  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) Do the Rockies? They have a few lefty relievers to spare. They have Barmes, Quintanilla, Wilson, Carroll, Gonzalez. Barmes and Gonzalez look to be the only decent ones, so I would say yes.
  2. I wonder who needs a middle infielder right now. I know the Marlins are looking for one, who else?
  3. The AZ boards seem to think another trade is coming.
  4. This does make me think that KW may have the thought the someone wants a possible young starting middle infielder, and maybe he can pry a sweet reliever for Cintron. Just a thought.
  5. QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 10:58 AM) I'd still take Borchard and Gload. hahahahahahaaha!!!! I had a good laugh with this one.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) It's real simple...the Sox don't have any true backups that can play a solid SS. Ozuna can play there, but he's not exactly a wizard in the field. Also, I think Mackowiak's going to get a lot of playing time in the outfield this season. Exactly. Also, I feel more comfortable with Cintron filling in for Iguchi as well. We now have 3 bench player who can fill in on the entire field. Thats what you look for in bench players. Baj was worthless, straightest fastball I ever saw, pedestrian slider. Great fleecing by KW.
  7. holy s***, what a great trade. Giving up nothing for a good player.
  8. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 10:08 AM) Nor should he be. He's pretty bad. EDIT: Oops. I misread it. Thought you were talking about Borchard. Gload should be a lock. Why should Gload be a lock? The guy had no position on defense. He plays 1B, we already have 2 guys who can play that position. We need a backup OF'er who can play defense. The only option is Borchard.
  9. I love aftermarket cans.
  10. I think everyone is seeing that Owens is not the huge superstar that was portrayed in the offseason. He is still very raw, and needs to learn to adjust to pitchers in AAA.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 05:03 PM) In 5 years, my opinion is that Sweeney has the best chance of being a good player for the White Sox. I'm not sold on Anderson, and I think Owens won't be a starter for the Sox. I'd really like to see Anderson shorten his swing. his swing does appear kinda long. But he is pretty decent at making contact.
  12. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) if the bulls take either of them early in the draft I am done with this team. I felt that way when they drafted Kirk Heinrich
  13. QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 04:44 PM) Sweeney is a mediocore fielder... maybe slightly above average.... he does have a good arm though. Realistically i think it is naive to expect all three of these players to be starters for the white sox. This is not some dream world that all prospects pan out and have good careers. Many players just don't have what it takes to be a major league player... or a full time major league player. I would be shocked if two of anderson, sweeney, owens, start for more than three years in the majors... btw that 33% is still a good ratio for minor leaguers to make it pro and stick. you are right that many top prospects dont pan out. Owens was a nobody prospect, who we aquired for Alex Escobar. He then began to produce. Minor leaguers that produce do make it to the show one way or another. Right now the only two top draft choices that we are talking about are Sweeney and Anderson. The rest of our top picks arent really much of anything at this point. These are guys that are producing, and have produced. Thats why they have a chance to make it. Your 33 percent chance figure makes no sense in this situation. If you want to gauge success rate. Compare these 3 with the number of draft choices since 2003, that is your figure for them.
  14. Man, im glad most people dont count out 21 year olds in sports so easily.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) I've heard a couple people around here say that Anderson's best projects somewhere in the Torii Hunter range offensively, and maybe defensively too. If he can do what he's done in the minors, he'll be at that level. Rowand wasnt even supposed to be a starter, he was basically a fill in player. Anderson was a first pick and has been steadily rising in the minors since he was drafted. The guy is a blue chipper.
  16. QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) I do not see sweeney developing 20-25 homerun power anytime soon. You do not go from hitting one in a full season to hitting that many no matter how f***ed up your wrists are/were. Sure, he has two at this point... but realistically you cannot expect him to keep this up. He is just a mediocore fielder and has mediocore speed/baserunner from mostly everything i have read. While he is a good prospect i do not consider him a lock to make the big leagues... let alone be a start in just two full seasons from now. Jerry owens is a fourth outfielder that cannot play center... don't you want a fourth outfielder to play all three positions... and do it well? I also do not consider it a lock for anderson to outproduce rowands season from last year this year. Yes, i do know how bad rowands season was last year. wow, could you be more negative?? First off, Sweeney is not a mediocre fielder. He is a good fielder with a plus arm. He is expected to produce that much power, and his tinkering of his swing really effected that last year. If you have seen him play, you know why they say he has a major league swing. At age 19 he tore up major league competition in ST. Owens is a 4th OF'er if you have PODS playing there already. he is basically the same type of player, slap hitter, weak arm, tons of speed. The guy has hit very well in the minors and winter ball. He should project as PODS replacement in LF as well as batting lead off. Anderson is a rookie this year, Rowand was a vet. Of course it is somewhat far off to expect him to out produce his stats this year. Of course expecting him to be good on defense, and improve on his offense all year is not out of the question. He is supposed to have better tools than Rowand, so I would expect him to be a better player eventually.
  17. They are both great college players. They will be 3rd tier in the NBA.
  18. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) I think even if he hit .800 with 15 homers this spring, the Sox should send him back to AA and let the kid dominate for a season. This is the one guy I have always liked, even with the lack of power thus far. He can hit and he can throw. I think he will develop decent power. I expect alot of improvement from Sweeney this year. His swing was messed up last season and his wrists were not right. I fully expect him to hit over .300 with around 15-20 hr's
  19. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) Yea I wanted to somehow incorporate both of the logos together so thats what I came up with. When they win again in my lifetime, and yes I did say when, I will continue around the outside with the years. Click on my user name. The pic in my profile should be your next one.
  20. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) Lee homers for the US. 1-0 good guys. man hes good.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) And the beautiful thing about it...it will cost somewhere around $1.5 million. Here's the real question. Owens and Sweeney have great years in AAA this year. Do you risk trading Dye or Podsednik and giving them the job in 07? Save some money to resign Buehrle, that's for sure. Yes, you do. I think trading Pods after this year would yield tremendous results. Lead off men should be at a premium in upcoming years, and PODS is one of the best ones out there. It should at least allow us to replenish some of our minors.
  22. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) I definately think that our 2008 opening day outfield will be: LF Jerry Owens CF Brian Anderson RF Ryan Sweeney You know I agree with you there.
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 03:57 PM) I highly doubt it, but I guess that extra outfielder position is wide open right now. Good to see him hit a few long balls. Looks like that pretty swing has found a little extra power in the offseason. They say his wrists and his constant tinkering with his swing was holding him back. Looks like that is not the case anymore. If I had to choose between Borchard, Gload and Sweeney up, I would choose Borchard. But its nice to see that Dye's replacement is not too far off.
