QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 10:38 AM) Thats because for every top prospect than pans out, there are 5 that dont. Look at our "cant miss" guys over the past 5 years. s*** Joe Crede was an MVP, and Borchard was the 2nd coming of Babe Ruth. You cant never tell until they get there. I will take KW's approach of trading these "studs" for proven players all day long. I cant even believe some people in this thread wishing that KW would act like the twins or cleveland. You want to talk about fleecing? How about Aarond Miles for Uribe? How about getting a clutch playoff pitcher (Garcia) who won us our clinching game 2/3 rounds in the playoffs for bascially a bench catcher and a still unproven OF'er? Indians fans may hate or love this trade, but frankly, if Marte was so "cant miss" he wouldnt have been traded. No matter what a team needs, if you have the opportunity to have a player, who performs at a high level, for a low cost, for several years, you dont trade it. Completely agree rock, fantastic post. It's important to have a good farm system for different reasons depending on how you run your franchise. Kenny seems to have a few guys he loves and won't trade like BA and Brandon and then the rest he'll trade for proven commodities. I love this approach and without it we wouldn't be awaiting a ring ceremony the 2nd game of the season.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 10:18 AM) I realize that, but he was the most touted and farthest along in his development at the time. IIRC he was one of the top 10 prospects in baseball, and he still hasn't done anything of note. Correct. I agree with you guys for the most part. I like Marte but I really believe coco will be a big loss, he can hit and besides Hafner he was probably the toughest out against us that Cleveland had in their lineup.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 10:22 AM) Looks like somebody might be in attendance. Stay tuned. Yes, I will be in attendace.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) You could put Brandon Phillips in that category too. Brandon Phillips was in the same deal with Sizemore and Cliff Lee though, so they did turn out ok in that one.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) COrrect me if I am wrong, but Sportscenter said that one game Jordon score 61 he sat the entire 4th Quarter! He probably could have score more if he wanted to. If you noticed, Even after the lakers were up by 10 or 15 in the 4th Quarter, Kobe was still in!! Why does he need to still be playing? Just to inflate his own ego more? It was still a 9 point game half way through the 4th quarter. Once Kobe built that lead up himself Phil probably just kept him in to let him finish this one off. Kobe pulled himself in the other game this year when he had 62 through 3.

QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 10:00 AM) Remember this trade when the Tribe traded for a can't miss stud. http://www.espn.go.com/mlb/news/2001/1211/1293403.html That bum landed us Jerry Owens, I'm very greatful for him.

QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 09:45 AM) This is especially funny because watching him against the Suns Friday night I said he was going to go for 80 one night and then he goes and does it last night I want proof.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 08:41 AM) BTW, the closest to MJ was actually before him. Oscar Robertson, he averaged a triple double during the 1961-62 season. 12.5 RPG 11.4 APG 30.8 PPG Most new fans don't realize what a phenom the Big O was. Oscar was a different type of player then Mike was imo. That season you speak of is still one of the most phenominal things in NBA history. I wish I could have seen him play back in the day, he's one of the guys I really would have enjoyed watching I think.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 08:34 AM) Kobe has tried to be Michael throughout his whole life, he just cannot be Michael. I mean, he even screwed up the mistress on the side worse than MJ did.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 08:27 AM) Good luck comparing Kobe to Jordan on a board full of people from Chicago. It's not a comparison. Kobe is and will be the closest thing we ever see to Michael but he's not close.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 08:15 AM) So you're saying Lamar should never take more than 15 shots in a game? I don't know what their record is when he does take 15+ shots, but that's sure as hell not the reason why they're only a couple games over.500. All I'm saying is that Kobe can score all the points he wants. Him taking 35+ shots a night is not gonna do anything for his teammates or the success of the franchise in the long run. Jordan figured this out. Kobe's in his tenth season and still doesn't seem to understand that. I'm not saying he should never shoot that many shots but he sure as hell shouldn't be taking a lot of shots per game imo. The Lakers are winless by the way when he shoots 15 or more. I agree that eventually Kobe is going to have to give up some shots but he really doesn't have a choice right now, if he doesn't shoot a ton, they aren't going to win.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 01:43 AM) Kobe got what he's always wanted. The freedom to shoot as much as he wants, as often as he wants without anybody on the team being able to say a damn thing about it. It amazes me how most of Kobe's teammates, especially Odom, don't seem to mind that they go entire quarters at times without taking a shot. Do you know that Smush Parker was the Lakers second leading shot taker last night with 11? lol. Then people have the nerve to say the reason Kobe was taking all those shots is because nobody else was doing anything. You can't score if you don't shoot. You're totally right in saying who the hell is gonna wanna play with a guy that shoots as much as Kobe does. Odom had a breakout year two years ago. He hasn't been the same since. Laker fans better enjoy these offensive outbursts by Kobe. That's about the only thing they have to look forward to. There is a reason Kobe takes all the shots on that team. Look at the Lakers record when Odom shoots 15+ shots, it's not pretty. It's pretty amazing that this team is over .500 and it's all Kobe and Phil. Kobe is the best parimeter player in basketball right now, period.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 12:54 PM) I knew this comparison was coming the minute I typed my post. Now I'll humor you: yes, they envy our rings. Point is, I wouldn't mind Williams creating trade scenarios which don't necessarily help us immediately, but rather, have the potential of reeping high rewards several years down the line. For example: I wouldn't mind if trading Contreras netted our minor leagues several quality pitching prospects. We're not exactly overloaded in that department. I'm just giving you crap cause I can.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 12:38 PM) I envy the Indians here because this is an example of a trade I wish Williams would orchestrate. Think they envy those rings we won last year?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 04:12 AM) Michaels is basically going to be replacing Crisp in CF for 2006. Here's how they size up; Crisp - .300/.345/.465 Michaels - .305/.399/.415 So in essence it shows that Michaels should be able to get on base more then Crisp but he'll hit for less power. But I'd expect Michaels' offensive numbers to go down from moving from Citizens Bell Park where he had splits of .328/.428/.420. In half the ab's. If Marte does live up to his potential then this deal is obviously going to be huge for Cleveland down the road but for this year I'm glad as f*** for Crisp to be out of there.
