good.
  12. I posted something a while back in this 75000 post thread but I think any union aims must be considered to be more likely to worry about the fact that only like 50% of free agents found jobs than worrying about top level numbers for Machado. It's very unlikely that any cba changes may increase the individual contracts of Harper or Machado as much as juicing the low-level, mid level markets to get jobs.
  13. I've still mentally set a deadline for feb 19. If it goes beyond JD that will be torture each day. But at least there will be actual (fluff) baseball news daily!
  14. I don't know why that's frustrating. The other way to read it, that we've already talked about, is that they aren't losing any money by waiting, the sox and phills aren't going anywhere, so they will wait.
  15. He's 21, he's in kanny. According to futuresox he's an incredible defensive catcher but can't hit for a lick.
  16. I don't think that's the case anymore since Mets already traded Kelenic.
  17. To add to that, here is Heyman I think the white sox and phillies like both players, because they are both good. So sometimes it comes out that their focus is on different ones. But highest likelihood is sox are more targeted toward machado and phils toward harper.
  18. Teams would (still) pay more to then end of the deal just to get the peak production that would be available for the age 25, 26 seasons. What sucks is when a pujols is only available starting in the 30s. edit: also, I don't find value per war as anything other than hypothetical. It has not been very predictive in upcoming markets, more descriptive for past ones.
  19. The thing about basketball fans is they just like watching basketball. Where baseball fans don't get it because their enjoyment (necessarily) is tied through the lens of a single team where their winning and losing is the entire game. I get that soxtalk posters think that the NBA structure is the problem, because it couldn't be their personal preference for which sports they like!, but truly, the nba is actually very popular. It's an amazing fact that few inside this forum can believe.
  20. Cool, I hope they are then tired of getting the first 6 years of a players career on cheap, non-guaranteed contracts.
  21. I know others disagree, but this does feel like what collusion would look like. By that I mean owners telegraphing what their high offers will be privately to discourage teams from jumping into mix with bids that will only serve to raise the number the player gets; because that team will know they'll be outbid. But on the other hand I think that it's more likely that while low, teams don't often plan for 200 mill signings, see this as a low number but especially didn't plan for 250 mill signings, and already moved on before it was clear the bidding wouldn't be as high as thought.
  22. I mean sure, but the player has an opinion too. So if the player doesn't care about limiting the phillies long-term risk, then he can ask to remove the stipulations that do that in order to beat the white sox offer. When competing offers truly get on the table the team may have to start compromising with their own interests to get a deal done to the players interests. We also don't know that any of what you are saying is in those team interests is what they are personally vying for with the player, so there's no reason that should be reported. And they report on "beating offers" because its succinct and probably closer to accurate than what you described.
  23. Watching how Ujiri has evolved the raptors from their original core, and how the clippers are handling their rebuild is a pretty stark contrast to how the bulls are faring in their evolution from a successful core.
  24. I'm a white sox fan because my dad lived in baltimore watching those teams and we went to chicago's AL team to watch games. I really know more (even today) about Baltimores history pre 1990 than the white sox.
