Gammons on sportscenter
It's all a moot point now because Scott Williamson is now a menber of the Sox, the Red Sox, that is...

Gammons on sportscenter
Are you f***in nuts?? The Reds have been ordered to dump Williamson, so why pay much for him? The Sox would be stupid to get rid of Crede at this time. Crede is your future. Bmr was right (can't believe I said that lol), that expectations for Crede were way too high. He will be a solid player for the Sox for many years, if you guys will just get off his f***ing back!

Buehrle
He said something to the effect of the Cubs losing was good for the Cardinals and that he still roots for the Cardinals to win. I don't recall exactly when it was said but it seems like it was a month or so ago. People make way too much out of that stuff, if you ask me.

Which starter should we get?
What in the hell makes you think that San Diego would give up a potential stud starter for Carlos Lee? Reality check boys. It ain't gonna happen.
-
Which starter should we get?
True, but if you don't hold the lead, what do you get? A blown save if the game is in the 7th inning or later. A Hold is a weak attempt at trying to measure how many inherited runners score.

Which starter should we get?
Its about the first time i've ever even used it. Just tell me the ERA, innings pitched, k's, walks and I can tell ya if the guy is any good. I'll add hits allowed to those, Jason...

Which starter should we get?
I know this is way off topic, but I noticed something in Jason's post that made me have to speak up. The HOLD stat for pitchers has to be the most worthless stat ever invented. I have never seen helpful use of this stat in evaluating anyone.

Keep in mind that Munoz just turned 21 within the last month. He is Triple-A pitching most of the season at 20 years old. Combine that with his workload and it is understandable that he may be struggling a bit. I know you have to take the whole season into account, but if you take out Arnie's first 4 appearances (first two weeks of the season) he has pitched decently since. His numbers since that point are: 3-2 with a 4.04 ERA and 3 Saves.... 35.2 IP 32 H 18 BB 39 K Not stellar, but certainly respectable for a 20 yr old in AAA.

Why is everyone scared of Seattle? Their offense has been struggling mightily and overall they have been on a decline.

Sox Memoribilia
I have autographed balls from the following, but nothign else too exciting aside from a Tony Pena bat from when he was a Sox roving instructor: Thomas, Ordonez, Garland, Kip Wells, Ventura, Lee, Borchard, Konerko, Fogg, Belle, Olivo, and a handful of others.

Jeremy Reed
My thoughts on Reed (also posted in another thread).... Reed is an excellent player. Right now the only question about him is how much power will he develop. Right now he would fit very nicely as a two-hole hitter. He can hit the ball to all fields, can bunt (both for sac and for a hit), run, and doesn't strike out much. If, down the road he develops more than gap power, he could easily move into the three hole and be an unbelievable hitter. Some may question his defense, but I sure don't see it. He has played a stellar OF whether he has played RF or CF. He has made some unbelievable catches. I see him as a really solid Major Leaguer. He may not be spetacular, but he will be good at the least. He brings all of the intangibles you want to the table as well. He is just a damned good baseball player.

Who Thinks that the Sox
I think he cuold give you a solid 5-6 innings right now. Walks do come back to haunt you when you get to the Big Leagues, so he will have to watch that. But I don't view tonight's 5 too harshly, since two of them came as he was running out of gas.

Reed will not get a September callup. It is too early for them to start his service time clock and expose him to options. Cotts may get the call sooner than later.

Josh, I don't think you can look at it exactly that way. Like MSF said, two of the five were in the 8th inning where it seems he was laboring after giving up a leadoff hit. If he would have come out after the 7th inning and his line was 7 IP 0 H 0 R 3 BB 9 K, would you complain then? I definitely think he is ready if the Sox call on him.

The way Cotts has pitched the last two games he should be 10-4, not 8-6.

Reds Housecleaning
Who ya gonna talk to though? They don't have a GM. I'll bet that they move no more than 2 of them.

The reality is LDF, that the Barons aren't really very good. They are 19-16 in this half and that is good for a tie for 1st place. Not a lot of good teams in the Southern League this year. Don't get me wrong, I want them to win, but I have to be honest about it. The Barons are full of very average AA players with a few exceptions. Wally has them winning just enough to hang in there, though. Bajenaru is a RH relief pitcher who has a chance to be a bullpen guy in the show. He was excellent in a setup role when Ring was closing, but has struggled a bit since his role has changed. He has closed some, but not all the time. He missed all of last year with arm surgery.

Bajenaru and then Meaux. Baj just faced one batter, I believe.

Yeah, last Wednesday he had only thrown 68 pitches going into the 8th. He was cruising and getting guys out early in the count. So you can't really call that a factor then. I have no idea about tonight since the game was in Mobile. He did have 9 strikeouts and 3 walks, so perhaps his pitch count was a little higher tonight. But I do know that they wouldn't let him go much higher than 100.

I'm just disappointed for Neal. The last two games he has been totally dominant only to lose it in the 8th inning. Unfortunately, he has picked up losses in both due to no run support (3 runs total in the two games). This is all part of the learning process and these last two outings were as deep as he has gone all year. I do feel that if the Sox need a 5th starter on Saturday, that Neal is ready to go. The Barons are in a pennant race and I would hate to see him go, but I do feel he is ready.
-
Cotts Tonight
In his last two starts he has given up a total of ONE hit in 14 innings (1st 7 each game). Unfortunately, like Cerb mentioned, he has faltered in the 8th both times and picked up the loss in each start.
