QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 09:36 PM) Bobby Abreu is no where near a $16M-$18M player. He's looking at 3 years, $13M and that's probably tops. Problem is he's a joke in the field and isn't exactly what you're looking for in a DH (probably a ~.800 OPS and no speed once 2010 rolls around) especially at 36 years old. I think he signs for 2 years 18 mil with an option.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) No idea, but I've thought for weeks now we're the mysterious team that it's on Furcal. However, we have a huge glaring hole in the starting rotation now. Yes there is, I think that will be filled via trade although there should be someone else brought in to compete. Also there will be a leadoff spot available, and i think some money will be thrown at that. Of course with these spects KW has been stock piling, the O's may be interested in moving Roberts for a few of them, although I havent heard anything of the sort.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) Gilmore was a first round pick in 07 and has put up very good numbers in the minors plus he's supposed to have all the tools necessary of a gold glove 3rd baseman. What isn't to like. Because that isnt entirely true, he has been a subpar defender so far (sub .900 FPCT). He was graded by Sickels as C+ spect. I think Morton has the higher ceiling.
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:20 PM) I'd take Santos and Gilmore over Morton, but if we could get Morton and Gilmore, talk about high way robbery. Also, if the second player we were including was anyone major, we'd have heard rumors. Gilmore isnt all that great, Morton is a much better prize.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:33 PM) I use Mach 3. I think its better than the Mach Turbo. (I own them both.) I used to get bad razor burn but ive found if you rub your face with hot water, use shaving cream and keep the blade new/clean it will help it. Thats pretty basic, best to shave in the shower or right out of it when your skin is still soft. For those with sensitive skin you might want to try Aveda shaving cream.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:13 PM) That would be insane, but then I would doubt Logan as the second player. I can't see how they'd be able to deal Thornton with Jenks available, but maybe Dotel or something? Anyway, that is a f***ing ton for Javy Vazquez. A f***ing TON. Something is fishy here. It looks like Morton might be a question mark and changed out with Santos Rodriguez. Nothing set in stone yet, but thats still a damn good haul.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:10 PM) and that Beckham dude who isn't that far away. And Beck can play SS, and Lilli plays a plus SS as well, and also a good CF.

I'm still hearing Morton, although those two are on the "list". KW wants a starter in return as well. BTW, our vacant 2B spot has an open competition between Lilli, Getz and Nix. Pretty good talent there.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:03 PM) WTG Buckeyes. /Runs and takes a shower for feeling dirty Ha, it helped a Cane decided to thug it up. But still a good road win for a young buckeyes team. Even Turner just took over the game after the team shot in the 20's in the first half. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:19 PM) Miami must have watched the Wisconsin- VTech game and decided they want to learn how to let opponents back into games just like Wisconsin does. OSU also started actually making shots which helps. -
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:12 PM) I hope but the "experts" (Rogers and Rosenthal) says the Sox are trimming payroll. Maybe I am misinterpreting this as next year's payroll is going to be significantly smaller when really it's that we are freeing money to go after players. Every team is trimming payroll including the yanks, but we arent going to drop ours to 60 million, you can bet on that.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:09 PM) The question I have is who Vaz's money turns into? Hopefully it's like the C-Lee/Pods deal where we got a couple of extra pieces with the $$. Unfortunately, I think the money sits and gets wasted. The money saved on Swish and Javy is not going to sit and be wasted.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:58 PM) Interesting deal. It really makes me feel like another deal is about to be done, bringing another starter into the rotation. The question is will it be a big trade or a scrap heap reclaimation like Colon or Garcia for example. The middle infield is now awful crowded, unless they are making Lillbridge into a CF. We are also accumulating a respectable minor league system, which means trader Kenny is about to go after someone, I think. Garcia isnt coming here, and I dont think Colon is either. I would say there is an arm coming via trade to compete and another more pricey arm in a 3 year deal for 8-9 mil.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:56 PM) in my baseball world, I'll take Vazquez over Clayton Richard Who wouldnt? Of course I will take the money saved on Javy and sign a pitcher that can put up similar numbers and still have money to spare to sign other pieces.

Awful refs here in the early going, doesnt help the bucks cant shoot. At least the whole team wont go pro like last time we got good recruits. -
QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:44 PM) guy at WSI said he heard chip caray on atlanta radio say taht it will be javy and logan for lillibridge flowers and morton... AH, so maybe it has been reported from someone other than my source. Just remember who posted it first.....

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:36 PM) You hear this from a contact? Yes, and I just heard Rosey confirm it on CSN. Still just a name thrown out, but a possibility.

Morton may be the last player

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:10 PM) Any confirmation on the prospects? I was out for the last hour. Flowers and Lilli+another. Some are saying minor league arm, I've even heard a major league arm.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:10 PM) I split the entire thing and plan on resplitting it so that there is a closed thread with pretrade discussion and than a thread which starts from when the trade was first reported because I want to be able to jump straight into discussion based upon a finalized/near finalized deal. So the thread has been Gage'd a few times?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:08 PM) The interesting thing is many believe the middle tier players will be the ones squeezed due to the economy. KW may be able to get multiple bargains for multiple years if he's able to wait it out. Right, many believe Abreu, for instance, will be lucky to get 8 mil a year. The top guys like CC, Tex etc will still get huge contracts, but the second tier guys will not be getting overpaid.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:07 PM) No thanks on Garland. He's not that good. Average pitcher without a pitch that gets hitters out constantly. He's expected to accept arb from LAAAAAA

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:04 PM) Uribe $4.5 million Crede $5.5 million Cabrera $9 million Vazquez $11.5 million Hall $2 million Swisher $5.5 million That's a lot of cash off the books. While they said payroll will be lower in 2009, it can't be THAT much lower. Something big is going to happen. I would add Dye's salary in there as well.
