  1. im headed to krispy kreams now... a trade of food is in order here......where do i send it too????? Let me figure out how to package up the tacos and a couple other local treats. I wonder if dry ice and a styrofoam coller would work? Hey Tex, I work in the food industry, and we ship things across the country all the time using the very things you mentioned. Dry ice and a styrofoam cooler work great, we've even done it with ice cream.
  2. Yes, there is defintely something to be said for a job where you can essentially just show up and collect a check evry two weeks! I think Hart drafted well in The Land That Set The River On Fire, but I don't think most of his moves turned out well. What did he get for Burnitz? Sexson? Casey? Giles? I can't think of one player of consequence he got for any of these guys. It also seemed like Cleveland was always a pitcher short of going all the way, and that never seemed to get addressed though. Wasn't their rotation in the 97 series Wright, Colon, Hershiser, Nagy and Ogea? I would say though that signing Alomar and Fryman, and not signing Belle seemed to be the right decisions.
  3. That's why they aren't here. He's shopping for the best airfare. He's got them both waiting standby at the airport. Alomar's spent the last 2 nights sleeping in the United terminal at LaGuardia.
  4. I think everett's a little better fielder than people here are giving him credit for, I'm just not sure if what he brings fills any holes really. He's not as good in CF as Rowand, and his career numbers don't tell us he'll hit all that much better either. He's a switch hitter, which helps I guess. I think it really depends on what we give up for him. If it's 2 AAA scrubs and a A prospect, then fine. If it's Cotts, Ginter and another top-tier guy, then it's stupid.
  5. I have no problem with a pitcher who says he's tired if the manager asks him how he's doing. Can't that also be taken as putting the team first ahead of personal goals? And don't lots of pitchers go through dead-arm periods from time to time? Won't the AS break give him enough rest to overcome it?
  6. Hart is no fool? Isn't he the guy that signed Chan Ho Park, overpaid for ARod, has no major league starters to speak of(OK, maybe Valdez) and keeps allowing Scott Boras to dictate their draft choices? Maybe these actions are coming from higher up, but then he's a fool regardless. Just mho
  7. Colon has looked (on the mound) the way he's looked over his entire career. He's not an emotions-on-the-sleeve guy on the field. He's fine, not every player acts like Jose Lima(thank god). You have to remember that, with the exception of last season, Colon has always been a very good pitcher, even a #1 starter, but by no means a lights-out stud ala Pedro, Unit, Maddux.
  8. I am almost positive that Jimenez does not have any options left.
  9. "Get busy"... When is the last time you were at the park? that was my thought but I was too chicken s*** to say it That was like.. ummm... mid 80's..? Err, I think he's referring to the Sean Paul song "Get Busy," which I think is currently floating around the Billboard Top 40.

    Hey all

OK, I'm curious. Why are you coming back? Were you kicked off for some reason? Were your posts a little too x-rated or something?
  11. Closers are the most overrated, overpaid players in baseball. You get an everyday player for a minor league closer, you've made a great deal every time. Outside of 2 or 3 guys, closers are all about the same, and none of them have that much effect on a team's overall performance. If you can't find a guy to come in and get 3 outs with a 3 or less run lead consistently, you have bigger problems than a lack of a closer. Boston doesn't have one, they're doing fine. Montreal's is a converted unproven starter. Atlanta's is an ex-starter(yeah, Smoltz is a unique case, no doubt). Oakland has a different closer every year. Guardado and Percival are good, but so what? Minny's on a huge slide, and Anaheim is going nowhere. St. Louis hasn't had a closer until a week ago. The Cubs closer was a journeyman reliever cut by 397 teams. Closers = overrated, nice job KW
  12. So what do we think happens to Jimenez now? And what's up with Almonte's numbers this year? Wasn't he supposed to be a future closer too?
  13. Did anyone see any of the Braves Marlins game last night? Pierre leads off against Maddux by slapping an outside pitch to left for a single, then steals second. Castillo up next, puts down the bunt to get Pierre over to third, and winds up beating Maddux's throw to first. IRod then hit a 3-run dinger. The thought of having those two guys at the top of our order gives me a warm, tingling sensation. Got get 'em, KW.
  14. I love this idea, and I think it's well within the scope of reality. I think FLA would want another minor-league arm in addition to those guys, which I'd have no problem with. How is Pierre's defense? He can't possibly have an arm, He looks like an anorexic Tom Goodwin.
  15. "Shampoo is better, I go on first and clean the hair." "No, conditioner is better, I make the hair silky and smooth."
  16. Haven't heard it suggested here, but why not make a run at Shannon Stewart? Good leadoff guy, can he play CF?
  17. If it helps Chicken Little from having an embellism, the reason you can have some confidence in Loaiza is A)He has dedicated himself to throwing and prepearing between starts, something he never did before, and B)He added a cut fastball to his repetoire, something he didn't have before. As opposed to Eldred, whose fluke year came from simply being healthy and using what made him successful in the past, Loaiza's success is due to a change in both his committment to being a good pitcher, and adding a new weapon to his pitch arsenal. I think the big question is after this season, when he'll be due to make a LOT more than the league minimum, will he maintain the level of preparation next year?
  18. Only guy I can think of that played with Klesko is Graffanino. Does that sound right?
  19. I think people pull for PK because he has that "blue collar appeal" that Sox fans love to get behind. He's not slick, not a chiseled physical specimen, not a terrific athlete. He appears to be a hard worker who has to hustle to get what he has. I think he has an everyman quality about him that is endearing to White Sox faithful. Seems like a guy you could go out and have a beer with. Remember when we got John Kruk? He had as big a following as anyone on the team, and he was here for what, 2/3rds of a season? As for the race bias, I think that claim is entirely without merit. We haven't had many players of color that fit the Konerko "mold" over the last 20 years or so, but I think Ozzie Guillen qualifies, and Sox fans loved him, I know I did at least.
  20. Jimenez is still 3rd on the team in OBP among regulars, and he bats lefty--he ain't going nowhere. He may be brainless at times, but if the Sox are going to do anything, it's gonna have to be with him.
  21. I don't think JM will have to make any changes at the break if they don't play well between now and then. KW and JR will be making changes for him.
  22. I've been reading that Twins have a TON of clubhouse dissention going on right now, primarily because players like Guardado and Hawkins(who have both played with Minn their entire careers) are free agents at year's end, and have been told there wouldn't be any contract negotiations until after the season. Pile on top of that the 10-12 players eligible for arbitration who will be going up against Carl Pohlad, and you have a whole clubhouse of guys starting to worry about next year. Add to that the fact that they haven't playing well(didn't they lose 2 of 3 to the Brewers? The Brewers? That's like losing 2 of 3 to the Tigers..Oh wait, I'll shut up now.) and you have a team ripe for crushing. The Sox, based on their performance against good teams over the last couple weeks, are in a perfect position to do some serious damage. If they don't pull very close in the next 2 weeks, I hope there is a White Flag II.
  23. How many times has it been brought up already that it took a pitcher to teach the Sox how to bunt?
  24. Wow, this is getting embarassing. I luv Shawn Estes. Fire Jerry Manuel.
