Recruiting Thread
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 10:12 PM) Theoretically, that's a recruiting violation. You're not supposed to discuss recruits in any way until they sign. Edit- That's what I thought, it just says "sources." That could mean a lot of things, not necessarily that one of the coaches let it slip. leaking info is much different than commenting about a player on the record.... if leaks were illegal, we'd never find out about anything Like others have said, I'm just happy he isn't following Huggins.

Is it possible at one of these sites to have a private game with only SoxTalk members? Playing for fun rather than real money would be cool with me.

QUOTE(bmags @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) animal house isn't even that funny... dazed and confused shoulda been way higher. Animal House is damned funny! I think part of the reason it was #1 is that is was somewhat ground breaking as well. I'm also disappointed Hollywood Knights didn't land on the list. I thought some of the movies were ranked in precarious spots, but opinions vary so that doesn't bother me so much.

Minor League games
I've been putting this off for a day or two, but here goes, to the best of my recollection. There is no way I can remember every great player I have seen, but I'll toss out a few. The entire Southern League, every year from 1997 to 2004. Birmingham Barons - Buehrle, Carlos Lee, Crede, Rowand, Cotts, McCarthy, many others.. Carolina Mudcats - Miguel Cabrera, Juan Pierre Chattanooga Lookouts - Adam Dunn Huntsville Stars - Tejada, Fielder, Hardy, Weeks, Sheets Jacksonville Suns - Juan Encarnacion Mississippi/Greenville Braves Mobile BayBears - Jake Peavey Montgomery Biscuits - Delmon Young, Carl Crawford (might have been with Orlando before the move) Tennessee Smokies - Yadier Molina, Dan Haren West Tenn Diamon Jaxx - Mark Prior, Corey Patterson, Hee Sop Choi Orlando Rays - Kerry Wood Memphis Chicks - Ryan Franklin Other teams: Columbus Clippers - Derek Jeter Rochester Red Wings - Brad Tyler Omaha Royals - Sal Fasano Indianapolis Indians Louisville Bats Nashville Sounds Edmonton Trappers? - Eric Chavez Memphis Redbirds Salt Lake Buzz Bowie Baysox Charleston Riverdogs Can't remember who played vs. Charleston or Bowie (New Britain Rock Cats, maybe?) Way back when, as a kid: Evansville Triplets Denver Bears Oklahoma City 89'ers Several others, I'm sure......... Man, just trying to remember all the teams was tough enough, let alone trying to remember players. Taking the time to come up with all the teams was tough, but it surprised me. I am sure there are others, I forgot.

Radar Guns
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) Well, one problem can be where the gun is aimed. You'll get three drastically different readings if you're measuring the speed right out of the pitcher's hand, when the pitch is on it's way to the plate, and when it crosses the plate. That could easily be a 6 MPH difference from one end of the spectrum to the other. The other problem is that it's a precision instrument that's going to need to be calibrated fairly regularly, and it probably isn't. I'm not exactly a science major, but that's the way I always understood it. It shouldn't need to be calibrated as long as they check it with a tuning fork each day. You are correct on the other factors. One other is the distance from home plate the gun resides.

Minor League Manager goes nuts!
QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 11:33 PM) I thought this was the franchise that wanted to promote character? It was a freakin show put on by the manager. He didn't punch anyone. He didn't touch anyone. He just yelled and added a little theatrics. This has nothing to do with "character". Hell, when Wally had his outburst, after he was finished, he winked and smiled at Juan Nieves, the pitching coach, on his way into the clubhouse. This is funny to watch, but no big deal folks.

Minor League Manager goes nuts!
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 07:56 AM) Wow. I wonder if this guy will have a job this morning? Sure he will. He'll get suspended for 5-10 games (more likely 5 depending on what was said more than what was done). He's employed by the Colorado Rockies. His "owner" isn't really an issue.

Minor League Manager goes nuts!
Minor League Manager doing his best Lou Piniella impression Click on the link below for a hilarious video of a Minor League manager doing his best Lou Piniella impression on an umpire. As good as this was, it still wasn't as good as the show Wally Backman put on a few years ago in Birmingham. Wally's show was similar, but it was at 3B. The base went much farther when he threw it. As he walked to the plate, the bat boy had put baseballs on home plate since the home plate umpire was out trying to calm down Wally. Wally kicked the four baseballs like a FG attempt. Then add about a dozen more bats, two water coolers and the gum/seed bucket and you have Wally's show. Nonetheless, this is worth the look.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 10:49 PM) Actually: So, I'm not judging him off of some stupid ass commercial, I'm just not a big fan of his sound and believe me I am not one to hate on unique styles (anyone who knows what kind of music I like can vouch for this). It's just something about his singing that I'm not a fan of. If you haven't seen the show, then what have you heard him sing?

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) ^^^ HAHA, yes, he is horrible. I didn't see a single episode of the show but I've heard him sing a few times, horrid. Even worse is that they play that commercial non-stop during Sox games. You guys are gonna judge him from a commercial? GMAB Taylor's great. He puts on a great love show and has a huge following. Ignore the Ford commercial and his new American Idol-produced single. He'll last in the biz and make good music. He is definitely worth catching live. He played here in Birmingham last weekend, twice. Once, just rippin on the harmonica with Snoop Dog and Sunday with his former band, Little Memphis Blues Orchestra. If you are looking for a largely commercial voice, you are looking at the wrong guy.
