QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 01:22 PM) Correct, because if there's data out there on correlations between weight and pitching durability, I haven't seen it, but I also haven't seen anything ruling it out. Fair enough. But once again, I think we're all just assuming too much with Chris. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 01:25 PM) This was also that little scare this season where the Sox entertained the idea of moving him to relief permanently because they were concerned with his future. That speaks volumes, too. Teams are trying to protect their young pitchers so much that they sit them down for the playoffs for no reason or debate moving them to the bullpen for basically no reason. It's paranoia and at this point, that's all it is. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 01:26 PM) If we really want to get into it, there's also his dropping to 14th in the draft when his performance, velocity, and Lefthandness had him in the top 5 on most people's draft boards. That had to do with Chris' perceived contract demands. Trust me, I understand why people worrry about him as he's a huge part(the biggest part) of our franchise going forward but I think people are just trying to find things to be worried about when it comes to Sale. I just don't think there's any more injury concern with Chris than there is with any other pitcher in the bigs.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:54 PM) Any other wafer thin guy throwing 96 mph with a real solid slider, perhaps. And we're just working with assumptions that skinny guys can't be durable I take it?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 01:12 PM) And he was awful when he played. You take that back.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 10:07 AM) Ptatc can describe it in further detail, but coming from the side puts far less stress on his elbow than coming over the top or 3/4. And, as that article indicates as well, he's strikingly similar to Randy Johnson too, including mechanically. Johnson threw 200+ innings 14 times, and he was well on his way to doing it in '94 too. EDIT: Thinking back, it may not have been ptatc, but I have read in the past where there is less concern over Sale due to the angle at which he throws. I'm honestly not concerned in the least. I've always thought that his arm motion is a much safer angle for his slider than coming over the top would be. I think some people just believe that coming from an angle like that automatically makes you an injury risk, and I just don't believe that to be the case. Obviously every pitcher is an injury risk but Sale is no more so than any other guy imo.

I'm still not sure why Sale is so much more of an injury risk than any other pitcher.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 10:20 PM) In football though, oftentimes you are looking to slot these players into your lineup within a year or two. In baseball, you are projecting out several years in most cases. It is much easier to address needs on a short-term basis than on a long-term basis, because you are not trying to predict the future as much. Ya exactly. Drafting by need in baseball makes no sense, drafting by need in football is essential.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 01:19 PM) fitness related goals for 2013? Work out 260 days this year. Average of 5 days a week. A hour a day. The funny thing? That's only 3% of my time. EZ. Dunk a basketball. Unrelated to that, I'm going to cut down about 15 lbs over the next 3 months here and then go from there.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) Purdue has offered a scholly to soph Jalen Brunson from Stevenson. The kid is going to be the best PG in state by the time he's a senior. Heard he maybe moving east this coming summer as well. Interesting. I need to go watch him in person. -
SIU-Bradley and Ill State-Creighton on tv?!?!?!? Rowand heaven.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 01:53 PM) I'm a little surprised on Castro as well - I think he's still Top 10 in the Sox system, even if just barely. I'd have him exactly at 10. The overall depth in our system definitely still lacks but I actually really like our top 10.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 07:54 AM) I will say this much for Gruden, he is the best teacher of the game in the booth that I know of, when it comes to the NFL. No one actually gets in and breaks down plays, formations, techniques, etc like Gruden does. I don't let the cheerleadering bother me, as his technical work is just spectacular. What now?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 10:26 AM) But that's because drunks like us have an excuse, even though we don't need one Exactly. But it's not me that needs an excuse but the people I hang out with do, thus my love for holidays that make them go out and party.

QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 09:02 AM) I was eyeing that earlier this week, maggsmaggs. Hope it's a good time! We're going to a dinner and late comedy show in our suburban town. Looking forward to it being a low key night. -- I have to say NYE is one my least favorite holidays. You always feel obligated to do something, and you usually end up disappointed with what you do or don't do. And that is why 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays, as I don't feel an obligation to do something, but I always have ended up doing something and had the best time. Funny you say that, NYE and the 4th are my 2 favorite holidays.

Well I have to work an 11 hr shift today and then after that lots and lots of drinking. Hooray 5 hr open bars!

Been doing some bulking the last few months so I'm going to do about a 3 month cut of about 15 lbs starting on the 2nd, that's the first move, besides that just keep my life on the upswing. 2012 was a great year for me and I don't want to ruin that in 2013.

Seahawks-Skins should be an absolute blast to watch.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 30, 2012 -> 11:21 PM) Yup. Ozzie's Sox playing career >>> AJ's. Sarcasm I hope?

Love that dude.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Dec 30, 2012 -> 04:07 PM) Iowa could be pretty decent. Maybe not a tournament team because the conference is so deep, but games in Iowa City won't be easy, and they may surprise you on the road if you sleep on them. EDIT: Their non-conference schedule didn't do them any favors, though. Speaking of, I would like IU's to get tougher. Another marquee opponent (Louisville?) and a legit road game or two. Ya Iowa at home will upset one of the big boys.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 30, 2012 -> 06:45 PM) Adrian Peterson should absolutely win the MVP. What an incredible season by him. Absolutely this.
-
QUOTE (Carter224 @ Dec 30, 2012 -> 06:06 PM) Watching the game at home maybe, but with a first round bye on the line and a clear non fumble how can you not throw that flag out as fast as you can if you're McCarthy? The rule is stupid, it shouldnt matter if they throw the flag or not. Its going to be reviewed either way. That could have REALLY cost them for sure though. And it would cost me, I need Green Bay to win to stay alive for the pick em pot for the season. $250 comes my way if Green Bay and Washington can win tonight! This has literally come up every week. Yes the rule is beyond dumb but any coach that still throws the challenge flag at that point is just an idiot.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 30, 2012 -> 05:53 PM) Emotions take over sometimes I guess. This isn't a shot at you cause I know you're just trying to justify it but was that rule not the first thing that popped into everyone's head there? Obviously Jordy and Rodgers were all over it too.
-
Hahahahahahahhhhaha. Granted it didn't hurt them too bad but seriously how are coaches still this f***in dumb?

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 29, 2012 -> 04:06 PM) Viciedo would not be in my 3-5 year plan currently. If he were playing 3B or RF, yes. If you're going to stick a 24 y.o. in LF he needs to produce quickly, if not he can be replaced fairly easily. Giving up on a 23 yr old because he plays lf is just so ridiculous and I'm just going to leave it at that.
