Is anyone hearing anything about Noel Devine? I'm not getting much info from Rivals other than he is considering several schools equally.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 12:30 PM) However, I'm not sure I'm going to be upset either way right now on the subject of him coming here or not. He'd be a great get, and would make our recruiting class even stronger. However, I have to admit all the rumblings of the stuff his brother is doing in the recruiting process has me nervous also, and I wouldn't be mad to not have to worry about that dirt at all. My thoughts on Rose are very simple. If he has nothing on his mind other than being a 1 year player, then let him go elsewhere. I already have trepidation about Gordon doing so. I want IU to compete at the highest level, but I don't want them to turn into a one and done factory. The only reason I was so excited to get Gordon is that he is an in-state kid and those are the kind of kids we need. If Rose goes to Illinois or Memphis, that's fine by me. We'll take Eshuante Jones or Jai Lucas and be done with it. Regardless, I like the excitement Gordon has put back into the IU program. Now all we have to see is if Sampson can coach in the Big Ten.

Why does ESPN Classic suck so bad?
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 07:36 PM) I totally hear ya about this channel. Before it was ESPN Classic it was "Classic Sports Network" when it debuted in the late 90's ( 1997 or 1998 I think ) and it was AWESOME!!! I would get off work and click it on and there would be a great NHL Playoff game going ( who remembers "Frozen in Time" with Al Trautwig? ) , or a classic baseball game from the 60's or something, or MJ hitting the game winning shot against the Cavs in 1988 or a series of season reviews for the Bears in the 80's and 90's. Now it's all bulls***. They ran the world series of poker this whole last weekend for chrissakes. ESPN bought out this network and totally ruined it. I totally agree guys that this network has so much potential but it was totally spoiled. Exactly. I remember fighting my cable company to be able to get the channel about 5-6 years ago. It has gotten progressively worse since ESPN bought it out several years ago. I never even check to see what it on now.

Dating Advice Needed
QUOTE(shipps @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 12:24 AM) You should have felt her out on the first date to see if she might wanna do it again sometime. And you would have been able to tell in the way that she responded to that if she was really diggin you.But now your gonna have to just put yourself out there and ask her out again, just dont be so damn needy chix hate that.YOU ARE THE MAN!YOU ARE TOTALLY HOT!AND YOU ARE TO GOOD FOR HER!EVEN THOUGH YOU LIKE HER ANYWAYS AND POSSIBLY WANT TO MARRY HER SOMEDAY!YOU ARE THE MAN!Just tell yourself that. Simply change one word in that post and it gets much funnier and still makes perfect sense. "You should have felt her up on the first date...." QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Oct 22, 2006 -> 09:53 PM) Okay, I took this girl out last Friday who I had been watching Bears games with this year and have hung out with her at times. Two of my friends thought she liked me, as did I. I asked out and she said yes and we had a good date (at least I think) friday night. So, now I am clueless as what to do. What's my next step in terms of dating? What clues should I be looking for to see if she does indeed like me and that her yes to the first date was not out of niceness (if you know what I mean)? I need help, i really like this girl. What's my next step? - Call her What clues should I be looking for to see if she does indeed like me? - Stick your tongue down her throat. If she bites, consider it only a minor setback.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) We are talking about 17 y.o. kids here. They want to play and believe if they play they will get noticed. I know what you are saying, but if that was the case then programs like Boise State and TCU would never be good. Zook is not a great coach. But he knows what to tell kids to get them to come to his University. If I remember correctly, most of Florida's roster is still Zook players...except for Tebow, of course. Kids want to play...do they want to make money in the NFL? Sure. But they want to play. You just contradicted your own argument. Boise St and TCU get far from great recruiting classes. They win, because they get good players that are hungry to prove themselves and are coached well. To illustrate: Boise State 2005 4-stars - 1 3-stars - 5 2-stars - 10 2006 3-stars - 3 2-stars - 14 2007 2-stars - 6 TCU 2005 4-stars - 1 3-stars - 6 2-stars - 14 2006 3-stars - 10 2-stars - 8 2007 4-stars - 1 3-stars - 2 2-stars - 5 Hardly great recruiting classes.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 22, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) I'd agree 99 percent of the time, but these 2 are 2 of the best guards to come along in a decade, and are top 5 locks. And I'd be saying this even if both went to Illinois btw. I don't doubt that is what you and 99% of people out there think, but there are way too many things that can happen between now and then that would prevent that from happening. It may happen, but it is far from a forgone conclusion. Hell, Gordon may enjoy playing in his home state so much he chooses to stay. Rose, I don't know enough about, so my guess is he would be more likely to jump right away. But just because a guy is good enough to jump to the NBA doesn't mean that is what he will or should do.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 22, 2006 -> 05:04 AM) Huh? EJ and Rose will obviously be gone after 1 year, but damn, take it and ignore everybody else. Those 2 could EASILY Carmeloize the Hoosiers. While that is possible, let's not get ahead of ourselves. There are sophomores on rosters this year that everybody thought would only stay one year. Nothing is a done deal and making that assumption is a little premature before they have even played their 1st game of their senior year of HS.

I cannot fathom why a top player would choose to come to Illinois to play football right now. That program absolutely sucks and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Zook isn't much of a coach. All of the Arelious Benn's in the world won't help Illinois compete with the upper echelon in the Big Ten unless something else changes.

Gambling question...
QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) the houses take. you'll see that in a vegas casino, for every $10 you bet on a straight up bet (pts, etc) you will win $9.10 for every $10 bet. So in your example, you'd lose the $1,000 in one situation and win $910 in the other. The only way you make $ is if it falls inbetween. which can certainly happen in close games. Unless betting has changed recently, it works exactly the opposite. If you bet $100 and win, you win $100. If you lose, you pay $110. The vig is paid on a loss. Anyway, Abe you have hit on a gold mine opportunity for bettors. I used to do this all the time, risking $10 to win $200. All it would take is to win once out of 20 times to break even. I did fairly well several years ago doing this when betting with two local bookies. The only problem with this, and the reason you can't make a living doing it, is that the difference in the lines is rarely large enough to get the spread you need. Half points are helpful in that they keep your potential winnings on both ends, assuming the half points are on the right side. Lines are usually close enough, especially when betting thru Vegas, to make these situations rare.

Eric Gordon's affect on IU has no end. Hell the golf team will probably win the national title now. Maybe the baseball team will actually become good.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 01:12 PM) Eric Gordon is NOT a 4-star PG from Peoria. First thing you want to do before checking out other school's is decommit. Like you said, it's really non-binding. I am pissed at the Gordon family, but if I'm the other school, in this case IU, then I say, we will not actively recruit you until you decommit. You can visit, meet with the players, whatever, but coaches will NOT recruit. Maybe I'm just being bitter, but that's the kind of thing that would make the recruiting trail better. You can't "recruit" behind the scenes just in case a player decides to de-commit...that does two horrible things, one, it doesn't instill confidence in the player you ARE recruiting and two, if player one DOES sign a letter-of-intent, then you just pretty much screwed player two. The NCAA has to decide if this is a business or not. If it IS a business, then the above scenario is right. If not, the recruiting process needs to be fixed. Yeah, and everyone should quit their job before looking for another one. Makes perfect sense.

in need of advice
One of the funniest posts I have read in awhile. I know the ending already and you two aren't together anymore He_Gawn, but remember this for the future. Staying friends or at least keeping things cordial is the right way to go. If the girl breaks up but wants to remain friends tell her you will try, but she is going to have to give you some space. Don't call or talk to her for a few weeks (aside from the routine hi's and how ya doin's). If you want to stay friends once you are over her, then pursue that angle. If not, it's your call and the space she has given you makes for an easy transition. In the spirit of what Abe posted, I have found one thing about women. When horny, a woman often goes back to an ex if she is not seeing anyone. It's comfortable and it doesn't increase her "number". So she can have all the meaningless sex she wants with exes, but that doesn't increase the number of people she has had sex with. It's pretty strange logic if you ask me, but hey, if that's what a girl wants, it can come in handy at parties in college. Glad you moved on.

QUOTE(TaylorStSox @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) Illinois basketball will survive without Eric Gordon. The 05 team had 0 five star recruits. I believe in Coach Weber's ability to win games. Recruiting doesn't win games. How many blue chippers were on LSU and Florida? Thomas was a 3 star for christ sakes. The internet has overblown recruiting in the worst way. That's exactly what I have been trying to say. No need for everyone's panties in a bunch. The only reason this is a big deal for IU is that it is an Indiana kid, the type of kid that has been avoiding IU the past few years. While following recruiting is fun, I find it humorous that grown men make it into a life or death type situation, mostly doing so while sitting behind a keyboard. I mean is it really important to track what a 17-yr old kid does every day of his HS life. I mean it's getting to the point of being like the papparazzi in Hollywood.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 12:02 PM) I would not believe anything coming from the public in this situation. This is college basketball recruiting, remember? Everyone will just try to save face. And if anyone actually believes that committing the day of Indiana Midnight Madness was not a scripted ending, I have to say that you are clearly blind. So in other words, don't listen to the public, but trust everything you say. Yeah right. That works.

QUOTE(zenryan @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 01:01 AM) I am not going to defend the Miami players for fighting. They should have never been running onto the field like that to start with, they know better than that.. but... I just love how its Miami's fault. There are two teams on that field, and if anyone saw any of the game then they would know that FIU was instigating the whole thing from the opening kick off. Just about every play there was a FIU player trying to start something. From piling up after plays, to pushing and shoving, getting slapped in the back of the head and elbows being thrown on a safety after he makes an INT and gets tackled. I also find it funny that no one on tv is talking about the FIU player swinging his crutches around at Miami players, just Reddick using his helmet as a weapon. and one of the commentators was Lamar Thomas. he played in the thug years and he is part of Miami that Butch Davis and Coker are trying to get away from. Regardless of who instigated it, that doesn't make it right. Miami is the program in the spotlight so they will receive more of the attention. Very simply, I this seals the deal on Coker being gone. The university administration can't excuse this and unfortunately, the responsibilty has to fall back to the head coach. And Lamar Thomas is an idiot. If he ever broadcasts another UM game, then the problem is Miami. The administration has to look at what these things make their school look like and act accordingly. Otherwise, the "thug" comments will never end. I just realized that it was Lamar Thomas that got the ball stripped by George Teague on what should have been an easy touchdown in the beating Alabama put on the 'Canes National Championship hopes in 1991.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) To clear something up, Gordon has been silently committed to IU for weeks now, although made no mention of this to anyone in the Illinois program. I've learned in some even greater detail about the story, and I can't help but think Gordon Sr is a slime ball as is Sampson for how he handled the situation. I've also learned the exact details behind KU's probation from a KU booster. Pretty funny story if anyone wants to hear it. Sure that fits right along with this... I'm sure his HS coach knew nothing of the information you seem to be locked into. Makes perfect sense.
