What moves,if any, should KW make at deadline?
Rowand44 replied to chisoxtime's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 22, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) I'd be willing to deal Tracey before Gio Gonzalez but that's just me, I know Jason and Cerb are pretty high on Tracey, and he's having a very good year down at B-Ham. In any case, the top guys in our farm should be off - limits. I'm with you 100 percent. Gio's a special kind of talent, you don't see many high schoolers come in with his kind of control and that kind of curveball, not to mention he already has good velocity on his fastball where he could very well add more velocity. I like Tracey but I'm not as high on him as Jas or Cerb, though those 2 obviously know much more then me when it comes to our system. I would be willing to center a package around Tracey though if it meant acquiring a Wagner or a top tier player like that. -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 22, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) Could see that coming. Really there aren't that many holes in this team. First and foremost I'd like to see us acquire a lefty LOOGY who can actually get lefties out. A closer would be nice, but I don't want to sell the farm to get one. B-Mac today showed how important it is to develop young players. I don't want to mortgage the farm this year just because of the fact I don't think there is a glaring weakness on this team. We're going to be adding frank within the next few weeks which right there will be a bigger bat then any other team could add. I definitely wouldn't mind adding a bullpen arm but I think we have some good in house options there as well with Baj and maybe Jenks. If there is a chance to get Wagner, Kenny should explore that avenue but Bmac should be untouchable, period. I don't want to give up anderson for the fact that he's going to be starting full time next year and I just think so highly of sweeney that I want to hold on to him as well. The guy I'd be willing to center a package around that could net us something in a trade is Sean Tracey. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 22, 2005 -> 07:13 PM) Kevin Millar has hit for pretty much no power this year. He's a great clubhouse guy, but I don't think he'll be our main target. Erubiel Durazo is one of Beane's love childs. And he pretty much can't field at 1B. He's a DH specialist, so we'll have to see what happens with Thomas and Konerko. My guy I'd go after since we're naming them, J.T Snow. Lefty bat, won't break the bank, hits for a high average and a gold glove first baseman. I actually think we have J.T. junior on the dl right now. Nothing against snow but I'd rather give ross a shot then signing snow, if we can't find a left handed bat with power I think it might be better to stay in house and use some money on a dominate closer or a dominate setup man(that's the beauty of hermy gives you that versatility). Since we really won't have many holes to fill we'll probably be able to make a big splash somewhere whether it be wagner or Durazo or trading Contreras for a top tier talent. Ahh, always fun to talk about next season when we have the best record in baseball this season.

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ May 22, 2005 -> 07:10 PM) must have felt good, cant wait till i give it to everyone at school about how we beat the cubs I'm going to refrain from doing that. It's a fun series to win, no doubt about that but it's just another series, now if some idiot flub fan says something dumb to me well then that's a different story but I'm not going to rub it in.

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 22, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) Maddux is not longer an ace by any means. But he was an ace for a decade and one of the best pitchers in 20-30 years. Not many can touch what he has done in his career. How many times did glavine pitch over 200 innings with an era under three? Glavine has not always been an ace and either has maddux but they both were for along period of time. It's pretty darn hard to have an era under 3 in the al, I know Johan did it last year and I'm pretty sure Huddy did it a few times but add in the park where Mark pitches and it seems like it's going to be almost impossible to do that for a season. Mark did however have an era under 3 on the road last year.
-
It amazes me how down on Garcia people have been this year. He has an era under 4, 6 of his 9 starts have been quality starts(I believe Buehrle has the same amount, someone correct me if I'm wrong) Freddy's been very good he just had those two bad starts in a row, besides that he's actually been pretty dominate.
-
They're right though Mark needs to go back to Charlotte, he f***in sucks this year.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 22, 2005 -> 04:34 PM) We do not have one ace let alone four. As of right now Garland's pitching like an ace and I still think Buehrle is an ace but like everyone said it all depends on what you consider an ace.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 22, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) Good idea. I would take Polanco over Cruddy's and s***caino's worthless hides right about now. Is there a group of fans that hate their players more then sox fans do, I'm going to say no.
-
Good luck JB, I wish you the best of luck.

QUOTE(rangercal @ May 22, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) Bmac looked good today. It's one game. But if he continues I don't see how that can hurt us. How can you send him down if he is major-league ready right now? That's what Kenny and Ozzie have to decide. I know ozzie absolutely loves Brandon and if he dominates texas like he owned the cubs today it's going to be very hard to send him back down. It's an outstanding problem to have though, there isn't another team out there who has 6 great starters to work with.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 22, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) Prove that I can end my horrible curse of being in attendance at Sox games. I'll be there Tues, Wed, and Thurs You're only a true fan if you go to all 4. Any series where we send Jon and Mark out there I'm pretty sure we'll be in good shape.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 22, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) I know one thing...there is no way KW is going to be able to acquire any big time player unless he's willing to give up Brandon. Teams are just going to say give us Bmac or no deal when it comes to that type of prospect being on our sidelines. KW needs to stick to a policy of don't even call us if you want Brandon. First off even if he's not in the major leagues, he's the best insurance policy this club has. Pitchers get hurt and having him as a plan B this year is freaking fantastic. If he picks up the phone and just hears the name Brandon he should just hang up. As far as a trade I'm still of the opinion we really dont need to make one. If Viz keeps faultering I think we have good in house options instead of making a deal. All I know is Brandon ain't going anywhere.

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 22, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) Our bullpen needs more depth, it really does. It is not as good as every one claims/ has claimed. None of buehrle, hernandez, contreras, garland, or garcia is gonna go into the pen no matter how much anyone thinks so or hopes so. I have no problem with mccarthy starting this year if hernandez is out but once he returns hernandez is one of our starters this year know matter how well mccarthy does in the next start or two. The only logical choice would be for mccarthy to be moved into the bull pen. Next year we could look to move one of hernandez/contreras to fit mccarthy in. I understand what you're saying but I just dont want Brandon in the pen. There's no arguing right now how good the backend of the pen is. Slowly but surely Shingo's starting to get his s*** together and neal is fine for what he does. Right now Viz is sucking, though this game really wasn't his fault, it'd be nice to add another bullpen arm somewhere but once again we might be able to do that in house without giving up our spects. I dont know what the hell ozzie and kenny our going to decide but goddamn where the f*** was Brandon when we've needed a starter the last 3 years.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 22, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) I'll be pissed when it ends up being Willie that gets demoted because the organizatoin has this hard on for Timo. I got a feeling willie is going to be held on to.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 22, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) That hurt buehrle and many pitchers that got eased into the rotation. My bad. For the most part it's not a bad idea but with Brandon it is. That's a good way to do it for a pitcher to gain confidence and realize he can pitch in the show. Bmac knows he can pitch here and he needs to be taking the ball every 5 days to improve even more.
-
This is going to be interesting, all of the sudden we have to much depth, great problem to have just makes for interesting decisions. The obvious one is walker, next I'd have to say Timo, I'm probably the biggest Timo supporter here but Willie and Pablo can do to much for this team, play a ton of positions, lay down bunts, pinch run, etc. After that when Ross is ready to go it's going to be real interesting. If Brandon pitches awesome again against Texas then I really don't know what the hell to do.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 22, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) Shingo actually looked really good today. Well he looked good on 3 of the batters his face...the 1st two and than the final out. His fastball was zipping and damn did he make Burnitz look like a fool. I kind of think Shingo is getting closer. First time this year I saw him get his frisbee over.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 22, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) put mccarthy in the pen. NO
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 22, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) mentally tough That's what's going to make him so special. It seems like he's got Buehrle's head with a better fastball and a better curve, though obviously Buehrle has more pitches that he can throw for strikes. The only word that comes to my mind about Bmac is special, he's going to be outstanding imo.

Brandon McCarthy ML debut game thread vs Cubs
Rowand44 replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ May 22, 2005 -> 02:44 PM) We faced their best 3 pitchers in my opinion, and they didn't face our best pitcher, and our best pitcher record wise. This is a good series win. Sure we all wanted the White Sox to sweep them, but we'll get another chance next month. Yup, we got their top 3, they missed our top 2, arguably our top 3, anyways solid series just one mistake. Gotta hope Milwaukee hangs on and lets go kick some halo ass now. -
He's special, end of story.

QUOTE(Brian @ May 22, 2005 -> 02:37 PM) Kudos to Brandon on one hell of a debut. Pulled before he should of been. Bmac, great f***in job. I think we all just witnessed the beginning of something special.
