Official Game Thread 6/23 - Stros vs Sox 7:35
Rowand44 replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in 2006 Season in Review
Well we're getting no help from the cards so just gotta take care of business. -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) Curtis Granderson has really become one of my most hated players in baseball. He's in the middle of everything for Detroit.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 07:01 PM) I live in Gurnee and went to Warren high school which is considered a rich school. A little less so than the brats at Stevenson. /cheap shot God, you are a whore.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) K-Rod just muffed that ball too, got kind of lazy and it cost them a game. Yup, iirc, the last pitch he threw he thought was a strike and didn't get the call. Kind of jabbed at the ball in anger when Molina threw it back and just dropped it.

Cards have put up a 3 spot so far in the 3rd and we're tied.

QUOTE(tigerfan @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 06:57 PM) Just thought of another odd play that happened last season,. The A's were playing someone in extra innings if I recall right, and there was a guy on 3rd in the bottom of the inning. The catcher was going to the throw the ball back to the pitcher, and the pitcher failed to catch it. alertly the runner from 3rd started to come home and ended up making it safely to win the ballgame. I don't know that I've seen a play as odd as that one. Angels and Krod was pitching.

QUOTE(GOD @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) I hate power rankings Joe Crede or Pablo Ozuna?
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 06:52 PM) Ozzie did that in America. Doesn't surprise me, I don't recall ever seeing that one though.
-
QUOTE(tigerfan @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 06:48 PM) That reminds me of something that happened a few years back. I don't remember the player or the teams involved, but this pitch came in and bounced in the dirt, and the hitter just took a swing at it with his bat and ended up getting a hit out of it. Ichiro did that in Japan.

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) Thome's about to hit a HR on CSN. Woah You're good. -
QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) I think I'm right! I'll have to check again when I get home. You don't have to check, you're definitely right. "Out, out, a White Sox winner and a world championship. The White Sox have won the world series."

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) There's a lot of contact in baseketball....expecially under the boards boxing out and such...I agree that push wasn't basketball related. but it soudns like it went back to the play before and was just typical shoving that goes on in basketball. A clothes line and a fury of punches that would make any hockey inforcer proud, was way out of bounds. Once again we can't look at the result and say oh the kid is fine now. We have to look at what if he wasn't fine. What if his jaw was busted or his head got cracked open on the floor or any other number of SERIOUS things that could have occured. Pushing and shoving to get a rebound is very common which means this kid should have let it go and not try to do anything about it. He then comes up the court when you think everything would be done with and goes out of his way to push the other kid. Now, anyone out there that got shoved for absolutely no reason is either going to shove the guy back or take a hack at him. Obviously, he took it way too far when the kid was on the ground seemingly out cold but the initial reaction by the guy who went crazy seems pretty typical of what a lot of others would do.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 03:25 PM) I hate to say it, but you don't put your hands onto someone like that if you aren't ready to back it up. Granted the beating the kid took was WAY too far, but you can't expect to get away with stuff like that. In reality, you don't know who you are stepping to at that point. Anything can happen... Agree word for word with this.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) I'm not a basketball player, but that "push" didn't look any more aggresive than normal play..? Was it more? It does look like he just pushed him for no reason. Sometimes you'll see someone push off a bit to try and seperate from the defender but that right there seemed like a blatant push with out any reason for it.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:00 AM) Very interesting piece today, considering the events of earlier in the week. Mods, Is this an allowed thread? Hangar, if you want to discuss it it's already in the ozzie/mariotti thread so I'm just going to close this up.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 10:39 AM) D'oh!! just so you don't all think I'm nuts... Sox set for World Series rematch Houston (37-36) at Chicago (47-25), 7:05 p.m. CT They do have 7:35 on the front page though. Ha, don't worry about it. Happens to the best of us. Just remember, all friday night games this year at the cell are at 7:35. -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 10:42 AM) Exactly, you hit it on the head Kalapse, great comparison (although Thome does get more love here than Dunn does in Cincy since Thome hits for a much higher batting average). And doesn't hit .140ish every year with risp.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 10:25 AM) Actually, if I remember correctly, the Cards complained about the same s*** against the Cubs a few seasons back. I can't find anything written about it at the moment, but a couple of Cub fans in my office just confirmed it, for what its worth. Whatever. If the Sox got the beatings that the Cardinals recieved in the first two games, they might be wondering the same thing. Its hard to come to the realization that your pitching may have been that bad. I actually remember that Cubs incident as well. -
Who is the Best Young Pitcher in MLB?
Rowand44 replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 10:16 AM) eh, I would rather have several guys before him. But Liriano is already a better pitcher. Liriano 7-1 2.17 1.06 WHIP .217 BAA Zambrano 6-3 2.83 ERA 1.26 WHIP .191 BAA According to your own opinion on pitchers, WHIP is the ultimate way to see who is the best arm. Well Liriano looks to be more dominant this year. He also plays in a much stronger Division, and is in the AL which usually adds a run to your ERA. This is also Liriano's first time around the league as a starter. Zambrano has proven for years now that he's just an unbelievable pitcher even though he's a psycho. Liriano is one hell of a talent but his numbers are sure to go up a bit once he pitches a little more. -
Pabelbon has been the best closer in baseball so far this year. BJ Ryan also has been better then Bobby but lately, Bobby has been as dominate as anyone. He's getting ahead of everyone, his velocity has fully returned and he's getting his curve over and because of that he's nearly unhittable right now.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 02:51 AM) BTW -- without going too far off-course here -- now that one of the better pitching classes in recent history has graduated (Billingsly, Cain, Verlander, Liriano, Weaver, Hamels, etc etc), who is the best pitching prospect in baseball as of this moment? I'm stealing this idea from the Baseball Analysts, BTW -- but you could make a case for former Sox farmhand Gio Gonzalez as the best [pitching] prospect in baseball right now. Phillip Hughes is probably right up there as well. I feel like I've heard this conversation before. -
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 02:04 AM) Point taken, but how is this organization supposed to be a first class one when there manager is an embarassment? You have the right to think that way but Ozzie speaking his mind does not make him an embarrasment imo. He's never going to be politically correct but so be it, I couldn't care less about that. There are times when he could choose his words more carefully but when he's asked a question he is going to say exactly what is on his mind. I don't see how that's an embarrasment but that's your opinion so whatever.
