  1. How freaking good does this trade look after watching Danks pitch several games against top teams in the MLB?
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ May 10, 2007 -> 10:55 AM) I actually agree with Ozzie that Sweeney could use one more season in AAA in order to gain some strength. However, he's still a better option in LF than Mackowiak/Ozuna. It doesn't matter what we say though....once Pods is back, it's his job. I think Ryan will develop power eventually, but I still think he looks like a #2 hitter to me. High OBP, tons of contact, sees alot of pitches, good speed. He kinda reminds me of Jeter putting fastballs oppo and pulls breaking balls.
  3. To take this thread in a different direction: How freakin good does sweeney look? I mean, we have a top prospect who looks like he knows what the hell he is doing at the plate. Patience, hitting to both fields, making contact. You wouldnt know that he came up in our system if you saw him play.
  4. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ May 10, 2007 -> 09:11 AM) Yeah and I would imagine Capital Grill is around that price?? Probably a bit under the mortons/chop house price level, but still pricey. The positive is that each and everything you eat at those places tastes awesome.
  5. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 9, 2007 -> 10:37 PM) nice to see Gio with a nice rebound... The kid obviously knows what he is doing at the AA level. I want to see him tested at AAA.
  6. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ May 9, 2007 -> 10:46 PM) I also opted for the meat loaf, excellent choice...I couldnt justify a 30 dollar steak whether it was my birthday or not. Come downtown and spring 65 dollars for a steak, then wonder where all the money went.
  7. Sweeney is ready for this level. He is that good. He needs to keep producing and make them keep him here.
  8. His two different curves are both nasty Danks hitting into the 90's pretty good
  9. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 9, 2007 -> 08:48 PM) Sorry Hawk, MacDougal wasnt the victim of bad luck last night. He got rocked. truth.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ May 9, 2007 -> 08:47 PM) Too hard to tell....getting a lot of broken bat hits, but we're also having more focused at-bats. Still 9 outs to go in this game. we are seeing alot of pitches, well everyone but JD that is.
  11. QUOTE(Brian @ May 4, 2007 -> 06:35 PM) Good choices. I'd throw Mandy Moore's name in the hat for me. Alba, and lots of it.
  12. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ May 9, 2007 -> 09:48 AM) Champps' food is awful. try the nachos. Awesome.
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 9, 2007 -> 08:26 AM) I went to Claim Jumpers over the weekend. The meatloaf was awesome. Their bar is pretty good as well. I will have to try capital grill. Capital is pretty awesome, I also love Rock Bottom for the pretzels. Down the street is the real prizes IMO, like Champps, and Hacienda.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ May 9, 2007 -> 09:00 AM) While he did look good against Cuddyer (who's clearly not 100 pct and should have been pitched to in the 8th instead of Hunter), I don't think even the most optimistic of Sox fans liked his chances against Morneau. Masset's 93 mph inside fastball in that situation was not a good call, especially after Morneau was looking in after looking bad on an inside slider. Well the fastball was up and out over the plate. There are maybe 5 guys I walk in that situation and a scuffling Morneau isnt one of them. If first base is open, then I walk him, but I dont move the winning run 4 balls away in that situation. Is this loss really that hard to take for everyone? The bullpen WILL blow some games, in fact maybe over 10-15 will be blown by the pen. It will happen, deal with it.
  15. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 9, 2007 -> 08:53 AM) So if you had Konkero or Dye of 2006 up to bat, and you had say Pods up behind them. You would pitch to Kong or Dye and not pitch to Pods. With Masset on the mound, putting the winning run 4 balls away? I pitch to konerko or Dye. The way Nick sat down Cuddyer, im sure alot of people on here thought he would also sit down Morneau, he just turned on a fastball that wasnt a horrible pitch.
  16. The lineup was actually pretty good offensively last night. Stringing together hits, scrapping for contact. If the pen didnt implode we win. Its as simple as that. It happens, its baseball.
  17. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ May 9, 2007 -> 08:51 AM) Yes. If he can play 5 out of 7, then I say keep him up here. Send Terrero down, and let Mack and Ozuna be the 4th and 5th OF's. Although, one caveat - can Sweeney play CF defensively? I didn't see his one game out there so far, and haven't watched him play there in AAA. Is he soild enough to be a backup there once a week? He can play CF, but most likely it will not be his position in the future. Terrero probably is a little better.
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 9, 2007 -> 08:49 AM) The managerial decision to pitch to Morneau the reigning MVP was stupid, with crappy hitting Cirillo. Here is my goats of the game. Gooch not fielding that play late in the game was a big goat of the game. The sox offense not hitting again(thank god for another AL Central pitch boo boo helping us to score 3 runs) AArdsma double clutching and not throwing out the lead runner on the bunt. Hell he should of caught that bunt in the air. MacDougal getting into hitter counts, in fact the entire relief core pitching away from contact. You flat out dont load the bases there with the winning run waiting to be walked in. You just dont. That would be putting your player in a position to fail miserably. Especially with a young arm who doesnt always have pinpoint control. If he walks in that run, you blame ozzie for walking Morneau.
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2007 -> 07:00 AM) OK now that is just hilarious. It wasn't too long ago that everyone would have been screaming because Ozzie didn't take Vaz out after the 5th inning, now he is supposed to let him go over 110 pitches? LMAO. Soxtalk logic: If a specific player gets beat, its Ozzie's fault. QUOTE(chisox72 @ May 9, 2007 -> 06:58 AM) I am with you on this one. He should have been let to start the 8th at least. He was dealing. This whole loss was a f***ing joke, and I am trying to get myself used to a season of them. There is no reason in the world we had to use EVERY bullpen pitcher we have, save for a few, in this game. Between poor managerial decisions and inept execution, this game was a clusterf*** from the 8th on. He wouldnt have had to use so many pitchers if they had been effective. I wonder if the Twins fans think that Gardy used too many arms in that win?
  20. Wow, this loss was Ozzie's fault? I coulda sworn it was the bullpen. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 9, 2007 -> 08:33 AM) This makes no sense. So the kid who has been giving us quality ABs and has shown more plate presence than anyone on our .207 light hitting attack. We send him down, keep crappy Terrero. How about getting a clue, while prancer is out actually seeing what you have in this kid. So when Thome comes up its back to the crappy Mack/Ozuna no defense no hitting platoon. Hes right though, If Sweeney isnt going to play everyday up here, its more beneficial to have him play everyday at AAA. Its the correct decision.
  21. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 8, 2007 -> 09:07 PM) While all of that is true, Brian Anderson isn't in any danger (at this point in time) of taking Sweeney's job. Podsednik, OTOH, is. It's a question that needs to start to be asked -- is Sweeney a better baseball player right now than Podsednik? Considering Pods pretty much won't be 100% for the rest of the season -- Ozzie pretty much admitted as much -- is there any facet of the game that he's better than Sweeney at? PODS at this point isnt better at much. Ryan has been walking at a decent clip (at least seen some pitches), has shown about the same speed as PODS and is head and shoulders better in the field. If Ryan continues to hit 250-275, he is a more valuable player.
