  1. QUOTE(S720 @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 01:56 PM) Well, my bill the other month was $456.00. Last month was $389.00. I have a two-story Georgian house with new windows installation. How do I know for sure that it was an actual read or estimated? Should I follow your path and report them to BBB? I have a tall 2-story victorian frame house, with no insulation on the exterior walls. Windows were upgraded, but they're crappy windows, and my gas bill was $250 each of the last 2 months. Unless you keep the heat at 75 all day and night, I'd ask some questions.
  2. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 9, 2006 -> 12:35 PM) I always understood the idea of keeping all options open, but it seems to me that responsible countries never regard this as a viable option. In fact, it seems to be the option of the people we're currently fighting against. Mr Wong, what makes it acceptable to kill a foreign leader? What is the last resort? The last resort, good sir Kickass, comes at the point in which negotiation, economic sanctions, and attempts at removal have not worked or swayed a particular leader from committing acts deemed unacceptable by the world community. For example, should Kim Jong II make a direct threat of nuclear attack on another country, or if we should find evidence of him slaughtering thousands of members of a particular group, then the first step is negotiation, then economic pressure, etc. If those should prove ineffective, then the next step is removal, perhaps Saddam Hussein-style. If that doesn't work, unfortunately, we are then at the last resort.
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 9, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) Peoples energy has to be one of the most crooked companies out there. My bill for last month =510 dollars. I called them and asked how could a 2 bedroom 2 bath condo with an efficient furnace use that much gas. They said they estimated my usage and that was the value they came up with. The lady on the phone told me there was nothing she could do. I then had no other course of action other than filing a BBB claim against them. Long story short, they came to my condo, read the meter, and my new bill is $108 for the month. I refuse to sign up for that "budget plan" that the gas companies offer for this exact reason. They "estimate" your gas usage and charge accordingly. There is no way in hell I trust them to do this with scruples.
  4. In a perfect world, all countries would get their citizens together every few years or so and come to an agreement on who the best person would be to lead their people for awhile. If they made a bad choice, c'est la vie, we'll just pick someone new next time. Also in this utopian example, those selected leaders would at least try their best to act in the best interests of those he represented, and only in the interests of those he represents. However, as any 1st grader could certainly tell you, this ain't a perfect world. And as we must live and deal with reality, and not what should be, that unfortunately includes handling situations in which people who would think nothing of laying waste to groups of people based on race, religion, economic standing, etc., find a way to obtain enough power/resources in order to do just that. Now, while I'm not advocating butting in to another country's business anytime some slightly off-center loony gains command of a nation, I do argue that there are certain situations where, as a last resort, the U.S.A.(or other nation) needs to be "pro-active" in the spirit of the best interests of the world as a whole. I reiterate, assassinations of foreign leaders should be a very rare thing, and should only be used when all other methods have been exhausted. Sometimes, sadly, there is no other choice.
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 04:36 PM) Liberal=wanting to take it in the can, or wanting to be acknowledged for taking it in the can. Heads=Liberal. You make the connection You'd think someone as smart as he claims to be wouldn't attempt something as idiotic as pigeonholing all people into one of 2 groups, but, here we are....
  6. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 05:30 PM) The Juggs thread is over. In case you wondered, the official results were a 29-29 tie. Isn't that nice? And I never voted. I thought one person couldn't make a difference.
  7. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) I have to go so this will be my last post for today: The social CON/LIB questionaire: Do you think the government should do nothing about abortion on demand? NO = CON, YES = LIB Do you think tax dollars should fund contraceptive distribution in HS? NO = CON, YES = LIB Do you believe the mention of God, any talk of spirituality, & any reference to the Bible, Koran, Torah, etc. should be forbidden in public schools? NO = CON, YES = LIB Do you believe some illicit drugs (narcotics) should be legal? NO = CON, YES = LIB Do you believe the existing porn-culture of America is a good thing? NO = CON, YES = LIB Do you believe the Kinsey institute is right in advocating incest should be legal? NO = CON, YES = LIB The economic CON/LIB questionaire: Do you believe government should be allowed to grow & raise taxes to solve as many problems as possible? NO = CON, YES = LIB Do you believe America is better off with big government & high taxes? NO = CON, YES = LIB Do you believe government should continue to fund horses*** programs like PPH? NO = CON, YES = LIB Should the government be in the business of assisting baby-killers? NO = CON, YES = LIB Are teacher's unions beneficial to education? NO = CON, YES = LIB Do you think it's reasonable that public education costs on avg $10K/yr pe r child? NO = CON, YES = LIB Do you think it's reasonable that the avg administrator makes more than the teacher? NO = CON, YES = LIB I was considering putting CON always = NO, YES always = LIB up at the top but then I remembered the target audience. If you answered NO to all congratulations! You are part of the higher order of man. If you answered a few YES, you have some work to do. If you answered mostly YES, may you seek abortion & the morning pill as your resolution to procreation. If you answered YES to all shame, shame, shame! If I offered to find you a job in France would you consider moving? plus

  10. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) That's a lie. I've admitted I've been wrong & apologized on more than one occasion. 12. After much research, the true identity of Juggernaut has been revealed:
  13. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) That's about the level of comprehension I would expect from the left. She does her own homework. I just supplied an answer key for her Mom to help her with.
  14. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) Hey if your ignorant to what cyborg technology is than I'm not surprised you would attempt to make fun of any reference to it. But that doesn't change the fact it will become a normal part of society in most of our lifetimes. But you need a Phd or at least an MS in CS/CE plus a job in the field of robotics to understand that. Old Glory Insurance, for when the metal ones decide to come for you. And they will.
  15. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 10:38 AM) But I don't believe that in any way, shape, or form. We're not at the top of any evolutionary chain, and thinking of evolution in a purpose-directed way like that is exactly the type of anthropocentrism and teleology that has no place in real evolution research and debate. Evolutionary "trees" are almost as bad a metaphor as "chains". Rather, think of the whole of organic evolution as better represented as a cross between the classic tree analogy and spokes on a bicycle wheel. A central origin gives rise to several outward radiating lines. Each of these lines can divide furtther until you get to the rim of the wheel. That is the present time. Not all of the spokes make it to the rim because many lines go extinct, while those that do represent the successful evolutionary lines that have survived to the present time. ALL of these spokes have to be considered the winners thus far in life on earth, because they persist while otther lines have gone extinct. Humans are but one spoke – and a very, very short spoke at that. We have been wildly successful, yes, and that success has been because our brains have become specialized over time, as opposed to the wings of some other successful group, or the specialized sucking moutth parts of some successful insect group, the capacity to non-lethally infect vast numbers of hosts in some successful parasite, etc. We're not at the top of any of these surviving evolutionary lines (unless you count our ability to selectively extirpate some of these as a measure of success). The bottom line is survival of populations and, hence, species, by successfully passing through the selective environmental filters in each generation and producing a maximum number of progeny with the inhereted capacity to do the same in successive generations. Using that measure, man is neck and neck with all other extant evolutionary linnes. As usual, you are wrong, it is because of your one-sided interpretation of the term "evolutionary chain." I had a conversation with a Mongolian monk in a chat room this week, and in Mongolia there is research being done that does not separate the spiritual "link" from the biometaphysichemical "chain." By understanding this philosophy, it is not hard to fathom that humanity will soon be replaced at the top of the chain by cyborgs. Being as intelligent as I am, it can be hard to find others who have all the answers like I do, and then be able to discuss them in a spiritual context. Only a left-wing nutjob would attempt to argue otherwise, but on these boards the liberal slant is not surprising. Sound about right?
  16. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 05:30 PM) Just commenting on my experience. Lots of '05's left from what I've seen over the past few weeks. Actually, I should clarify. Lots of 05's may be found at foreign car dealers, it's the American mfgr's that won't have many 2005's left. There certainly will be exceptions to that rule as well. Some guys will have more 05's than others, i was speaking as a general rule is all.
  17. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) It's good to know you are a skeptic as to believing we will enter the cyborg age before the 22nd century & the synthetic life age before the 23rd century. You are clearly in for a rude awakening as we are beginning to take our first steps into the cyborg age in the 21st century. Just 20 yrs from now the well-to-do will have augmented minds. You can bet on it. The current administration in this country can't even see clear to approve stem-cell research, and you think people will have brain modifcations in two decades, eh? Maybe it will happen in Japan. Go there at once and report back your findings.
  18. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 04:04 PM) Whatever car you decide on, and if you're going new, wait till March. Big incentives as they try to unload the rest of the '05's. Actually, no, most dealers were more than cleared out of 2005's after the "Employee Discount Pricing" promos over the summer. There just isn't that much to clear out. If you want to get the best deal, look at late model used cars(5 years old and newer.) The new car discounts killed the used market since last summer, and it's only now starting to turn for the better. Expect to get a better deal if you're buying Big 3 over foreign, simply because they're struggling whereas most foreign cars are doing fine. As for where to look, AutoTrader.com and Cars.com are the best places to look for used cars, AutoTrader being better(but I'm just a bit biased because I work there lol). If you want new, go through the manufacturers sites-- they'll let you customize the model you want, then get price quotes from different dealers. Make sure to do your research on NADAGuides.com and Edmunds.com first, so you know what the going rate is beforehand. Need any other car help, I'd be glad to oblige.
  19. QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) Is "left-wing nut job" really needed here? Is that enough to get him banned for life? Pretty please? Maybe Andrew Jackson would change the mod's minds......
  20. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 05:03 PM) On the surface you would think that accept for two things: 1) China's investment rate in Latin America 2) Economic power has a greater impact on culture than mere population 3) China's investment rate in America I see your math skills are as terrible as your debating skills. And I'm putting the odds at 50-50 that you go on some nonsensical rant about how only left-wing nutjobs think 2 = 2 and 3 = 3. The Japanese are excellent mathematicians, they will help you when you get there. The sooner you get there, the quicker you can remedy this problem.
  21. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) Now I suspect someone on the board will weigh in with "blame the parents" again but that simply states the left-wing ideology for everything: "we are right, you are wrong, & don't expect a compromise of any kind". Wait, did you have on a straight face when you wrote that? Seriously? You may have been distracted when you posted that, most likely by a discussion you're having about your willingness to compromise your views on homework, or perhaps bulimia, or free agency rules.
  22. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 02:09 PM) I'm not surprised that most of you would not understand the meaning of the word obsession. Go look it up. The meaning is clear. In general you do not find any "obsessive" attitude any where close to what you do in America in the rest of the world. Only a left-wing nut job would suggest obsessive behavior = personal freedom. The rest of us rightly view it as a lack of dignity, decency, discipline, & self control. You're wasting valuable packing time. Stop posting at once and get those boxes ready for Okinawa.
  23. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) The fact that Evolution by Natural Selection is being taught in American high schools is a good thing. The context in which it's being taught is not. I recently discusses this over a chat with a Japanese father & he says that doesn't exist in Japan. He said that they include a parallel of Buddhist teachings to relate ENS to reincarnation. He said the idea here is that the child grows up with those teachings prior to being taught ENS so by co-relating the two ideas it makes it easier for the child to remember & understand ENS. He believes similar methods are used in China & S Korea as well. Hopefully as America evolves to being more asian & more hispanic the liberal idealism that creates such a rift in our society will fade away. Sounds like you'd be happier if you moved to Japan. Correction, there's a whole BUNCH of people that would be happier if you moved to Japan. MAke sure you have a firm grasp on the language first, however, they don't accept homework assignments in English.
  24. Here's a good reason why the church shouldn't be allowed to handle these things on their own: "During a deposition in August, Joliet Bishop Joseph Imesch said a priest skinny-dipping and playing poker in the nude with young boys was "inappropriate," but because Imesch did not consider it to be sexual abuse, he moved the priest to another parish, according to court documents unsealed Thursday." Nice work, bishop Imesch, you stupid jackass.
  25. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 04:04 PM) I was making a seperate point. I understood what you said just fine and I agree that we dont need to make a special ID that costs people money, especially when a simple photo ID gets it done. Problem is you have idiots like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton crying their eyes out charging racism just because people want voters to show ANY form of ID when they go in to vote. If everyone has to show ID in order to vote, then I can't follow their logic as to how this could be perceived as a racist motion. Of course, considering the source, logic may not have come into play at all.
