  1. I think it makes sense to see what teams value exclusive rights to Avi would be, non-tendering him if the value is not particularly high, and then taking the risk that you can re-sign him at a lower cost even among competition. If sox ended up signing harper, this saves them money. If they don't, they give garcia opportunity few teams will have, which is a starting job in RF mostly dedicated to him.
  2. They could still sign him, right?
  3. He still makes me nervous to let go, though I don't want to keep him particularly. Still a bundle of talent that couldn't put it together, fantastic arm, great exit velocity numbers when he hits it, spurts of power, but just never able to put it together. It reminds me a bit of smoak, who was who he was until suddenly at age 30 he became pretty good. That said, I don't feel like waiting around for Avi anymore.
  4. Kudos for having guts not to use a contract not ending in a 5 or 0
  5. He keeps saying "they were playing small" so he sends in parker defensively, but I guarantee WCJ can play smaller PF better than Parker.
  6. I was fine cutting Gould, but the savings did not end up doing much, and the main problem, and this is still an issue, is Pace has not really endorsed competition among his kickers. He should have had multiple kickers every year seriously pushing o'donnel and parkey and barth, and he only gave token gestures toward it.
  7. Performance wise, I think it’s time to push him. Remember we had to keep him in DSL for tax reasons. Health wise is my only concern.
  8. Floyd!!! Wonderful Trubisky performance. Doubt we’ll hear “Robinson is a bust” today.
  9. That defense is so freaking good and they could maybe still be an 8-8 team if they had just recognized obvious with peterman and gotten an actual roster QB.
  10. I like Paxton but I see them as equally risky. Paxton due to health
  11. Ooh, this is a good question. This was certainly more than I thought he was worth, even if martes has not shown much yet and is injured.
  12. I’m really glad he is showing up and finally healthy but, the dude is gonna be in A+ again next year, let’s chill with the “actually the rebuild has been perfect!”
  13. Really? His free agent record is terrible. I don’t care if LaRoche and Cabrera were market value, he gave market to bad players.
  14. Shellacking. Stupid big 12 I couldn’t watch. My impression is away games are going to be brutal until they figure out a ball handler.
  15. One thing I want to say about big contracts: - Over the last 5 or so years there have been so many contracts that I"ve heard were "unmovable" that were then easily moved. While the whole salary rarely moves, enough of it does that teams can get out of hell. Even prince fielder. - Teams still get pretty good returns on those players anyway. - If the sox were truly horrible, manny and harper would almost certainly waive a no trade clause to leave. This will not be an adam jones situation. So, it's not this monster signing that will screw up sox. It's if they continue to fail at player development, talent accumulation, and scouting.
  16. Everytime I have to remember that situation I am shocked at how stupid it was.
  17. This has been bothering me for a while. I feel like it's significantly harder to trade in video games than people give it credit for!
  18. It appears Robert is starting to get his feet under him. Priority has to be health this year. He added a lot of strength between his playing time, sox have to figure out a good program for him.
  19. Yeah that's really rough for him.
  20. This is so bizarre. Maybe this will be a drew brees moment. (hopefully not a hilarious carlton fisk scenario where he spends next 12 years as a white sox while everyone thinks of him as a cub)
  21. Now, that said, the perfect team for this is the braves. And hooo boy an infield of Freeman, Swanson, Albies, Bryant with an OF of Acuna, Inciarte, (Brantley) is pretttayyyy good. Now, here's the other thing. This rumor makes no sense. It is quite frankly shortening a window.
  22. I mean the net between their two salaries next year is going to be absolutely insane, so much so that the added value of whatever prospects would be involved make it a wash at LEAST. And that's just year one.
  23. While it would be difficult to lose Eloy, you have to admit it would be pretty hilarious looking back that it a straight up Quintana for Bryant trade is realistic with the pieces involved. Cubs fans would have been laughing their asses off at that idea a year ago. But not sure many teams could beat Eloy + Cease + 2 orgs
  24. Noticeable decline.
  25. A big question with walker that we will find out is whether the sox viewing him as a CF is legit. That said, basabe has a lower hit tool but walks. As he rises levels he needs to maintain that, but if his power keeps improving that makes it easier.
