He should be the Sox starting RF'er for many years. He will be a beast for us. With him hitting behind AJ, it gives our lineup 100 percent better production.

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 11:42 PM) At Lottie's(KU Bar in Bucktown) sweating like a greased pig before the National Championship game. I had tickets to the game also, priorities I guess. Go Sox Nice, great place.

Buehrle (0-0) vs. Verlander (0-0)- KEEP IT UP!!
RockRaines replied to TitoMB345's topic in 2008 Season in Review
Man, I hope Crede keeps proving me wrong, its great to see. And Quentin in the lineup really makes it 100 percent more dangerous. -
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 11:14 AM) Willis had some positives. He only gave up 1 hit. His walks were ridiculous and 0 strikeouts have to be a concern, but he has something to work with. I just don't think the Tigers can win if they can't do anything about their bullpen. You cannot win today with a bad bullpen. Im sure he would have given up more hits if the ball was near the strike zone though.

QUOTE(Kenny Hates Prospects @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 08:15 AM) 1. His career MLB numbers 2. His loss of velocity out of the stretch 3. His slow delivery and weak pick-off move 4. His tendency to sort of lunge forward off the mound instead of staying back which hurts his location 5. His inability to consistently throw his curve for strikes 6. The fact that his change often disappears entirely for stretches 7. The ease with which he turns into a one-pitch pitcher 8. The fact that the Sox play in a hitters park which is brutal on mediocre to bad flyball pitchers, especially in the summer 9. The fact that he's never even pitched 180 innings in a season, much less 200 10. That he's out of options so the Sox can't send him down without putting him on waivers, which means they are likely to allow him to suck for a considerable length of time before pulling the plug 11. His lack of mound presence and documented confidence issues I honestly havent laughed so hard in a long time. Are you comparing him to a pitcher on xbox? A robot perhaps?

Gavin "Pretty Boy" Floyd vs. D-Train, Going for three!
RockRaines replied to TitoMB345's topic in 2008 Season in Review
QUOTE(joesaiditstrue @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 02:25 AM) simply put, if gavin doesn't fall behind every single batter like he did all spring training, he should be fine and allow our hitters a chance to win the game he can't be all over the place, throwing his curve ball 5 feet in front of home plate, or throwing the ball to the back stop, or missing the strikezone completely with his (90mph) fastball seriously, just throw strikes gavin. So, basically you dont like Gavin? His fastball is not 90 mph. -
Hilarious conversation I just had with cubs fans on the EL. "The Sox are going to be terrible this year, they are so old, Konerko, Thome and Dye are declining with age and they areonly going to get worse." me: "Well thats why the Cubs may be bad, all of your players are getting over 30, what about DLEE's age?" "Lee is still young, he will probably get better this year." me: "Lee is older than Konerko" "Oh"

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 11:06 AM) During a spring training game thread, you went out of your way to praise Fields for hitting a grounder to first that advanced a runner, and you were right. Now you think there is no difference between a strikeout and any other out? Nothing like comparing situational at bats vs generic outs. Keep it up, proves exactly no point whatsoever. Some of the best hitters in the MLB are high strikeout guys, including this division. Sizemore, Granderson, Thome. There is a time for situational hitting and just plain hitting. When its not a situation where you need a grounder or a SAC fly (which doesnt count as an out to the hitter btw) a strikeout is the same as any other out. There are times when groundouts are worse, and times where flyouts are worse and of course k's too. Those are SITUATIONS and each has a positive and negative outcome depending on the out. But yeah, lets keep comparing the two, because its better to make no sense than not post at all.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) Next time the bases are loaded an one is out and someone strikes out, remember it is no worse than a flyball to LF. But better than a ground ball dp. Love apples and oranges!!!

QUOTE(G&T @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 10:25 AM) I wouldn't be surprised if he's finally facing pitchers that aren't in spring training working on throwing strikes rather than getting guys out. He could also be a slow starter. I wasn't a fan of Crede starting at 3rd this season, but a healthy Crede is better than Fields right now. Huh? Finally facing minor league pitching making him worse? And you dont know who is better right now since Josh is in AAA. There is no debate unless they are both up facing major league pitching.

God, I hope we didnt ruin Josh by sending him down.

QUOTE(lostfan @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 08:31 PM) Agreed, Bobby used to be brought up as a starter before he failed at that, so he has 4 pitches. It's not a big deal if his fastball is missing a couple mph if his control is still there. He has more than 4 pitches. And he throws them ALL for strikes. He has mid-90's ability right now if he unleashed it, he was hitting 94 on gameday IIRC, but its his other stuff thats nasty. When I watched him this afternoon, it appears he either learned a splitty or its just a different change.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 07:39 PM) In 2004 he was rated #76 between Bubba Nelson (#75 - Braves) and Andrew Sisco (#77 - Cubs). That's the only appearance he made on the BA top 100 list. Crazy right? I remember researching it last season.

QUOTE(Hatchetman @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 06:40 AM) thanks. guy should have been the #4 prospect in all of baseball. He was never ranked highly overall.

QUOTE(joesaiditstrue @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 03:32 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?g...gameday#gameday 9th inning, at the center/bottom of the screen, there's a video link to the dye catch with a slow-motion replay of it If it dropped that would've been yet another miracle swing and hit for the Tigs this game. IROID still has his eyes closed after that double to RF.
-
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 03:32 PM) Ozzie really needs to use better defesne in the 9th inning. Nice game. BA shouldve subbed and CQ should have been in RF with Swish in LF.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 04:11 PM) It's all about the 3-5 in the rotation for this team. We're going to hit and our pen is going to be good, we need the 3-5 in the rotation to be at least some what dependable. Floyd is going to be extremely pivotal for us. Danks needs to keep it at a high level and his ERA around 4 and Floyd needs to go Garland-esque for us to compete.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) Detoilet looking like crap .... their BP is gonna kill them all year....welcome to our world from last year, bastages 7 out of their 9 starters are on the wrong side of 30, bullpen sucks, starting pitching is suspect. Yup sounds like 2007 Sox. I hope their record dips to that level too.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 08:55 AM) I don' think Ozzie is under any delusions that Jerry is some kind of god... I think he likes him because of the balance he brings to the line up. I think he feels the way Soxtalk felt about 1.5 years ago about Owens, he COULD be a good leadoff man for the Sox, of course he isnt there yet.

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 07:57 PM) Koufos is most likely gone. We'll see. I think he should stay, but he has a good value for whatever reason. If he stays he and Mullen will be a matchup nightmare. -
QUOTE(iamshack @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 08:13 PM) I dunno, man. His stock has been dropping like an anvil. He was also 20 and in the majors. He'll come around. He's nasty. Between Cueto, VOlquez and Bailey, they have a REALLY good young pitching core.

Wooo! last Big Ten team standing finishes off with a win. NIT CHAMPS!! (ugh) At least the sophs and frosh got some well needed experience. Turner, Buford, Crater and Mullens are going to be deadly next year, and Koufos if he comes back. Lauderdale may be a bigger piece than first thought as well. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 07:11 PM) And if anyone goes down, they still have Homer Bailey still down at AAA trying to develop right? (Man, just like a lot of pitching prospects, there's a guy they held on to one year too long).. Yes, the 21 year old is still at AAA. He may end up being the nastiest of them all if he pans out.
