From what I hear, Andy Gonzalez' problems are more in between the ears than with his physical talent. Not sure a move to the mound will help until he grows up.

Borchard does not have a cannon......... When playing together, it was easily apparent that Rowand's arm was much stronger.

I'm no mathemetician, but I would think that the total area of the outfield of Coors Field is close to 6% larger than the average park. An even bigger outfield would have an adverse affect on pitching and cause even more runs to be scored. As recently as a few years ago, they were considering moving the fences in, figuring it would cut down on runs scored.
-
Aaron Miles
The current distances of the fence are already longer than most ballparks. So your "6%" is already accounted for. If Coors will make Miles such a great hitter, then why didn't it do the same for Uribe??

Thomas opens his yap again.
He keeps comparing how much money he makes to how much the Sox respect him. That comes across as nothing but whining.

You are right and you are wrong.... lol Currently, LHP's comprise 33.7% of all AL rosters. The 4 other teams in the AL Central where the Sox will play a large bulk of their games, have 39.6% of their staffs as lefties. This is a different year, so I am not sure what those numbers were like last year. But I did look at some of the Sox everyday players last year to see what their splits were. Surprisingly, approx. 27-28% of at bats from Frank, Carlos and Maggs last year were against LHP's. I wonder if that will hold true this year? My initial thought is that there are more LH starters than relievers so that number should be higher due to more IP by the starters. I didn't look up each team's starters only, so I very well could be wrong on that. Anybody want to finish my research? lol

Britney Spears a Birmingham Barons fan?

Thomas opens his yap again.
Steff, I disagree with you in principle here. I see a big difference between his situation now and Maggs. Frank needs to shut up with the contract talk. Frank's problem is that he equates money with respect. There is some degree of validity with that, but when he says like that it makes him sound like he is whining. If Frank would just shut up, play and produce, he will get what he deserves, whether with the Sox or somewhere else. But there is no way I would give him a 4 year deal right now, nor would I renegotiate his current deal. Respect can be shown in many ways and it is not all about money.

Game Threads for April 14th
Birmingham's everyday lineup is made up of veterans. Aside from fringe prospects like Morse, Spidale and Yan, there are no real prospects. A guy like Aaron McNeal could surprise, but I doubt he will be more than just AA/AAA filler. The pitching is the strength at Birmingham, but there are still many veterans. Honel and Munoz are the only real prospects right now (with Wing still in AZ). Guys like Meaux, Bajenaru, Bullard and Phillips are guys that could contribute at the Major League level with a break or two, but they aren't highly regarded prospects.

BJ Upton won't play against the Barons
That is my fear...... They don't come back until June.

Why not Halladay?
I believe the Sox payroll this year is around $65-$68 million, up from $51 million last year. Sounds to me they have spent money this year.

That is correct.... I was quite disappointed to not get an opportunity to see him play.

Check out the main page of the Barons website. It now has a live scoreboard similar to ESPN or CBS Sportsline, but it is for White Sox affiliates. I knew they were working on something like that, but it is much more cool than I expected. Birmingham Barons Official Web Site
