  1. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 07:19 PM) Alabama/Utah Sugar Bowl USC/Penn State Rose Bowl Texas/Ohio State Fiesta Bowl Virginia Tech and Cincinnati have to play in the Orange Bowl, so that means no Texas Tech? What a crock of s***. We all get to watch the Buckeyes get destroyed by another more athletic school again. Joy! More athletic huh? You could just say they are playing a better team, not sure about more athletic. PSU is going to get smashed as well. None of those bowls above excite me at all, they all have potential to be serious blowouts.
  2. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 05:16 PM) This playoff system makes the most sense (based on last weeks rankings): #1 Alabama vs. #8 Penn State (Sugar Bowl game on Jan. 2) #2 Oklahoma vs. #7 Texas Tech (Cotton Bowl game on Jan. 2) #3 Texas vs. #6 Utah (Capital One Bowl game on Jan. 1) #4 Florida vs. #5 USC (Rose Bowl game on Jan. 1) This would be followed by: #1 vs. #8 winner vs. #4 vs. #5 winner (Orange Bowl game on Jan. 10; 9 days later than actual schedule) #2 vs. #7 winner vs, #3 vs. #6 winner (Fiesta Bowl game on Jan. 10; 5 days later than actual schedule) Championship Game (Dolphin Stadium on Jan. 18; week later than actual schedule) Utah has no business being in the top 8 IMO. Regardless of their record, they just arent good enough.
  3. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 12:31 PM) that's a load of crap. You don't see impressive victories because you are looking at scores on paper and in restrospect. Alabama pounded the crap out of a top 10 team in Clemson. While Clemson did not have the season everyone expected, they were a talented team. Who's to say that the pounding Alabama gave them didn't cause their slide? No one can say that was or was not the catalyst. Team's seaon can turn for many reasons, injuries, a bad loss they never overcome, suspsensions, etc. Clemson very well may have been overrated, but they still finished 7-5 and Bama absolutely destroyed them on a neutral field. Saying they beat Georgia by 11 points just proves my point you are just making crap up without knowing much. Alabama pummeled Georgia and had a 31-0 lead at the half. You can't tell me that a team won't naturally let up on the gas pedal at that point. Their defense relaxed and Georgia scored a lot in the second half, but that game was NEVER in doubt. On the road, in the SEC, that was as an impressive a win as anyone had all year. How many top 10 wins did the Big 12 teams have on the road? Alabama went on the road to LSU, notoriously one of the toughest places to play and won. Yes they had to go to OT to win, but that game was as intense as any from the beginning. This was Nick Saban's 1st return to Baton Rouge and that game was marked on LSU's schedule a long time ago. Winning that game would have made LSU's season and they played like it. Yes, Alabama got a break because the SEC wasn't as strong as usual. Auburn and Tennessee were much easier wins than expected. A lot went right for Bama this year. But just because they don't score 60 points a game doesn't mean they are not a great team. To label them as not very good because they don't run up scores or because they didn't have sexy wins is assinine. They did not beat Florida, but played better than most people thought they would. I have a lot of respect for Florida, they are very well coached. They did things in the game yesterday that were obviously due to good scouting. Give them credit. But Alabama very much deserved to be in that game and could have won it with a break or two. Thats alot of work. Even though I didnt get the spread right, Florida won as they should have. They are a better team than Alabama, and showed it.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) Yep, it's about time Mullens showed some flashes of dominance. Also, I can't thank you enough for the clubtrillion blog. Good, Im glad someone is reading it, those kids are hilarious. Im hoping Mullens is finally someone who will stay another year. He needs it.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) Furcal would be a tremendous acquisition. I'd be thrilled if we got him. I'd offer him 3 years 34-36 million with an option year at 12 mill. It would be more than enough to get him signed. 3 years 36 mil with an option for 4 which makes it 50. Its up to his agent to accept.
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 6, 2008 -> 11:31 PM) I wouldn't go that far. Oklahoma is the best team in the country right now, and they deserve to play Florida in the title game at this point, but Texas still has a very legitimate beef that they weren't playing tonight. I agree with the comments on the OU offense, I've never seen any offense on a roll like they are. I don't see how Florida will be able to keep up with them for 60 full minutes, that game could be similar to OU's game against Oklahoma State last week IMO. Maybe so, but Oklahoma looks like the best team in the country right now.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 6, 2008 -> 04:53 PM) ND with a pretty weak effort against Ohio St, even though Evan Turner is turning into a superstar. Luke Harangody is one of the best offensive players in the country...and far and away the worst defensive player in the country. He made B.J. Mullens look efficient on the offensive end. Well, to be honest, Mullens is one of the more highly regarded freshman in the country, so most likey he just played well. Basically OSU just beat ND, with Evan Turner (from chicago) just dominating.
  8. The Sox are bidding on leadoff hitters as we speak.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 11:24 PM) I would agree. Bobby is pretty damn good. Pitching and defense generally wins titles. I hope we don't ruin both our pitching and defense. I think KW agrees about the pitching. Maybe Gamel+Flowers=A stud SP? Doc?
  10. again for this page http://www.brewerfan.net/ViewPower50.do
  11. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 08:40 PM) I don't like the notion of not acquiring certain talent because of minor league depth, but with Fields supposedly healthy, and the large commitment made to Dayan, using Jenks to acquire a young 3rd baseman might be a waste of resources. Well, Kenny could possibly turn those prospects into something extremely valuable. Just sayin
  12. QUOTE (Cowch @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 08:29 PM) Who do they have other than Escobar? http://www.brewerfan.net/ViewPower50.do
  13. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 08:22 PM) Jenks should not be used to acquire a group of prospects, unless one is elite. Major league starters need to be brought back for Jenks and/or Dye. Gamel would start at 3B in 2009 would he not?
  14. QUOTE (soxpride77 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 08:17 PM) I'd take Gwynn Jr. in a heartbeat, they have not been able to use him enough because of their crowded outfield. For Jenks that would be a horrible trade. Gwynn is a borderline starter. If you trade Jenks you aim for a top prospect or a few MLB guys.
  15. Well. Lead off hitter Young Pitching There is what we can assume
  16. QUOTE (SEALgep @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 04:17 PM) You would ship off our starting SS, making a 1 million a year for the next three years, for one year of BR? That's not a classic spect-for-star deal... One, Alexi proved himself last year that he can play in the MLB at a high level, and two, that would be just dumb. No, I wouldnt, but thats what they would most likely want.
  17. I know there arent alot of OSU fans on here, but I thought I would post a link for this blog http://clubtrillion.blogspot.com/ Its a blog by an OSU bench warmer by the name of Mark Titus, and he goes into some funny stuff about what it means to not play for a college team as well as life on the road. Pretty good stuff.
  18. QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) Why most likely deal Lexi? Lexi's not going anywhere...much less for a possible rent-a-player...and the O's know that as well. What other MI would they want from us? We have a glut of failed prospects (lilli, Nix) and a average at best spect (Getz). If we want another team's star MI, the discussions on their side IMO begin and end with Alexei. Thats what I would ask for if I was the O's. Roberts is a better all around player than Alexei, but Alexei has upside. Classic spect-for-star deal.
  19. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 11:22 AM) Can I still have his sloppy seconds? s***, I'll tag team.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) Similar layout to the Cell though. I went to a couple of Mets games this year, and you could see Citi looming over the outfield wall. It’s absolutely stunning, and Shea looks even crappier beside it. Shea is such a piece of s***. If its possible, it has worse seats and sightlines than Wrigley. The "reserved" fenced in sections in the lower deck are retarded as well.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) I'm just glad I got to see Rickey play a little bit. He was an absolute blast to watch. Outside of Bo, he was easily the best athlete I ever saw play baseball in person.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) I wouldn't even include the word probably in there. Right, edit that out will ya. But people need to realize thats why Roberts wasnt traded last season and probably wont this season. The Cubs offer last season was probably better than the stuff mentioned on here so far this offseason, and the Cubs werent really that close. A similar package that was offered up for Roberts bought the Cubs Rich Harden. The O's undoubtedly would ask for Alexei in any deal for Roberts at which point their conversation is over.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 02:20 PM) The Orioles would surely like a middle infielder as well, and the Sox have a glut of them at this point, even if some or most of them aren't good. One of them would go to Baltimore as well. The O's would most likely counter with a Alexei+Poreda offer which KW would probably decline.
