What's with all the wisdom tooth horror stories? I had my top two removed a couple years ago, and I was only given Novocaine. I ate a beef sandwhich 2 hours later(it took me quite a bit longer to get it down though) and was out drinking that night. Yes, it was sore for days afterwards, but it certainly wasn't all that bad. If they're impacted, that's a different story though. Impacted = mal y trieste.

Flash, I may not be hip anymore(graduated DePaul in 1996), but I believe there are a few things you need to know about college that are true for any generation. 1) If you hate writing papers, pick a business major. 2) Take a friday night class if they're offered--the teacher NEVER keeps you there for the duration, especially if it's the second semester 3) Spend a lot of time at Hawkeye's and other Taylor street haunts. 4) Avoid all teachers that allow attendance to affect your final grade--look up their syllabus to check. 5) If you have to do a group project for a class, don't be that guy that just sits there until the teacher assigns you to a group. Find the hottest chick in the room and tell her you want a really good grade on the project, so you need her help. 6) Tell your teacher on the first day of class that you work alot to pay tuition -- This used to get pity grades, but I think it's too common a situation to work anymore. Try it out and see what happens. 7) Make friends with someone who lives in the dorms as soon as you can. Makes commuter life a little more tolerable 8) Don't major in philosophy, it's just useless. 9) Sell all your textbooks back to the bookstore as soon as the class is over. You'll never look at them again, trust me. 10) Sacrifice some of your GPA to make sure you have enough life experiences. Once you get your first job after graduation, nobody will ever care if you had a 2.3, or a 4.0. This does not apply to law school, or med school students. Good Luck!

Breaking News: Sox acquire Scott Sullivan
Wong & Owens replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sullivan is essentially a free agent at the end of the season. Although I think KW gets outmaneaved in some instances the only trade that has cost us is the Ritchie trade. We have Pachero because Colorado gave up on him and we got him for absolutely nothing, same thing for Damaso Marte. I love how many people on this site think we should be picking up players for nothing. The Giants gave up Ortiz and Livan Hernandez and although they running away with the NL West, these were very questionable moves. I remember reading that giving up Joe Valentine would be the end all for the White Sox, well Joe Valentine is now with the Reds and was a throw in for Jose Guillen. Somehow Neil Cotts was a nothing in the deal and now he is in our rotation and if he was traded this whole site would be up in arms. I think Alomar was a steal even if Royce Ring becomes the next Gramhe Lloyd. everyone wants us to get Bonds and A-Rod and what not but we are not suppossed to give up any minor leaguer that has any ability at all. Other than Kip Wells, whom I never really liked, KW has not cost us anything and somehow has a rotation and lineup that thas made me interested. In 2000 I did not think we had a chance becasue our starting pitching was pathetic. This year I am not sure what is going to happen but I like the team we put out there everyday. After this season teh A's will have none of the players from the Foulke trade, we will have all three, two of them on teh major league roster. Sounds like a good trade to me. Thank you for that post. You read my mind. I don't understand why some people can't get their heads around the concept that, no matter how highly rated they are, or how well they're doing in the minors, ALL prospects are gambles. Whenever you have a chance to pick up a PROVEN major league player for a pennant chase, you give up any minor leaguer you have to. There's a draft every year, you can always get more "prospects." Imagine what you could have gotten for Joe Borchard a year or two ago.. "No! Not our future savior Joe Borchard!" Well, Joe f***ing Borchard is impressing NOBODY at any level any more, and with each passing day he looks more and more like another over-hyped prospect. -
GAME THREAD (8-21): Team Viagra vs. White Sox
Wong & Owens replied to BridgeportHeather's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Minor Leaguers are currency. How many winning teams have more than 4-5 good players that they drafted and developed from the start? And you have how many players in a minor league system? hundreds? You have a chance to do something now, you take it. Trade all your A players if you have to. -

I missed that, what happened with Scott Sullivan? -
I like disturbing stuff, and I've been waiting to see that movie for awhile now. Is it out for rental yet? Would Blockbuster even carry it?

Whoops, his career ERA is 3.91. Sorry.

OK, here's my question, and apologies in advance if this has alreeady been addressed. If Colon doesn't have better numbers because he only puts forth max. effort when he feels like it, then I don't understand why he would have been so inclined to put forth the effort last season. He started with Cleveland, obviously rebuilding, then went to Montreal, who was in a pennant race. This season, he is in a pennant race, but now doesn't care? I don't know the guy, nor do I have any inside info, but I think this year's Colon is as good as you can expect. I think many people have overrated him as an ace starter. He's very good at times, but he's not Unit, Schilling, Clemens, et al. His career ERA: 4.25, This season ERA: 4.25. A little high, for sure, but nothing outside the realm of realistic stat swings from year to year. This season isn't done yet, so he could very well be right at his career number at the end of the season His strikeout totals: 1998: 158, 1999: 161, 200: 212, 2001: 201, 2002: 149, this season: on pace for about 170. Actually better than last year. His record is worse, but that could be attributed to many, many things. All his other numbers are right on track based on his career averages. I can't say whether he gives a crap every time he's out there or not, but his actual performance is not any worse or better than should have been expected.

Regardless of what the specifics are in the aforementioned new law, I can't believe that politicians consider that anywhere near the top 100 list of things to fix in Illinois. As a taxpayer, I have no interest in seeing my tax dollars being used to regulate highway lane usage.

There's something not quite right about having a movie titled "Final Destination...2" Speaking of movies, if anyone asks you to watch the David Cronenberg movie Spider, starring Ralph Fiennes, turn around and run. Run as fast as you can, this is one of the worst movies ever made.

You know, the other day, I saw one of the birthday greeting threads and thought, "How do they know when it's your birthday?" After smashing myself in the head with a hammer, I realized it's in your profile, if you choose to list it. So, I was bored and started going through members' profiles and I realized something. On this board, being 28 years old makes you, well, old. This is a new one for me.

Either you two are dating, or really should be

It will be one of the most unenforceable laws ever. How will a cop prove that you were driving in the left lane and NOT passing someone? Are police cars going to follow you for miles on end? Thank god we don't have any bigger problems to worry about that our politicians can concern themselves with correct highway lane usage. Fix the DMV and clean up the scandals left by your predecessor, jackass.

Screw Phish, I hope they all wind up in jail. Phish

I'm a big fan of Russell's. Next time your in the area, hit Johnnie's Beef or the Alpine Deli, both on North Avenue between Harlem and Thatcher. Very, very good stuff.

I'm coiming in tomorrow at 2. Oh, OK, then stay away from the cabs, unless you want to sit on I-90 for 3 hours. take the Blue Line in, then the Red Line to the game. Take the Blue Line to the Clark Street Stop, walk about 4 blocks east to michigan, then a right about two blocks to the Hyatt. You get on the Red Line at the Washington St. Stop, which I believe is about 1.5 blocks south of Wacker, and 2 blocks west of Michigan at State Street.
-
To get from O'Hare to your hotel, you can either take the Blue Line EL into the Loop, or grab a cab. The cab will be much more expensive, and it will take you much longer if you're talking about Friday. If you're coming in Saturday, then the cab will be quicker. To get from your hotel to the stadium, take the Red Line el train south to 35th. I can't remember where the Hyatt Regency is, so I'm not sure which stop is closest to you.

I have made both your points for weeks and been wrong with both, so i will keep my mouth shut on this one. Know thy enemy. They play in a garbage bag-lined dome and have names like Pierzkjbhjbsljhdglytlyutluj,fv.

The beginning of the end for the Royals? Methinks so. Watch out for them Twinkies though.

Right off the north side of 290, just west of Ye Olde Hillside Mall. You can smell the methane for miles. Isn't that Hillside? Anyways, I shoot straight down Rt. 83 to Roosevelt on my way home, if you are anywhere near there. I'm at Mannheim and Roosevelt. Can ya be here by 5? Are you a waitress at Emilio's? I think I can do it, where ya at?
