  1. I'd like to DL Thome and bring up Fields to DH, see if he just needs some major league time to refocus, plus it adds some athleticism to the lineup.
  2. Honestly, Walker should be showing the guys video of Chipper Jones approach to hitting. He is absolutely just taking what the pitcher gives him to the tune of .400+ BA
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) Cubs obviously don't have much confidence in Pie. First Reed Johnson and now another old bum who's best days are well behind him. Cubs fans really thought Johnson was going to keep up the .300+ BA and .400+ OBP
  4. Dammit Bearsox, quit your b****ing in the palehose forum and update this s***!!! Logan is raking
  5. LOGAN JOHNSON again. Man I love that little s***.
  6. Lose one night, its the pitching, next night its the offense. Maybe you guys should blame it on the air quality or something that works both ways.
  7. OSU lands the #1 receiver out of Michigan, and the #3 overall prospect in the state in James Jackson and his 4.31 40. That makes the top receiver in ohio and Michigan in next years class.
  8. Posts in game threads. Its like having a hundred drama queen girlfriends fret over a broken nail.
  9. Garland wouldnt be worth s*** if it wasnt for Ozzie, he may have been stuck in minor league ball. Re-reading the article, it looks like quotes taken out of context to make Ozzie look bad. All the players say they tune out his rants because he does it to take the focus off of them. Garland wasnt saying it in a negative way at all.
  10. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 13, 2008 -> 09:55 AM) Mark's velocity is a problem again, just like it was in '06. If he can hit 88-90 consistently, he's in good shape. If he's throwing 85-87, there isn't enough of a difference between his fastball and his change to keep hitters off balance. And if his command is off with a mid-80's fastball, he's going to get hit hard. The speed of his fastball has zero to do with his effectiveness.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 13, 2008 -> 07:38 AM) This defense Buehrle has been getting reminds me of the  defense Danks was getting around this time last year. Also he really had no business pitching to Vlad, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Buehrle being off. Just walk Vlad. No idea what the hell that was all about. Ah, I had zero thoughts of him pitching around Vlad, he seemed to handled him ok in the past, but he hung a cutter a little more over the plate than he wanted and Vlad made an excellent swing on it. Even so, he still could have recovered and kept us in the game, but the Angels dinked him then capitalized on it. I think the first 6 runs or so were off little infield hits or dribblers through the hole, its frustrating.
  12. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 13, 2008 -> 08:38 AM) It was cool to see some of the progressions. Many of the buildings we pass by are famous in engineering and architecture circles, but just another building on the block. I watch a bit of WTTW as well when they have chicago shows and its neat to find some of those hidden gems. For example, in one of the hotter areas of the city to live, the south loop, there is an entire row of buildings that are stamped with auto manufacturers names, it used to be the chicago "motor row" but people just eat and live in them without knowing. Same with some of the really old buildings in the gold coast, there is even a pre-fire piece of street that is made of wooden bricks like they used to make our streets out of.
  13. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 13, 2008 -> 08:16 AM) My best friend from HS and college is an architect. We didn't take a guided, packaged tour. It was more research and going to look. Spent most of the time walking. Best way to see and hear about it IMO. You get some deeper insight into the actual construction of some of the buildings.
  14. QUOTE (soxfaninpa @ May 12, 2008 -> 07:31 PM) Brad is hitting .291, with 12 home runs and 36 RBI's in 127 AB's, with an OPB of .348, and a SLG of .656 for an OPS of just over 1. Too bad he doesn't walk much and couldn't be a Jack Cust type. His MLB batting average is .199 in 200 career at bats, but it looks as if he may have been injured for parts of the last two seasons. I'm curious what he could do with another shot in the big leagues... I assumed when you said tearing it up, that he was actually tearing it up. AAA OBP and BA like that doesnt bode well for a promotion.
  15. Logan Johnson 36 hits in 33 games. Sexy.
  16. I dont understand where this loss of velocity thing came from, I havent noticed that at all this season. I've noticed that when he gives up little hits the next batters have gotten hanging changeups or rolling cutters which have been crushed. Thats what ive noticed. Wass just has zero control.
  17. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 13, 2008 -> 05:40 AM) I remember a person was calling me out for being worried about Buehrle and his big drop in velocity (did he even hit above 86 last night?)... Well, I'm smarter than you He was at 89 a few times. It wasnt his velocity, it was him hanging breaking pitches out over the plate, and the Angels dinking in little infield hits and rolling them through the hole.
  18. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ May 12, 2008 -> 08:24 AM) This is just getting under way. 155 N Wacker. It's pretty cool walking past it every day and seeing the progress. From the demo to the finished product. I saw the UBS tower from demo to finish too....pretty cool stuff. Right across the street from me basically. Im in 123 N wacker. And to couple on to Steve's comment about taking a tour. I think the guided tours are kinda lame, but ive had the pleasure of taking a boat cruise around with engineers from a chicago developer and some of the facts of the city are awesome. Like there is a cow path through a building in the loop, how about how Boeing's building is cantilevered over the river and train tracks. BEST. CITY. EVER
  19. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 9, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) funny, i just asked that same thing in the al central thread. I can't tell if he's slumping or just overrated, but BBTN did a pretty comparison of his stance and swing, how it's changed this season. He's had a bad season prior. Maybe he was a one trick pony? Who knows.
  20. You can clearly see the age in Thome's swing. His power zone used to be to left center and he used to lace deadly liners to left field, now he's pretty much a pull hitter and is overpowered by some fastballs. I wouldnt mind shopping him at all. I actually liked the lineup better when he wasnt in it. I would also be shopping Dotel to the Brew Crew as a closer right now to see if we can snag a better 2B.
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 6, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) Guillen replaced Mackowiak with Anderson in the top of the 8th of Buehrle's no hitter last April. Not exactly the 9th inning was it?
  22. QUOTE (Wanne @ May 6, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) Maybe so...and I'm sure it's in the scouting report...but it's not like you're protecting a one run lead or anything. And how often does he actually do it? If that was the case...I didn't like that alignment. He was protecting against a hit, which was the correct play.
  23. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 6, 2008 -> 09:52 PM) No however I was making a point about a few latin (born) players on our team and how they're, basically, stupid. God, I can't recall how many times Rongey and Boers have called Uribe an idiot, stupid, etc. And the national feelings toward Ozzie Guillen are, well, not great. And your point is moronic. Its a very widespread opinion that Ozzie has a great baseball mind and has been like a coach on the field since his early playing days, its actually one of the reasons he was as good as he was without the physical tools of most major league players. Regardless of any race comment, its just not a good comment.
  24. QUOTE (Carlo Paz @ May 6, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) Maybe, maybe not (Anderson is at least 2 steps quicker than Swisher). That's not the issue. If you know that the pitcher has a no hitter and you're up by six runs, HOW CAN YOU JUSTIFY NOT PUTTING YOUR BEST DEFENSE ON THE FIELD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because its a baseball no-no to change the defense when theres a no-hitter in the 9th like that. You just dont change the team on the field. Pretty basic baseball concept.
  25. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 6, 2008 -> 08:37 PM) Quentin is an american born citizen, who attended american schools. I was obviously referring to players FROM latin countries. Cabrera, I excluded him from another post, although I haven't seen enough of him to make that decision. My main beef is with Uribe, Ozzie and Pablo, none of which are naturally from the US. Stop turning this s*** into a racist comment, those 3 people are idiots when it comes to baseball. Some could argue for Ozzie, but I sure wouldn't, and from a LOT of people's posts I've seen around here, a lot of people think Ozzie is a moron. stop, just stop you are really showing that you dont know much about the subject.
