  1. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) Why wouldnt you just have the two year old hold the petri dish and then take the two year old? That way, you're saving one and he's saving the other. I still wouldn't bother with the dish, honestly. If it's a real fire, I'm grabbing the kid and getting the hell out of there.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 12:22 PM) Fair enough. I'm not trying to start anything. Just wanted to express my opinion. Carry on. It's the New & Improved SLM/Filibuster boards! --Can you feel the love?
  3. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) Not. Well, OK, I wouldn't expect you to find the humor in it, but I'm guessing others may have gotten a chuckle or 2 out of it.

  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 03:59 PM) Pizza joint...? Family vacation out to dinner and you want to send them to a pizza joint... For one night? Sure. They have a 13 year old boy with them, and they're from England. And Connie's isn't some shack with a couple tables thrown about. It's a nice casual place. If he suggested he wanted to hit some high-priced, classy place, then obviously I'd have picked someplace else.
  8. QUOTE(DePloderer @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) You guys don't rake your sons then? It's the only way to keep them tidy. As long as the food is hot and tastey I have no preference, fast food is fast food. I suppose I'd prefere something that might be typical to Chicago, not available the world over,deffinatly not Mac's or Subway. As for the family night out, where do you fella's with families take them when eating out? First thing that popped into my head was Connie's on Archer. It's defintely Chicago, it's close to the park, it's family friendly, and pretty darned good eats.
  9. Obviously, the closer you get to the field, the better, but there really are no bad seats in the place. Try to stay somewhere in the lower deck, JMHO. That sounds painful. You must be quite the taskmaster Some are, some aren't. Most newer stadiums have pretty decent seats no matter where you are. Some of the older ones, like Wrigley, have obstructed view seats and some other areas where you really don't get a good view of the game This season, online. Or you can always try the box office Jimbo's or Schaller's Pump, or even the parking lot where tailgating is encouraged! Yep You're in Chicago, take your pick Again, lots too choose from, some preferences would be of assistance In my opinion, since you'll have the kid with you, get there early and have a little tailgate party, if you don't want to bring food to cook, there's a couple good hotdog places right on 35th st. Then, enter the stadium early and catch some BP, and let your son take advantage of the Fundamentals area above left field. After that, take a stroll all the way around the concourse and look at the field from different angles, hit a gift shop, etc. Just too much to list. If you could give some ideas as to what you like or don't like, it would help narrow down the choices a bit.
  10. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 10:16 AM) Enough with the needling. That's not what this guy thinks:
  11. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 08:22 PM) I guess you're right. Better they spend their time shooting 78 year old men I guess. Have you EATEN at Friday's? It sure made me angry enough to shoot someone.
  12. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) well, i guess that means they'll vote to atleast limit the practice of abortion. It means nothing, it's a fart in the wind.
  13. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) This wasn't done on government time. Yeah right, they got together at TGI FRidays for lunch on Saturday and hammered out the rough draft.
  14. Here's an unpopular take on this: There are hundred of thousands of unadopted children in this country. And once they pass age 11, their chances of getting adopted are very slim. There are countless others who were unwanted by their parents, but their parents kept them due to family pressure, religious reasons, etc. These kids are miserable, and for every one that will beat the odds and become a happy, well-adjusted adult, how many others will feel unloved and worthless their whole lives? So, while I still believe that abortion is a nasty thing and should not be entered into lightly, I wonder if forcing people to have an unwanted child isn't the best plan. Even if they want the abortion just because they dont want a kid, realistically, is it a good idea to ask them to bring another unwanted child into the world? Is not living worse than living a mostly miserable life? Since nobody knows what it's like to be dead, can anyone have the answer? These thoughts only apply to very early term abortions. Just thoughts here, not a set in stone philosophy.
  15. I'm sorry, I'm not impressed. It's like a giant collective campaign promise-- sounds and looks good on paper, but in reality will not be carried out at all, and nobody will really care. Less statements, less feel-good-about-ourselves bulls***, more action. More putting up and more shutting up. Quit wasting tax dollars composing stupid worthless "Up With Catholic Politicians" mantras and do your f***ing jobs.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 12:25 PM) Dude, have ya ever hung around the Filibuster? Seriously though, yes there is a significant increase in the cost for the Hybrid system on the order of a couple thousand dollars, however, as gas prices keep going up, the impact of that additional 15-20 mpg (depending on how and where it's driven) is getting closer and closer to being cost-effective. Also out here in CA you get to drive in the carpool lanes without carpooling. But, in the case of the Honda hybrid Civic, the mph difference isn't 15-20, it's more like 5-10. Even at 15-20 mph, look at the numbers: An average driver puts 15000 miles on his car every year. The hybrid costs about $3000 more than the regular one. Using $2.25/gal as the gas price, you only save $375 a year on gas(using 30 mpg for the regular, and 45 mpg for the hybrid). You'd have to keep that car for 8 years to make up the difference in price, and that doesn't count the battery replacement on the hybrid, which is very expensive.
  17. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 12:29 PM) Yeah, I'd say that this warrants some serious investigation. I'm not ususally one to hold bias against a country like this, but in this case, I think its prudent. UAE, at best, can't get itself secured, and at worst, may be complicit in terror. A UAE government-run company managing 6 of our ports? Bad idea. One clarification, Balta - the thread title is misleading. The port isn't being bought - its management organization is being bought. The physical place still belongs to the US or private interests, as far as I can tell. Just a small thing, but worth noting. It's OK to be biased against a whole country in this instance, because only like 37 people live there, they have a pre-capita income of $20 million-- and they're all bad.
  18. A 19-page thread dedicated to a hunting accident? I'm starting to understand why our public office-holders never seem to be concerned with anything important
  19. Who the f*** thought this was a good idea?!
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) If the Fiancee keeps her job long enough for us to be able to afford to pay the wedding and the down payment on a car, sometime early next spring I'll either be going out and buying a Prius, an Insight, or a Civic Hybrid, depending on the deals people shoot me/model redesigns, etc. Don't do that, unless you're doing it 100% for environmental reasons.
  21. QUOTE(smalls2598 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 06:29 PM) Within the next few months, I'm looking to purchase a new 2006 Honda Civic EX Sedan. I'm looking to go more towards the economical road and trade in my gas-guzzling Monte Carlo. I've done a bit of research on the Civic, mainly from Edmunds.com, plus a buddy at work gave me one of those pamphlets he picked up at the dealership. It looks like the car that will best suite my needs, and i love the estimated 30 city/40 highway. anyways, for those of you who currently own a Civic: What kind of gas mileage are you getting (especially in the city)? what do you love about the car? any regrets on purchasing it? can you reccomend a good dealer in the Chicagoland area? when responding, please state the year and style of your car. thanks! (I don't know if Gene Honda Civic actually owns a Civic, or just uses a clever take off the announcer's name) I have a 2003 EX. I love it. I get 30 mph in traffic, easily 34-36 on the highway. I love it's fuel-efficiency, it's got a decent amount of space, the turning radius is fantastic, and the gauges are this really cool fluorescent blue color. I have no regrets about purchasing it, but the lack of punch in the engine gets to me every now and then. But, you can't expect good acceleration times in a Civic. If you tell me abouts where you're located, I can get you a list of reputable dealers.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 11:29 AM) It's 2006... if you can't afford a 3rd child.. take measures not to have one... JMO.
