QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 01:20 PM) Not commuting into Chicago every day anymore, I miss some of the great grease pits in the financial district. Skrine, had it the other day, so good.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 04:06 PM) Last I knew they were still in the idea stages, have they settled on a plan? The plan I saw before i moved had weird express lanes flying over the other interchanges, almost totally covering halsted.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 03:48 PM) i wish the Kennedy expressway could be fixed. i hate the traffic on there so much. Thats the worst, I cannot imagine commuting up north or northwest and coming back into chicago.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 03:37 PM) That is going to be a clusterf*** of epic proportions when it is done... But at the same time it needs to be done worse than any other traffic project in the metro area. It is just a disaster through there. There has got to be a better way to do that. I am not sure its going to improve much based on what I saw, the streets suspended over Greek Town will suck.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 03:19 PM) Vanderbilt had pretty much let it be known that if Franklin left it wouldn't be for money. I'm guessing that's what happened here. He making as much as the best coaches in the country. Crazy. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 01:11 PM) I'm 100% certain that none of that s*** went on during my years there. I can't be 100% certain about now, but I highly doubt it. If there were professors who were willing to do this, then Golson, Daniels, and Grant would have found their way to those professors instead of the ones who turned them in for cheating. Notre Dame cares a tremendous amount that their athletes are treated as much like the rest of the students as possible. There are no athletic dorms--the athletes live in the same dorms as the rest of the students. Outside of season, athletes eat their meals in the dining halls with the rest of the students. There are no classes that are open only to athletes. That's the opposite of what every big time program is doing. They are having special cafés, meal plans, dietitians, lounges etc only for athletes. -

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) I think (hope) it will be worth it in the end. It’ll be nice having that extra lane the entire way. Driving it everyday, I can tell that they’ve actually done quite a bit of work. There were a number of overpasses that they had to tear down and rebuild that they finished surprisingly quick. Admitedly I only drive it to Galena or Madison but why did they have to do the entire stretch at once?

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 12:05 PM) No diet stuff! Let's just talk about indulgent, sugary, fatty, awful for you foods! Lets do both. On my cheat day this weekend I am torn between Johnnies Beef and Five Guys.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 12:29 PM) There's much worse ramifications that could come out of this. Sharp is Sharp. Losing a Toews or Kane would be the real issue (make no mistake, they're the reason we matter now and they're the reason we should matter ten years from now). Yeah, I always thought Saad was kind of the replacement for us for Sharp. Teuvo is killing it as well. Crawford's contract is worse than Bick's IMO.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 12:35 PM) lol @ Purdue... last on and off of the football field. Was also surprised to see Wisconsin on the bottom of the basketball list at 40%. The thing about basketball is if you have 3 players leave for the NBA it makes the percentages look terrible until they finish their degree later on. BBall is a moving target. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 12:01 PM) No, you can't major in that at physical education or anything of the sort at ND. In fact, there are not even any physical education classes that give credits. All freshmen have to complete a physical education class, but no credit is given toward a diploma. Varsity athletes can use their sport as fulfillment of the PE requirement, so athletes actually don't take and phys ed at all. All freshmen enter ND into a unit known as the 'First Year of Studies Program" At the end of your freshman year, you must declare major within one of the four Colleges: Science, Engineering, Business, or Arts & Letters. There may be a few majors in A&L that are less rigorous than most, but every major requires a minimum of two semesters of theology, two semesters of philosophy, one semester of literature-based writing, and one semester of personal experience-based writing. Virtually every class outside of my major (math) had at least one varsity athlete in the class, and I sure as hell didn't have any softball classes. That sucks, I took the maximum number of phys ed classes including: Golf Horseback riding 1 and 2 Tennis Hockey Broomball -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 12:00 PM) To be fair, how many schools would suspend their starting QB for the season for an academic issue that wasn't public knowledge? not many "Big Time Programs" but lots of other schools nobody cares about. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 11:56 AM) I graduated college and I wasnt a famous football player, thats not really an accomplishment given how little you need to do to not fail out of college. ND is a small private school, way easier to control faculty. Thats why the low rates are pathetic. Especially since NFL draftees can come back at any time and finish school for FREE. Basketball is a whole different animal, just pathetic. Pretty good analysis is here: http://stanford.scout.com/2/1273612.html -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 11:45 AM) So you are telling me I can't go to Notre Dame and major in physical education (or some other form of physical fitness)? I find that incredibly hard to believe. Just like every single school in the country that has an athletics program, there are going to be slack classes and majors. I got a 103% in a summer class that was taught by an idiot and his assistant/wife gave us the answers to the questions on the finals THE DAY OF the final prior to taking it. This was at DI FCS U of South Dakota. You don't think those athletes at schools where sports make more money don't get treatment like that? There has to be some way for them to graduate 97 percent of players..... To be honest though, knock them as we will for many things, their APR and grad rate is top notch, only behind NW in terms of D1 programs. Thats pretty awesome. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 11:45 AM) Is your friend a cross fitter. They live and die by that thing. Yeah and frankly his progress is crap, but it makes sense and I already tried something similar this year with lots of protein and veggies. Ill give it a whirl.

Just finished challenge. Definitely can make that difficult or easy depending on your level. Burned myself out at the end but it was a good burn. Plyo later today for a friday kicker.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 10:40 AM) Quite possibly the worst construction project ive ever seen, its right up there with Wacker Drive. The difference here is that its SOOOOO Long, its taking SOOOO Long and it always appears that they are doing no work.

Can we use this as a diet thread as well? I was about to start one particularly because I had a friend convince me to try the Paleo diet for the rest of the month.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 10:17 AM) Have your sources told you this bit or is that educated guess on your part? I know the Sox interest surprised you a bit. Well they are finding money for something, I initially pushed this off as nothing but the prep and group they sent to meet with him changed my mind a bit.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 09:03 AM) CVX is a bear the first time...even with just an 8 pound medicine ball... I did that yesterday because Im doing a pre-weekend double today of challenge+P90X plyo.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 10:13 AM) I don't think the Sox should sign him, at the kind of money being kicked around. 4x20+ or 6x15+, plus $20M posting fee, I think that could really turn out badly. People seem to not notice this, but there is a history there with players and pitchers from Japan. The great majority of them end up succeeding for 1, maybe 1.5 seasons, then fall off a cliff. There are a very few exceptions, but they are just that. Too much risk for me, at that kind of money. The Sox apparently have earmarked some money for him if its in the right arena. They had a budget meeting weeks ago and apparently have had the calculator nerds in there all week.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) There are a lot of alumni of Big 10, PAC 12 teams, along with ND and Vanderbilt, who do care about the academic performance of their teams. Fans of those teams, who never went through the toils of actually getting a degree from one of those schools, tend to care much less, though there are definitely exceptions. APR is important because your teams can actually get penalized and lose scholarships as well as lose postseason play. Turns out graduation rate is a large part -
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) It happens on the I-90 tollway between Elgin and Rockford. They just finally got around to starting construction to add a 3rd lane last summer. They might finally finish it sometime next year. When the weather was decent there were signs saying the trucks should drive in the left lane. Now since the construction is on hold for the winter the trucks just drive in both lanes for no reason at all. The 90 construction ends in 2016.
